The classic quality are the ones who are “always useful.” There are kind of two archetypes– the ones that can adapt their game to whoever is on the floor and then the ones that are so good at one thing that their coaches don’t need to worry about that skill set on the floor (Horry) and only play complements (Rodman).

The closest thing to a Rodman we ahve today is maybe a Drummond or a steven adams with rebounding. But, realistically, he was very unique. The former camp– White, Holiday, Danny Green, Draymond Green are all very, very capable in their own rights.

Knick fan. Besides Josh of course, Jordan Clarkson rebranded himself last year from microwave scorer off the bench to a glue guy. Became one of my favorite players on the team and it’s how he got his minutes back after being taken out the rotation. Landry Shamet as well, earned himself another longer-term contract from hitting his shots and hustling his on D. He was amazing on the Cav guards in the ECF while only missing 1-2 threes all series.

White might be having starter numbers but his contribution is very much still coming from him being a connector piece, he just had a bad shooting season but he’s still having arguably all NBA levels of impact just by doing the right things off ball and poking holes in the other teams offense. His tape is particularly worth watching IMO as he’s not particularly known for being athletic, it’s all coming from playing intelligently.

Caruso is the ultimate glue guy. Thunder don’t win in 25 without his bursts of energy off the bench in much needed playoffs moments. The other 29 teams would love to have him on the roster even though his numbers aren’t impressive.

Tristian Thompson for the year LeBron won with the cavs. Him and JR smith don’t get nearly enough credit for holding it together after the 2015 finals they were up 2-1 then to lose 3 in a row. Then come back the next year and be down 3-1 it was hard for them to not just say fuck it and give up. Which they did post Durant.

But that 2016 Finals where everything clicked and they beat a team they had no business beating. Look back at the 2016 champ cavs and the 2017 champ warriors. The cavs had fucking Matt Deladova and Thompson among others you never hear from again.

The best glue guys ever were the ones who held that cavs team together as they beat the warriors in a series they had no chance to win. Crazy. Just look at the cavs roster. It makes you laugh to know Lebron won a ship with those guys. Really highlights how much he raised those around him at his peak.
