That doesn’t take away from the fact that his college teammates did a selfless act to try to help him out.
Green being a scumbag is shitty and perhaps didn’t deserve the good deed in retrospect but this story is about his teammates’ sacrifice to help, not his behavior after the fact

It doesn’t take away from the selfless action, but it does make the overall story less inspiring/heartwarming. At least for me.
Are they responsible for what he does the rest of his life? Does that extend to other people they do nice things for? Have you ever done someone a favor and then they did something completely unrelated and shitty, and does that reflect on you at all?
I already said it takes nothing away from the selfless action.
I just personally find it less heartwarming, knowing what happened afterwards.
Not sure how you can argue with my subjective experience of reading this story.
Like, if there was a lovely story about someone teaching a kid to paint, and that kid was Adolf Hitler, would you be like “Awww, what a heartwarming story,” or would you have a weird taste in your mouth knowing that?
There are stories of John Wayne Gacy performing as a clown at a birthday party. I think it’s fair to hear a story about him making heartwarming memories for children, and to feel like it’s less lighthearted now that we know he eventually tortured and murdered people.
These are extreme examples, but can you see what I’m getting at? It doesn’t matter how nice the initial story is, the context tarnishes it for me on a personal level.
If you’re able to overlook that, then good for you. That’s why I said, “for me.”

How am I castigating anyone? I said it put a damper on the story. It goes from being lighthearted and inspiring to more serious and complicated, knowing what he allegedly did.
This is my personal reaction to hearing this - obviously it doesn’t take anything away from the nice thing these guys did, but it does make the experience of reading about it less “fun and heartwarming.”
Edit: Same thing with someone like Kobe. He wasn’t convicted. His alleged actions don’t actually change what he accomplished on the court. But it gives me more complicated feelings when I think about his career.

Billy Donovan was the Bulls coach up until recently, he coached the Thunder as well.
Joakim Noah was the 9th pick in 2007, he was an amazing defender and positional playmaker for the Bulls. He made all-nba 1st team in 2014. He later became an albatross for the Knicks though. Played super physical and threw his body around like he didn’t care, ended up costing him his career.
Corey Brewer was the 7th pick in 2007. He was a solid defensive wing. He’s one of the “he had a 50 point game???” guys. He bounced around a lot as a role player. He won a title on the Mavs and is probably most known for his stints on the Timberwolves.
Donovan was also the coach of the gators from 96-2015.
Noah was such a fun and frustrating NBA player.

I think the onus is on OP for using full names when referring to events that happened 20 years ago, unless it’s obvious players like Magic, Bird, LeBron, etc. There have been many Brewers and Donovans, and even Noahs.
