The thing here (that Stein does not address) isn’t “Mavs prefer a trade over a buyout”, but “Mavs will not buy him out and he will have minutes unless a team offers a trade return”. It is absolutely not impossible that Klay will have minutes in the current roster configuration.

Yeah Caleb Martin will likely exercise his PO next year so they may wait a year to use him as an expiring. Maybe cut Sasser or Biberovic if it comes down to it. Unless Klay asks for a buyout, they might keep his expiring for the mid-season trade window.

No he doesn’t lol. Giannis is way better than anyone on their team by a mile. You listed Lively who can’t even stay healthy. Heat lack of depth is overrated. It’s fine. Ideally would have better shooter and playmaker (which in this scenario Klay would help one of them). Oh and I’ll take Spo over a first time NBA coach.
