Force Denver to release Jokić, Murray or another star.
Prevent it from re-signing its own players.
Remove players from the current roster.
Automatically cost it a current first-round pick.
Stop it from signing minimum players or its draft selections.

Roster construction-wise, you can’t do anything except sign vet mins and re-sign/extend your own players

People cite these rules as major issues but when you look at the Nuggets roster construction these penalties don’t carry that much weight. The roster is more or less set so a mid-level exception availability isn’t really a concern. They also don’t have draft picks to trade. Given the contracts on the roster any incoming trade would be shedding salary rather than trading multiple smaller contracts for a single larger contract. They have flexibility to get out of the 2nd apron following next season, so I don’t think the ³⁄₅ year rule will be too difficult to avoid. It mainly an issue on the willingness of the ownership to pay a heavy tax bill or not.

Roster and trade flexibility can completely shift your season from disaster to salvageable or from “playoff team” to “contender” or even “favorites”. Giving that up is devastating in ways a lot of fans don’t seem to realize

As a fan of NBA basketball, I love what 2nd apron is doing. There’s so much more parity and competition. Long and painful rebuilds are no longer necessary as super-teams are no longer a viable option and with few right moves you can create a contender without a superstar.

Get rid of the 2nd Apron, its clear Silver wants to set teams back 10+ Years.
