Doesn’t really make sense to trade Cam Johnson to keep Watson. Johnson is about to expire and can probably be negotiated to around full MLE next summer as opposed to like \(20-\)25 million for Watson.

Also, Cam Johnson is just better than Watson right now, the only reason Watson is so expensive is because he’s young and could one day be better.

With this news, Watson is getting S&T for sure I think. Maybe they’ll retain him for QO but then he’s gone for sure for nothing next summer which is just bad asset management imo

As a restricted free agent (RFA), my current team has 48 hours to match the offer. 
If they do, I stay. If they don’t, I go.

Second apron has more penalties than just paying more money. The biggest being no salary aggregation. Packaging multiple players together in a trade for a star is forbidden. You also can’t bring back more salary than you send out.

Before this, Denver was just over $3.9 million under the second apron. Matching the offer has put them over the apron, and they still haven’t resigned Watson yet

But once it is signed - it’s done.

If they do that for Zeke they essentially have a dead weight $3.5M on the books the next 4 seasons.
