actual answer: apparently the NFL has a program where they let high schools use versions of NFL logos as long as they pay a small fee to the NFL every year (usually around 100$)

Most NBA players, even role players, from smaller towns like Ft. Smith, Arkansas are incredibly loved. Having grown up in Ft. Smith, I and many other locals would have supported him in any capacity because of the connection.
