I’ll just put this out here as a Bay Area sports fan: Willie Mays was traded to the Mets for his final season, Joe Montana sat on the bench & was traded to the Chiefs after the 49ers became Steve Young’s team. Heck, Barry Bonds was not wanted by the team after his contract expired in 2007.
Bill Walsh once said it’s better to trade a player one year sooner than later. I think Steph didn’t use enough of his leverage around 2024 to either get traded to a contender or get Warriors an impact player, but I wouldn’t blame most of the fanbase for switching to Steph’s next team if that happens anytime soon.

If warriors offered Steph for castle, spurs say yes. That’s a guaranteed chip next year, and favorites the year after. No matter how good your team looks, finals trips are hard, let alone winning it.
Nope, Spurs want to build a long sustainable team that wins regularly, they aren’t a 2 years vision kind of franchise. But if it can help them get rid of that Fox contract and then he takes way less money/shorter term it’s appealing, but not for a young talent, Spurs aren’t desperate like that
I agree that’s their goal but they should not expect to have this core together and injury free for a long time—it may happen but they shouldn’t bank on future success for years at the expense of current success. If there’s one thing we’re seeing in the modern league, it’s that there is a lot of premature granting of championships or even windows that don’t always materialize. They shouldn’t be reckless but they shouldn’t be complacent either.
Is this not effectively what LeBron was offering this summer and the Spurs were completely out on him? The spurs value their culture to a fault, good or bad.
First of all, we don’t really even know if the Spurs themselves were out. If you take all of Rich Paul’s positioning as gospel, then LeBron didn’t have them on the radar because they made the finals.
Wemby, in turn, made at least one comment along the lines of “I’m happy to win the organic way” but that was after the fact it was clear that he wasn’t interested in them.
I think the Spurs take the decision out of his hands if that was on the table regardless of what he says, tbh.

RJ + Quickley matches Steph’s contract. Then we’d have the tax payer MLE to get maybe a Demar or a Draymond if Draymond wants to follow Steph.
