[Highlight] Magic finds Bird for three in Dream Team’s first Olympic game vs Angola.
I don’t know anything about Angola, but Angola is in trouble.
One of my all time favorite chuck quotes lol
On the floor in that clip:
lol, this 5 would sweep to the NBA finals in 92 lol
They’d sweep in 2026
No they wont. They are like 70
Gentleman’s sweep then
Well not with that attitude
You old heads are so delusional
And you young cats didnt see them. It was a much rougher game, this 5 wins 75 in ‘26.
I’d honestly be shocked if they lost more than like 3 or 4 games and probably due to injuries or just crazy shooting nights from the other team
Wait - you don’t think that starting five in 92 form would beat today’s rosters?
They’re not sweeping which is what the original comment said
I mean, they would 100% sweep. I’m a Knicks fan but I’m not delusional. That team sweeps the Knicks. Magic on Brunson, Jordan on Bridges, Bird on Hart, Malone on OG, Robinson on Towns. That’s a Dream Team sweep.
Fair, but I was more reacting to calling it “delusional”.
Taking the five best players from that era should beat any team today. I don’t think they’d beat the peak Warriors necessarily, but there’s no NBA super team today that I could see realistically keeping up with those five in a series.
Feels like kids are just failing to understand how exceptional those dudes were and how their games all translate pretty dang well to today. Though the lack of big man range could certainly be exploited.
Eh, in 92 Bird was mega washed. His back was shredded by that point and he’d have likely been a defensive liability. Hell he had to be talked into playing on the Dream Team.
Bird still got 1 vote for all defensive team that year and 20 votes for all-nba lol
washed bird in 92 was averaging 20/9/6 !!
Washed bird with that help for the other 4 they’d still sweep
Yea Bird was still a strong player for “washed standards.”
washed bird would sign for 30m a year in 2026 lol
he was the highest paid player in 92 with 7m
So a team of just Jordan, Magic, Admiral and Malone wouldn’t sweep the finals?
of course not
you need 5 players and despite the way he looks Robinson technically only counts as one man
Okay, I’d volunteer then, but only if they rep the Celtics.
Think I just vomited in my mouth a little bit
You want them to wear purple & gold or what?
He was shot, but… in 91-92 he still avg 20.2⁄9.6⁄6.8 (basically 20/10/7), on 47/41/93 shooting.
the year before that he still avg 1.8 stl and 1.0 blk, he was tall and smart, that helps a lot.
No he was not mega washed, what is this revisionist nonsense 😂
They would go 15-0/16-0 in basically every year afterwards too lmao
We don’t talk enough about the fact that Magic was basically forced to retire at 31.
He had at least another 5 good years in him.
yea he might’ve won 6-7 rings and could’ve had a legit goat case. hes probably the most underrated player of all time in that he may be a lot closer to jordan/Lebron than we give him credit for.
9 finals in 12 years is crazy
The West was….not great.
In the cocaine 80s where no one took basketball seriously he’d be out of the league with his lack of jumper in today’s game
Ben Simmons made millions literally refusing to shoot .
And where is he now?
He got hurt and couldn’t run or play defense like he used to .
That’s one of the stupidest things ever posted to the internet
Look at his FT% improve over his career and tell me he wouldn’t improve his jumper in today’s league
magic had a good mid range jumper. He just wasn’t a 3pt shooter.
he got smoked by jordan in his last finals….
for magic to win 6-7 he’d have to have beaten the bulls in those 6 ring years, which would never have happened
Lakers could’ve won in 91 if Worthy wasn’t injured
As someone who actually was alive then - (X) Doubt
could’ve happened, and he also couldve beaten hakeem in 94⁄95.
with what team???
worthy was still an all star in 92 and his injury in the 91 finals was significant.
he also couldve beaten hakeem in 94⁄95.
lakers were 33-49 the first year rockets won….
maybe because magic johnson wasn’t playing for them? lol
you think just adding magic to the 33-48 lakers gets them to the finals and beats hakeem?
you’re nuts lol
bro if magic was on the team it’d be totally different with free agents and how they construct the roster.
Lecheater
Hell, even when he came back and played power forward for a bit, he still looked like a top 15 PF in the league
i could see him playing until 2000 as a PF and get another ring if he was healthy. would prolly play like pistons c-webb
That ain’t a compliment 😂
How many other players take a 6+ year break from the NBA and come back as a top 15 player at a different position at age 37+? It’s a huge compliment.
It’s pretty wild that at this point both Magic and Bird were retired
What’s really crazy was HIVE was kind of still viewed as a death sentence then…. instead of something you manage with medication
Heee heeeee!
Lmao worst thing ever 😂😂😂
Or the best thing ever?
Angola’s head coach Victorino Cunha curtly dismissed the U.S. Dream Team’s defensive abilities after their 116–48 loss on July 26, 1992, telling reporters, “You don’t, you only run fast breaks….”,
I wonder if the head coach can figure out what caused those fast breaks before they meet up again
They were the best ever USA basketball team ever, but also faced child’s play level competition. That’s not their fault, but it’s the facts.
Probably also worth pointing out that the dream team was one of the biggest catalysts to the improvements we’ve seen in international basketball since then
They still played against horrible competition.
croatia wasn’t bad, but compared to the teams in 2000s like argentina, spain it was very light. And now its just ridiculously good, like France/Germany/Canada/Serbia/Australia all fielding like nba rotations.
There’s like 18 Canadians solidly on NBA rosters plus like 4-5 more that come and go the last couple of seasons.
At this point Canada has to leave several NBA players at home for tournaments.
canadian guards are actually nuts. Shai/Jamal/NAW. Lot of good nba players. theyre just kinda weaker for bigs.
Hit em with the Hee Hee
Not fair 🤣
The Olympics are so cool, best basketball on earth when it’s on
Dream Team is just unfair. Of course the international competition still hadn’t caught up to what it is today, but that team is still the most overpowered squad ever assembled.
Imagine if they had Shaq instead of Laetner
Tbf while a young Shaq would make it more legendary from name value alone in hindsight, I doubt he’d get much playing time because D-Rob and Ewing were already established stars by this point.
I’m not even being facetious when I say that actually looks exactly like 18⁄19 Ben Simmons leading a fast break. That guy could have been so good.
And that’s bird with a bad back at this point
This is real basketball
Bunch of plumbers and electricians.
Unlikely. Only about 15% of Angola had access to electricity in ‘92. And recent estimates show that about half of Angola currently lacks access to clean water, it’s unlikely that any of those players were also plumbers.
That lob to David would’ve been nice!!
Barkley was also on this legendary squad, whole team was basically an all-star hall of fame roster.
How did Angola manage to make the olympics? You don’t ever hear of them in basketball now
Wow horrible box out by MJ there, just lazy
Could they beat the current 76ers?
I was married to someone who thought Lebron James was a better passer than Magic. She generally knew ball, too.
Am I the only one that watches these old clips and arent impressed? Not just this one but a lot of basketball from the 80’s and 90’s. A lot of dominant hand, pounding the basketball into the wood, eye level dribbling. I remember Jaylen Brown being tortured online because he couldn’t go left and used his right hand a lot. Same fans that killed him will say back in the day players are better and the NBA was better.
You think that Jaylen Brown is a better ball handler than Magic Johnson?
Where did I say that?
We’re done with the 90s
