Victor Wembanyama sharing his wisdom with younger players
First thing you have to learn kids is to grow up to be 7’6”.
And somehow still move like you’re 6’9
Shit I did it wrong. 5ft8 but I move like I’m 8ft
You don’t appreciate how athletic these guys are until you watch a normal 6’4 guy try to play ball. They move like Zach Edey
And also hit half court 3s against the reigning champs in the playoffs
Be sure to jog back afterwards like you just made a routine layup. Very important
Lol
Also “you can’t make it to the NBA finals in socks and sandals my guy”
Boris Diaw managed just fine.
Being 7,6 clearly doesn’t matter. Knicks destroyed that boy.
Being skilled is what players need to understand. Brunson skill level is on another level.
Brunson wasn’t even the best player on his team for 3 of the 5 games but go off I guess
Hakeem son getting knowledge from dad and vic
Seems unfair, right?
The rags to riches story is getting less common in the NBA. There are more and more well-off kids whose parents can afford the best coaching, or have parents who were high level players which gives a long list of advantages.
I mean regardless of who your parents are you’re getting a D1 scholarship at 7’2 if you’re somewhat athletic lol
Yeah but those genes don’t come from nowhere
And what do they come from
You see, when a man and a woman love each other very much…
Yeah you still can’t teach height, but all the other stuff helps
And? Is that some sort of qualification I’m not aware of?
Are you asking if having former NBA player parents really makes someone more likely to make the league?
No I’m asking why it matters if there are fewer rags to riches stories. Where did you get what you asked out of my question? Was it that confusing for you?
Yes, it was a confusing question. The pronoun “that” had no clear antecedent, and the word “qualification” lacked context.
Sounds good next time I’ll be more of a pompous asshat
Is that an ass-shaped hat or a hat for an ass? You’re still not making any sense.
Yes, it was an ambiguous question on top of being kind of weirdly aggressive out of nowhere. Even now after you clarified, I don’t really see how I was supposed to understand that was your actual question.
At least to me it matters because it makes for a better entertainment product when players have diverse life stories, and not a growing chunk of league trivia being stuff like, “guess what, Gary Payton II is the son of Gary Payton”. Also just as an American it’s cooler to see guys break into the scene in their own way instead of the standard, expensive, streamlined AAU circuit.
Tbd that applies to pretty much every sport
And yet Sports is still far more meritocratic than a regular job, where people expect the boss’s child to eventually hold some management position.
In Sports, you get to clown on them if they cant perform and expect them to be kicked. Elsewhere, they can’t get fired and will likely have power over you.
While I agree with you in the general sense, I don’t think that’s it’s entirely comparable to a child of a top athlete also turning out to be a decent to amazing player in the same sport though. Sports is one place where genetics matter a lot, and having the advantage of being trained the right way early on is also huge.
at least he doesn’t have their size, he’s been nerfed already
TIL dream has a son going into his senior year of HS in Houston
Kids these days. What do they eat? None look short next to Wemby
I mean they’re basketball players lol
so are the other guys that he makes look short
Yeah the average height is 6’6 and he still towers over all but a handful of players basically
And one is named olajuwon, he was destined to be tall.
And a Center
God, Finally I can relate physically with one of these.
That camera man is a spitting image of me
Malik Olajuwon is gonna end up coaching Bam and Aja’s kid… mark my words
I always wanted Juwan Howard to name one of his 6 kids Olajuwan Howard.
Why his waist snatched
“Never ever pass the ball to your teammate’s back. Also, never tell a player you’re in their head.”
The “in your head” thing is so dumb, but internet gonna be that way.
Mitchel Robinson was just unplayable in the finals, but because the Spurs lost to the Knicks, people who just watch highlights try to pull an uno reverse.
Mike Brown couldn’t get Robinson off the floor fast enough in those games.
Outcome-based retroactive thinking. People are dumb
Brunson was ranked the 2nd best player in the world after the Finals. This sub never fails to overreact
KAT absolutely deserved Finals MVP. His ability to handle Wemby on both ends without constantly needing help is what gave the Knicks a window to win. Brunson’s late-game heroics would’ve been pointless had those games not be tied in the final minutes.
For context, here’s how Wemby shot against each opponent in the playoffs:
The Knicks completely blunted the sharpest knife in the playoffs, and with all due respect, I suspect Brunson was the least responsible for that
I will always appreciate his thoughtfulness. He’s thorough with his words
Wemby looks a whole foot taller than that dude! Really hope Edey stays healthy
Foot surgery this young is already a concern. He needs to take it easy
Having these guys stand next to each other makes em all look like they’re as tall as the average Joe.
imagine if wemby pulls out the dream shake or gets even better at defense
can’t wait for the season to begin
I’d say he’s a student and The Dream is dropping the wisdom.
I like how they got to other kids closer so it wasn’t like he was just talking to that one dude.
No way the other kid is 7’2”.
He’s tall but Wemby is taller by a lot more than 4”
Thought the same thing, but Hakeem is 7’0. Camera angle isn’t great but compare him to Hakeem. (He’s also wearing flat shoes)
https://i.imgur.com/ynkcuRN.jpeg
Hakeem has likely shrunken since his playing days
That dude is 7’2?? And Wemby is listed at 7’4 lol easily 7’6 at this point, honestly wouldn’t doubt if he’s 7’7 which is just insane he’s able to walk normally
Young goat
Some people here are just insufferable holy fuck. I found it interesting the way Wemby talks about the correlation between flexibility and explosiveness.
“If you are hype enough the nba lets you chokeslam and kneecap the other teams best player”
“Playing basketball is much easier if you’re seven and a half feet tall, so work on that”
That must be why Zach Edey went first in a weak draft class, right?
He probably should have gone top three, he’s been really, really effective while he’s played.
I’ve always been curious, is he just tall AF or is it a pituitary gland issue like Kenny George? Genuine question
Tall. Not a pituitary issue or acromegaly.
Thank you! So tall
His father is 6’6” and his mother is 6’3”, he just got hit with the ultra-tall genetics. I believe his maternal grandfather is 6’7” as well.
His brother, Oscar, is also closing in on seven feet
Pretty sure you can’t play in the league if you have a height mutation disorder where you’re always growing
Dude is a phony bologna
Wisdom? You’re 22 bruh grow up and win something first
You think a guy who went pro at 15 doesn’t know anything about how to get ready for professional basketball?
Imagine taking basketball advice from a 7’6 guy who can’t post up Landry shamet 1 on 1.
Don’t go up 29 on the Knicks…trust me
Throw elbow, wee wee
Welcome to Wemby’s Dirty Tactics of Basketball 101. First thing you have to learn is how to swing your elbow violently at an opponent’s neck.
Did he get in their heads tho?
