It was more a story of how thin the Nuggets bench was (and still is). It was a triple OT game and the starters were forced to play 50+ minutes. Russ played a lot because the players behind him were Jalen Pickett (now off the team), Zeke Nnaji (team-worst -17 in only 11 minutes), Deandre Jordan (washed), and Hunter Tyson (off the team).

Jokic, Braun, Gordon, and Watson played basically every minute (Murray was hurt). Then people wonder why they all broke down the next season.

Reports aside I think he might be done. People can argue all day long about how good or bad Westbrook was with the Nuggets but they decided they didn’t want him back for cheap. I think that was it for him on a real contending team, I think the teams with championship aspirations just can’t take the good and bad Westbrook trade off.

Last year was the last gasp of fading star players in my opinion, the Kings were desperate to stay in the mix so they brought him in. Once it was clear the team was done they let him keep doing him and piled up the losses. It will be hard for him to find a similar situation and I think even though his stats are ok, that he can’t contribute to a high level of winning because of his deficiencies. He may have run out of places to go.

What happened to the guy who scored so confidently that 3 pointer against the Rockets from Steven Adams’ intentionally missed FT?

Genuine questions. I don’t follow his career closely so I don’t understand how his game has declined so much.

Russ has always had a lot of flaws in his game: the bad shooting, turnovers, questionable decisions. People could live with it because his strengths were so insanely good that they outweighed all the negatives. His athleticism, rim pressure, playmaking, and rebounding were at a superstar level. Most just accepted the flaws because of everything he brought to the table.

Now we’re at the point where those strengths just aren’t what they used to be. He can’t consistently make up for his mistakes with his athleticism anymore, and the positives don’t outweigh the negatives like they once did. So now you’re basically getting the same flaws without the superstar strengths that made them worth putting up with in the first place. The sad truth is Russell Westbrook isn’t worth the hassle anymore.

Westbrook is great a running a mediocre offense. Probably the best of all time. Problem is he’s not great at running a good offense and awful at running a great one. He’s the ultimate floor raiser, but the ceiling is 6th seed.

The ultimate Westbrook team is great one dimensional players who need someone to get them the ball and handle it. Then u can maximize paying only the best one trick ponies. But the problem is the game plan for stopping that team I’d forcing Westbrook to turn the ball over or shoot and he does both a lot anyway.
