Basically they’re running it back, a bit worse than before, prepping for a future move.  The biggest issue of course is Jokic being a big man on the wrong side of 30.  If they wait too long it won’t matter if they bring in another star.

They actually have less than 10 million from the 2nd apron because unlikely incentives count to the aprons. They have around 5 million in unlikely incentives. So they have closer to 5 million to fill 2 mandatory spots

This is what happens when you build a championship core the year before the 2nd apron is introduced. The nuggets don’t have a modern team and we have been trapped with pre 2nd apron contracts and decision making. Additionally the ownership group is cheap and doesn’t wanna pay up. Last years team was one of the unluckiest injury teams i’ve seen. All the nuggets can do is run it back and make trades next year. Honestly the team could explode and be a play-in team. But they could also be the 2 seed and look dominant. Basketball is weird like that and it al depends on injuries and matchups. Jokic is still amazing so at least there’s that

They’ve had multiple FOs already. They’ve all overpaid their players thereby fucking up their cap. The only constant is nepo owner Josh Kroenke. Kroenke is a shit owner who doesn’t know what he’s doing.

If I’m the Nuggets, mostly standing pat, waiting out the market on an ascendant Watson, and hoping for health doesn’t sound like a bad strategy imo.

Continuity is underrated, and Denver of all teams knows this.

There’s nothing they can do besides stick with what they have or blow it up. Nobody wants their players and their contracts, no assets, can’t go into the second apron.

It honestly seems like that they’re banking on Joker being good for another five seasons and they’re just waiting for Murray and Gordon to come off the books. 

Try being a blazers fan if you want the worst off-season.

This sounds insane but if they’re caught in this contract mess they need to do something very uncomfortable like trading Murray even if that means attaching picks or at least assessing the pick haul they could get for Jokic.

Being 3rd to 5th in the west is their ceiling with real challenges around depth for a deep run. Their top 5, outside Jokic, is also worse than the top west teams.

Their only path to a championship is other teams being injured in the playoffs and if some of these picks the last few years end up as unicorns.

Paying a little tax isn’t some magical solution.

Dumping Cam Johnson or Braun to sign a player that hasnt proven to be better would be a travesty.

It hurts to lose Spencer. In my opinion, they should try to keep him. Getting rid of Nnaji would help alleviate the penalties right?

P Watts is not worth the trouble or the money.

If i’m the Nuggets, i’d just bet on developing Brazile. Give him a lot of minutes from the start. Doesnt matter if it costs them some games. If Brazile turns out well. Denver are still a strong contender. They are gonna be extremely dependent on health though. Nothing can go wrong. Which is very unfortunate.

I’d also consider getting Westbrook. Denver/Jokic managed to make him look good for the first time in the last 5 years or something. I think Denver and Westbrook are good for each other.

They were super close to getting past OKC and possibly winning a title with no depth and critical injuries. It was mostly Jokic but Westbrook was a positive more often than not.

It’ll be a struggle for us to get more than the 5-6 seed

I like Christian Braun but it was a dumb contract before the ink dried. Can’t give him that type of money over 5 yrs. Either high AAV or high years they gave him both

They fucked up maxing MPJ for no reason. That kind of long term max contract is only for superstars

The moment they signed Bagley, it was clear they were punting the season. If he’s playing more than 10 minutes a game, they’re a first round exit at best. He’s empty stats that does nothing to contribute to meaningful winning basketball. And he’s never healthy long enough to make it obvious to the entire fan base how bad for the team he is.

They didn’t really need to make any moves besides signing Watson. If they’re healthy they’re adding a better version of Jokic and Braun as well as having AG and Watson available compared to the team in the playoffs. Given the lack of assets as far as future draft picks go I don’t think there was anything they could have done to make this team better through trades. People think teams who lose badly in the playoffs are irredeemable but it’s more likely they’re about where they were last regular season.

The apron sucks. Teams are getting forced into hard decisions all over the league. To me, Peyton Watson is the priority. They just need to do whatever is needed to make that happen. Then hope a young guy steps up. Finding a team to take Cam Johnsons expiring should not be that hard at 20M. As much as I love AG and JM with the injury history of those guys they are both overpaid. That is why getting under the salary cap is so hard. \(50M for JM is so whack and there is two more years with the last year \)58M! 33M for AG if he is healthy I can sort of take. Jokic - you just pay him whatever it takes but he only has one year left after this one. CB at $21M - IDK. Hope he plays more consistently this year. The roster is fucking mess - it really is. They have not done the greatest job developing young players on rookie contracts.

They should just pivot to building their future. Just treat Jokic just like the current Steph. Window is closed. Trade those with some semblance of value(except for Jokic if he wants to stay) and still try to win games for culture since theres no point in tanking now.

Option1: Let Jones and Watson walk. Recruit good FA on vet min to fill roster and stay under second apron.
Option2: Sign and Trade Watson if can find good deal for Watson (playable bench + draft capital) to go into second apron and make the move mid season
Option3: Sign both Jones and Watson. Lock everything in, pay massive tax bill for next few years and lose Cameron next season.

Regardless of the option, find a new coach or good assistant coach to support Adelman. He’s terrible at in-game adjustment and should be hold accountable for the round exit to injured Minnesota.
