Jaylen Brown ignores a wide open Tatum to shoot an off balance, heavily contested midrange while being double teamed
WHAT!
Pure foul baiting right here
He doing what he called out his new teammate on social media. Walk the talk
Is this Collins??
It’s Darth Vader
Your lack of faith concerns me
No this is Patrick
^what!
After all, he is the smartest guy in the room
Two wide open teammates
How does Eric Collins never miss lmao even in this short clip
THAT’S WHY HE’S THE GOAT!
what?
THE GOOOAT
Lol I love when announcers break character for a second when they see something like this
Brown….whaat?!
I don’t know if that’s really breaking character for collins that’s just kind of his character lol
Man is a legend lol
He’s a league pass MVP
#“OH MY GOODNESS!”
He’s so genuinely baffled like someone just watching on TV and reacting lol
*ignores a wide open Tatum and Pritchard
It’s ok. Not like those two are good 3 pt shooters
And Tatum isn’t fantastic at punishing close-outs
Ppl saying he’s playing for the foul call, like that’s better. He shouldn’t be foul baiting either, and it looks like that idea failed, as it should.
One of my biggest gripes with Brown’s game was how he would give up on good plays just to play for the foul call
Then stare at the ref and not get back on defense
Then later get on Twitch and bitch about other players foulbaiting
Then you log on r/NBA and read about how awesome he is defensively.
Tbf foul baiting was all the rage then.
I’m glad we’re past those wretched times
Little did he know, we are not past these wretched times
which is fine on a team that isn’t literally looking for open 3s all game long
He was simply playing for the sixers already, time is relative
Tbf it looks like Oubre was ready to play that passing lane but still though, he had at least 3 different assists he could’ve made.
He didn’t have his glasses on
Tbf he is not getting a pass to Pritchard off
Once he gathers, stops, and looks around, you are right that Oubre probably jumps that passing route. Or at the very least Pritchard is guarded by the time the ball gets there.
But he has all the time in the world from his second dribble to when he hits the elbow to see all 5 guys and know that Pritchard (and Tatum obviously) has no one around them. This is the tunnel vision is Celtics fans have mentioned about him for years; not constant, but when he does get it, it’s real bad.
He’s literally in rhythm to make the wide open Tatum pass too. Before he tries to do a 270* chuck he’s walking towards Tatum with a clear passing lane and nobody within 10 feet of Tatum, a little disgusting to see it again ngl
Sam Hauser was also in the corner.
Here we go, slander hour
JB’s tunnel vision is an obvious and recurring problem. Not to mention mediocre shooting, mediocre shot selection, mediocre playmaking, mediocre decision-making, mediocre off-ball defense, etc.
I don’t give a fuck what analytics say. Watching him play alone makes me think poorly of him.
I’m actually quite curious how he’ll fit into an offense with Maxey, Lebron, and Embiid given how he played in Boston.
Not really related to Brown but I feel like a lot of analytics do match the eye test if you really know what to watch for.
A lot of people who say Brown looks good on the “eye test” really mean “stat sheet.”
Or they literally just mean that his highlights are pretty cool, and they are! There are also other plays in a basketball game.
And JB’s off ball defense is truly terrible. But guess what it rarely shows up clearly on a stat sheet.
The eye test for a lot of people is literally the Homer Simpson back meme:
Front side: Brown went 27/5/3 in this win with a crazy dunk
Back side: 7 turnovers, 7⁄27, +/- -9, every other starter +15
I agree. I think players hate analytics because analytics can’t measure the amount of dawg in a player…but what many players fail to realize is that dawg alone doesn’t mean shit.
Dawg without talent (or even with talent but not as much as the dawg thinks he has) is absolutely ruinous to teams.
Dawg without talent or brains just shoots teams out of games.
EDIT: by dawg I didn’t even mean “hustle” even though that would be the obvious definition. Analytics definitely values hustle and hustle is actually a great trait to have without talent. I meant to say a fearless mentality. Like mamba mentality. Never stop shooting type thing
I think a lot of players hate analytics because it tells them they’re not as good as they think they are.
well analytics can kinda measure dawg in terms of hustle stats like deflections, steals, blocks, offensive rebounds. not that those are the end all be all, but they give you an idea how many extra plays a guy is making.
for what it’s worth, brown does badly in all 4 of those stats lol. he’s a dawg for taking long twos i guess. he doesn’t play half as hard as a lot of fans seem to think. he gets lost off ball all the time and the team rebounds worse collectively when he’s on the court because he’s lazy with box outs.
if the philly players and coaches are smart/honest, they’ll have brown take a higher effort role in those other areas to leverage his top tier athleticism and be more of a play finisher than a shot creator. give the guards and lebron the ball most of the time. brown should be most of a hustle guy and secondary attacker when the defense is out of position or mismatched. but he thinks he’s an MVP caliber guy so idk how he’d take that pitch.
The Kobe/Westbrook problem
You’d have to watch the games and many folks just look at the box scores and see “oh he got 30 points” but it’s on crazy high usage with a shit ton of turnovers.
Funny thing is the analytics also hate him
For sure but his point is that casual fans blaming Brown’s league wide perception on analytics is a smokescreen; you could just watch him play and conclude his game is extremely flawed
He reminds me a lot of Dubious “Beyblade” Handles. OP’s clip alone summarizes his stint at the Knicks. While a lot of casual fans praised Randle, I never liked his game
Likewise, you don’t need to be a basketball analyst to see the problems in Brown’s game
He is too selfish for his own good
I mean, man was saying his fav season was when they bottled a 3-1 lead cause he was the guy that season.
They actually don’t. The team is slightly worse with him on the floor but they’re still like +12 with him playing the last couple of years
People stupidly think because they’re slightly better with him off the court. That means that they’re like losing games with him on the court. They’re not
Don’t the analytics paint a pretty poor picture of Brown?
i think he’s saying jb doesn’t even pass the eye test let alone the analytics
I watched the guy play for the Cs for 9 years, he definitely passes the eye test sometimes but it comes with a lot of negatives. It’s like you’re squinting and shit
Yeah they do — my point simply was that my evaluation of him has nothing to do with analytics. Even if analytics didn’t exist, I would still dislike his playstyle.
A lot of people talk as if the criticism of JB solely comes from nerds analyzing data.
But for me, my criticism comes from watching him.
Ding ding ding
Incredibly poor
Yes that’s the point. People point at Brown’s analytics and use it to say analytics are dumb, when in reality you can see why analytics hate him if you just watch him play.
I’m fascinated to see how he plays alongside these guys aswell and I don’t hate on him at all but he’s absolutely the most selfish player of the whole starting 5. I don’t even know if it’s because he’s intentionally trying to be either, it’s just a mixture of everything you mentioned.
I think he was traded for more than just cap reasons, I respect Brad trying to frame it that way. I also don’t think Boston got shafted as much as everyone acts like they did even for an old Paul George. I wouldn’t be surprised if the team is equally as good with him as they were with brown. Especially because Tatum will be fully healthy to start the season and he should be even better than he was when he came back. Which is a scary thought considering how great he came back haha
But in terms of Philly it’s gonna be hella interesting. Granted, if JB can’t work with Bron it’s gonna become a problem really quickly so we’ll know early how that’s gonna go. On paper this squad, Nurse, etc. should automatically and absolutely be contenders to go all the way there should be zero excuses. Somebody made a post breaking down just how much Brown enjoys having the ball in his hands and that’s obviously going to become a problem in Philly because in my own personal opinion he should be having the ball the least amongst these guys. If anything, he’s probably the guy you’d want to be leading the bench when the other guys need a break.
Redditors convincing each other that All-NBA MVP candidates are actually not even good at basketball is one of my favorite things about the website
Like sure, he averaged 30/7/5 and was 6th in MVP voting, but he actually cant shoot, dribble, pass, play defense, or have a single competent basketball thought. Basically an All-NBA benchwarmer that should be fighting for any minutes on the court.
Bad faith misrepresentation of my point.
Jaylen Brown is a star who’s on a $300 million contract and makes all-NBA teams.
Obviously he’s fantastic at basketball. Anyone saying he’s not a star or a net negative is a dumbass. He’s top 10-20 and unequivocally a great player.
But when a player is getting paid that much and has the corresponding expectations, it’s fair to critique their game.
And compared to his peers, JB falls short on a lot of aspects of basketball that are important to winning. Kind of like a Carmelo Anthony situation. Carmelo had one of the best bags ever, and I loved watching his skills; hell even his 3 point celly is one of my favorites ever. But I also hated how he played with regards to winning basketball. Same thing here.
It’s really insane tbh
I think it’s just a meme at this point.
JB is nice.
Every player in the NBA is an unbelievable player. We can still criticize them. Brown is a really talented player who has repeatedly torpedoed his team’s performance due to his bad tendencies, which has been masked by the supreme overall quality of the teams he has played on.
It’s gonna be rough. I feel like LeBron gonna have to be getting him subbed out the way he plays lol. No way LeBron/Nurse is gonna be chill with JB throwing entire possessions away like this all the time especially in the playoffs. I think JB scores a max 17 PPG not that that really relates here
In years with a healthy Tatum, he isnt as quick to chuck.
Chucking ain’t the problems, it’s play like in the video that drove most Celtics fans insane. Even with a healthy Tatum, Brown drove into the lane recklessly to get either block or lose the ball of his feet.
Eh he did some ugly chucking against the 76ers with Tatum standing there a few times
It’s infuriating watching C’s fans pissed off with the trade. This sixers series in particular exposed his worst. The number of times he gets caught ball watching and get backdoored by Kelly oubre drove me crazy. That and just him trying to put his head down and drive never thinking about anyone else.
This clip in particular is the worst because teams don’t often bother to double Brown but they did here and for some reason left Tatum open. But the guy had tunnel vision. The guys athleticism is unmatched but his dumb mistakes drove me crazy.
It’s true and everyone will realize it this season unless he magically fixes those issues out of nowhere.
But he was a top 20 player a month ago according to you. What changed since then?

I respect the dedication
He’s still good! I’m not saying he’s bad. But he’s extremely flawed
Oof
Yeah but one guy said “7th best” so we have to ignore all his obvious flaws
Analytics fucking hate him lol
the utterance of false charges or misrepresentations which defame and damage another’s reputation
I don’t see how posting a clip from a game could ever be slander unless it’s completely removed from context or altered
People getting upset at you can’t acknowledge facts
I support the commitment to accurate use of terminology, don’t worry

Everyone’s hating but you’re right.
Per J. Jonah Jameson slander is spoken. I believe this would be libel
I really hope new look Sixers win a title with Brown winning another FMVP then calling out the haters from this offseason.
I hate Philadelphia and their fans but I’m more disgusted by all the hate Brown has gotten before and after the trade.
You don’t really hate hate Philly then
ty doctor. a real hater would hate the sixers more.
Look, if the 76ers win the fucking NBA Finals, I’m holding a press conference on the shittiest corner in Kensington. I will metaphorically suck Edgecombe off in a way the people who embrace “brotherly love” have never seen. Afterward we will march across the river to Camden to pick up used needles and cigarette butts from the WaWa parking lot. We will then haul ass back to Philly to smoke said butts in unison while watching the locals burn their city down

Maybe he can win 6th man of the year too
Best he can get is 7th man
There is no hate for Brown as a person in Boston. The fans love the guy and for good reason.
Brown the player had mixed reception and a lot of people were tired of selfish antics in big games. That said, forever grateful to Brown for Banner 18.
Look like his arm was getting held by pg which he then tried to get a shooting foul which tbh isn’t the worst
That’s not what we’re doing here
I know you’re used to it with Embiid, but people are going to try to turn everything into JB slander
Good example of why playing for the call is bad basketball actually. Because what happens when the whistle doesn’t come? Freebie turnover
Exactly, he’s going for the foul call.
lol that’s obviously what happened but it’s funnier to just act like Brown fucked up here. That gets called 98% of the time
Ignoring open shots to foul bait is a god awful strategy.
Was probably a hard pass to see for him at that time. Also he probably got fouled and tried to get the 2 shots.
Every pass was hard for buddy this series, hence why he averaged more turnovers than assists
Players who are reasonable play makers don’t have to see the pass to make. You know how Philly’s defense plays and you know which defender came to help, therefore you should know who is open and where they are.
That’s crazy to just post some random play. I’m sure Tatum has done similar shit trying to draw a foul or whatever the case may be. This is just a pointless fucking post
Tatum’s career is littered with terrible contested pullup jumpers
yeah, but pointing that out is sacrilege and blasphemy
Lol fr. I’m not a big Brown guy but this is like posting someone missing an open 3. You can’t make the right read 100% of the time.
He didn’t ignore Tatum. It simply never entered into his mind to look for anyone… or to do anything else except chuck up another one.
Yes that’s Brown in a nutshell.
Once the decision is made to attack, he’s putting up the shot 95% of the time, no matter how well he gets defended.
He’s pretty good at it so it works more often than not, but it yields a ton of bullshit like this, and that’s where his inefficiency comes from. Because he’s actually super efficient on good looks.
Man yall weird
Weird as fuck and they just regurgitate the same bullshit they read
Anyone with eyes can see he obviously thought he was fouled
The first thing I thought when watching this clip
My favorite pastime right now is when a Celtics fan talks shit on JB, going into their comment history a month ago and replying back with them talking about how he’s too valuable to trade for Giannis 😂💀Works every time
Every. Damn. Time.
Conversely, it’s been very fun to see everyone who used to shit on JB for all of his flaws are now suddenly big fans of his game and what he brings to Philly
Same can be said for PG to an extent. This trade bringing out the cope in all of us
can’t do that with OP because his comment history is hidden
Hes drawing a fucking foul… Yall are so fucking annoying
he is clearly clearly clearly clearly clearly thinking this is a foul and is making an attempt to capitalize on an and-one opportunity this is like 101 stuff
NBA has to be the only sport where something will be blatantly obvious on screen but because of the player doing it they warp it into some slander gotcha
I feel like you can find this type of highlight with literally any player
It sure is funny how Celtics fans went from “Jaylen is too good to trade for Giannis” to “actually Jaylen sucks and we’ll be better without him”
Well there are a lot of us and sometimes one subsection is louder than another
What a weird post, can you please post the clips on the playoffs of Jb passing to Pritchard and White and then bricking wide open threes as supposed “elite” shooters.
Just looked it up bc I was curious
Pritchard shot 30.9% and White shot 27.3%, both on 7.9 attempts. Yowch.
IIRC White actually started even worse than that and managed to get a few in later in the series but I could be making shit up
Ok. Now go check their shooting percentages with both Tatum and JB on and with one of them is off. And match the numbers you found with the eyetest you will do on the passes JB threw to them all series. (Hint: with Tatum they shot way better, with JB worse and JB’s passes are often too high and too fast to make a clean catch and shoot.) Not every pass to an open man is equal, you would know that if you play the game or watch more carefully. JB had 34.4 passes made per game and 50.6 received in that series, worst of starters ratio-wise, but more interestingly he had a really bad assist/potential assist ratio. People usually chuck it to the shooters that the player passes to, but it is not always the case. That is why Pritchard, White and JB himself has better shooting percentages with Tatum on the court (I can’t check it now but it was almost like 10 percent up), his passes are timely and right into the shooter’s pocket while JB does not pass well. I remember multiple possesions Hauser jumps high and to side to catch the ball and then Oubre, PG or someone closed out.
And that “elite” shooter thing, no, they are not “elite” shooters, they are no KD, Curry or Klay. Not even close. Even 2024 team wasn’t built like that. It was all about shooters getting wide open or moving the ball if they are not. They are all “ok” shooters with ability to put the ball on the ground with the exception of Hauser. (He is the only one who can be discussed as elite shooter, yeah, there is your dissappointment if you will.)
Analytics or eyetest doesn’t mean shit just like this one clip here if you are not paying attention to the game as a team game, as it actually is. But if you tell me that all the passing and assists ratios JB had is on his teammates (while the same teammates are doing fine (just above league avarage) whenever it is another player handling the ball), it means you are not paying attention. Fuck this clip, you can go watch all series, especially the second halves and look for the passes he made even if you accept the ones he didn’t. You will see.
Edit: Btw, this is not to say JB is not a star player. All this discussion became if he is shit or MVP level, it is neither. He can work well in Philly if he returns back to the role he played in 2024 which was being the play finisher feasting on open lanes thanks to Tatum being doubled and shooters moving the ball everywhere. He is really good at that thing. With Maxey, Embiid and Lebron around and him not trying to prove he is “the guy”, it can work real well that way again.
Any clip can spin a narrative.
They won a championship playing your turn/my turn… Now it’s over.
What are we really doing here?
Willingly gaslit for the copium it’s fuckin nuts
are celtics fans still at the stage where they’re trying to convince themselves that paul george is somehow an upgrade?
Yes lmao
kobe does this 5 times every game, but that’s mamba mentality right guys?
Golly gee, I wonder if OP might be a Celtics fan?
yep
You know they won a ring and he was the best player in the finals right?
So lame. I don’t even like dude, but he’s a good basketball player. Not perfect. But quite a good player.
Now the Celtics don’t need to worry about this kind of play, since this is how he played every time down the court. Right?…
And now back to our regular programming of Jaylen Brown slander post-trade
He got fmvp and led a shorthanded team to the 2nd seed, he’s a very good player.
Id rather a post about every team mascot being an ant over this pointless shit lol you can find a bad play for any starter in any game
How is this upvoted lol? Just a normal bad decision in a single play
he unironically made the correct decision. if you’re getting fouled, the optimal thing to do is chuck that shit at the basket
To be fair the commentary is hilarious
Looks like he was trying to get a foul call
Private history and no flair… just put the Celtics flair on bro 😂
Are we going to ignore all of the times Tatum has played iso ball instead of passing to open teammates?
Man, this exact type of play has NEVER happened in the history of the NBA
It’s almost like shit happens in the heat of the moment when you’re a professional athlete playing against the best players in the world, and sometimes you miss things.
This is just so stupid, lol. You could literally find random clips like this for any player in the history of the league, but people use it to build whatever narrative they want.
A few weeks ago NBA fans collectively decided to hate Jaylen Brown more than I have ever hated anything in my life.
Every season/off season there’s a new player. It’s even worst when JB is outspoken and an Celtic/sixer player. He’s getting it from every direction unfortunately. I hate these new “fans”
You could make lowlights like this for pretty much every player in the league
Maybe JB always wanted to play for philly if you think about it
I feel like I’m crazy that nobody is mentioning it, but he clearly feels the right hand grabbing his right arm/shoulder and puts up the shot expecting a call and free throws. This isn’t ignoring Tatum.
Kobe’s ghost nods approvingly.
Luckily they have LeBron James
Analytics people be like, “50 DKP MINUS!”
Kobe!
Looks like he was trying to draw a foul.
But, look, Jordan did stuff like that all the time.
Obviously this is an extreme example but he does shit like this all the time.
These are the exact reasons analytics hate him. It isn’t some voodoo magic, he just makes really dumb decisions constantly.
cant believe that shot led brown and lebron to philly and back to back championships
Brown. What? Funniest thing ever
That’s a good shot
This right here is exactly why Patrick Williams is the better player
I mean, this happened in a playoff game. That matters.
I don’t think he was ignoring. He was trying to sell a foul call and I genuinely don’t think he knew Tatum was there. He’s not an elite passer
100 percent was tryna get the call there lmao sad
Now he’ll be ignoring a wide open Lebron.
Foul baiting. You hate to see it.
He actually had a solid game overall tho and the Celtics won. Glad he’s not on their team anymore.
I don’t think he ignored him. I think he didn’t see, but that is it’s own issue.
Julius Randle with Boston pr
Smartest player on the court.
did he ignore it or does he just have tunnel vision? either way he’s a bad playmaker
Despite his five assists a game last season, he is not a good playmaker. He most likely didn’t see Tatum or Pritchard.
He probably was looking for a whistle on the shot after feeling contact.
For the type of player that he is, this isn’t a bad play.
That’s the Kobe
It would have been hilarious if it went it though
Ok? You can probably get a clip like this from every star in the league. Now if you have a montage of it that’s different
I wonder if this is good or bad for his analytics numbers
The tone on that “WHAT” kills me bro 🤣 I do think he’s getting fouled here tho so the play definitley looks worse than it seems.
not everyone is an elite passer/seer, like magic, lebron, etc.
Kobe was looking down proudly that day
*up
they won this game
Looks like he was getting fouled and thought he gets the call if he shoots it, which is better than passing and then the refs call the foul so he doesn’t get 2 free throws.
Fans when they realize that players don’t have a top down view to see past the two players fouling them
Looks like players on NBA2K
Hard to notice when he’s spinning like a top
Dude was being fouled and tried to get the call
Oh boy is the fandom salty.
Tatum was going to miss that wide open shot.
Cope harder
Cherry picked bullshit. These guys played together for years and years. Went to six Conference Finals, two finals, and won a championship and everyone’s pretending like it was some unplayable combo and JB is some kind of Cam Thomas level iso baller
It was foul grifting bullshit. FTA over there on OKC has like 10 plays like this a game.
Of course, this is Cherry pick nonsense to make it seem like Brown was unplayable with those other guys even though they went to six Conference Finals together
How could he!
Holy shot selection Batman! (Probably deserved a foul tho)
That’s usually a Tatum type of shot. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
5 second clip that starts with him already having his head down going downhill. I’m assuming this is definitely gonna have insightful basketball analysis and commentary! Anyone thinking of replying write your argument timed within 5 seconds.
He’s leveling badges
