He basically quit on the team and brought a bunch of distractions because of these comments. Masai fired him at the end of the season even though his contract wasn’t up.
Never understood this narrative that he isn’t good at developing. Pascal OG Fred and Norm all developed nicely under him. Always felt that nurses shortcomings were exacerbated by Masai’s terrible roster construction, and there was a huge disconnect between him and Masai

Nurse was the fall guy for Masai’s poor post-chip roster construction. The last couple years we were missing so many pieces (shooting, dribble penetration, a C for like years), but he coaxed them to a decent record.
He also got shit for not playing/developing our young scrubs like Malachi Flynn, but he’s always shown that if you’re young and you can play he will give you all the minutes you can handle.
Honestly expect him to rock out with these Sixers, but he will likely get limited credit because it’s such a talented squad. His real achilles heel will be how he manages the bench because he can’t be playing Bron and Embiid megaminutes if they want to make a deep run.

We either overrate the absolute fuck out of our players or we trash them like they’re worthless. There’s no in between. Example: our current sub probably thinks CMB shouldn’t be traded for anyone in the league except maybe a top 3-5 player.
There were plenty of good reasons to fire him by the end of his tenure. He’s a great defensive coach, but his offensive philosophy is pretty much just let the players do whatever they want. He’s also got Thibs disease (loves to play guys 40 minutes and refuses to use his bench). And he’s an asshole, which after a while can start to rub players the wrong way, which it clearly had by the end.

Our team in his later years had heavy offensive flaws. We had no one except Siakam who could even get inside the paint (the second most efficient area) and we were a well below average 3 point shooting team (the second most efficient area).
Despite that, Nurse found a way to make us a relatively average to above average offense by pure schemes - crashing the offensive glass and forcing live ball turnovers.
A coach can either not get enough out of his players, get enough out of his players, or get more out of his players than the sum of their parts. A starting lineup of FVV, GTJ, OG, Siakam, and a random assortment of either Khem Birch, Precious Achiewa, and rookie Scottie Barnes had no business being the 5 seed.
We had one player who could get inside the paint and not a single player who could even shoot .385% from 3, and yet we finished with the 14th most efficient offense in the league.

I don’t know about the Sixers, but I’ve heard very few Raps fans who didn’t think he was a great coach.
I think there have been times when criticisms have been warranted and he was frustrating, but I never agreed with any sentiment over the past few seasons that he should be on the hot seat.
He has barely gotten to coach the roster he was meant to coach for and when he does it usually looks good. His coaching won that Boston series and I also remember the play in game vs the Heat in 2024 that was a coaching war vs Spo.
Now that we have a full roster and actual bench depth he is a great coach to have and well better than any other coach available
