The man isn’t Good Luck Chuck, but he is Good Haul Paul.

After today’s news that LeBron is heading to Philadelphia following the Sixers moving on from Paul George, I think we’ve reached the point where this has become an actual NBA phenomenon.

Every team that eventually trades Paul George seems to come out way ahead.

Somehow, every franchise that cashes in the Paul George chip ends up changing the trajectory of the organization.

-Start with Indiana.

Oladipo became an All NBA player, Sabonis developed into one of the best big men in basketball, and Sabonis eventually became part of the chain of moves that brought Tyrese Haliburton to Indiana. Fast forward a few years and the Pacers are built around Haliburton and competing at the highest level again.

-Then Oklahoma City enters the story.

At the time, Shai looked like a really promising young guard. Today he’s an MVP and one of the five best players in the league. On top of that, Oklahoma City received a mountain of draft picks that helped fuel one of the best rebuilds we’ve ever seen. The Thunder went from losing a superstar to building a championship caliber roster almost entirely through the assets they got in that trade.

The Clippers lost PG and got better. Kawhi found the fountain of youth. Addition by subtraction.

-Then comes Philadelphia.

Now Philadelphia moves on from Paul George and almost immediately the franchise ends up with Jaylen Brown and then LeBron James.

At this point it’s honestly becoming funny.

Indiana traded Paul George and eventually built around Haliburton.

Oklahoma City traded Paul George and got an MVP in Shai Gilgeous Alexander plus enough draft capital to build a contender.

Philadelphia traded Paul George and somehow ended up with Jaylen Brown and LeBron James.

Paul George might be the most valuable asset transaction in modern NBA history. Put that jersey in every rafter.
