A SG that is frustrated being seen as the second option and has had personality clashes with star players. A Center that has injury concerns (conditioning and effort for shaq). A 40 year old star that comes in and ends up being too strongly relied upon in the rotation

And then running into a defensive juggernaut that carves up the team (can happen if it’s Sixers vs Thunder/Spurs in the finals)

LeBron James is one of the greatest players in the history of the league when it comes to improving everyone around him and making teams work. Not everything falls into a neat comparison. The 04 Lakers didnt have any guy who can do that like LeBron can.

I guess maybe a healthy Embiid is arguably as good as Kobe was back then? But that’s like saying my unicorn is faster than your car. Embiid is never healthy, and if the Sixers were smart they’d just plan to go most of the playoffs with him playing like 20 minutes a game.

This is nothing like that. The heart of the Sixers is young. Jalen Maxey is 25, VJ is 20, Jaylen Brown is 29. Ant and D.Wade are solid off the bench and are 27 and 29 respectively. The only questionable play is injury prone Embiid who is 32. But they have Bona, who is 23 and not a bad backup center.

Yeah, I’m not really moved by this. The names are great, but JB and Maxey are gonna have to split touches, LeBron is not the player he once was, Embiid is never healthy, and Edgecombe is still young.

They’ll be better than last year, but I don’t see JB or Bron really elevating them that much. IMO their peak is making the Finals because no one in the East really separates themselves from the pack, and then getting absolutely dusted by the Spurs or the Thunder or whoever.

Part of what makes this work is we have elite scorers already that can carry that load but we’ve desperately lacked top tier ball handlers outside of a season and a half of James Harden. Last year backup ball handler to Maxey was a problem, our best choice was point forward Trendon Watford.

Whatever other skills Quentin Grimes has ball handling is not one of them.

I really thought he’d go to the Cav’s for the storyline. But, since I guess he was telling the truth about it being truly about basketball, Philly and the Wolves were the two best options bar none. Honestly though, placing your trust in Embiid to stay healthy for the end of your career is insane to me, although I do think even without Embiid they’ll be top 3 in the east. A little bummed he didnt choose the Wolves but this absolutely makes sense (mostly.. re. Embiid)
