[Charania] Philadelphia was not being seriously considered by LeBron James until they acquired Jaylen Brown from Boston. LeBron James believed that the 76ers have a better chance to win a championship than Miami and Cleveland.
If you think about it Boston gave us both jaylen brown and lebron
I can’t wait for the inevitable Bill Simmons crashout/ cope pod
On his last episode, he called Philly the best fit, but blew it off. He’s for sure crashing out.
He also was absolutely disgusted by the idea haha
Boston fans top 13 Nadir valley moments of the past 4.5 modern eras. Here’s my list -
Philaphobia at its best.
Maybe he was having another colonoscopy
Hoping he finds out about the Lebron news in an somehow even wilder way than waking up from a colonoscopy.
Bill Simmons waking up from BBL surgery: 😮
The one thing that makes this all worth it.
Can’t wait for the mental gymnastics
Is Hugo Gonzalez actually better than Lebron?
This hurts as a Celtics fan. Bad.
This is all YOUR FAULT
Don’t worry. You guys can always build the dynasty around Tatum and Hugo Gonzalez.
that’s Mr. Hugo “Untouchable” Gonzalez to you sir
Untouchable is kind of a fire nickname. If only, it wasn’t used as a negative here lol
League ain’t ready for our I Go, Hugo offense
This hurts as a Celtics fan, Brad. *
Lebron told me he did this to personally spite you
I knew that guy hated my guts…
It’s like the reverse of the Paul George trade where Presti got assets for both PG AND Kawhi because he knew he had leverage
We got Jaylen Brown and LeBron James for fucking peanuts
THE PAUL GEORGE TRADE STRIKES AGAIN
Most valuable NBA player of all time
Such an asset for a team. Just not on the floor.
Retire the jersey
Celtics fucked themselves multiple ways with that trade, it seems. Created backlash from their fans and created an optimal Bron destination, lmao. Made the next two years of Tatum’s prime exceptionally more difficult.
But at least they can lean on Hugo Gonzalez and Payton Pritchard now 🤣
Tbf whether they made the trade or not, they weren’t going to win another ring in the next 2 years barring an extinction level event lol
I’m already excited for the playoffs to come around
they weren’t going to win another ring in the next 2 years barring an extinction level event lol
I dont know why people think this. They were 2nd in the east without Tatum. They were 4th overall in the NBA for wins with their best player playing 16 games while coming off of a major surgery.
They needed a center. They did not need PG for Brown. Instead they doubled down on Prichard and White when those guys just sucked in the playoffs.
But they got an elite podcaster so who really wins?
Lebron hates the Celtics so much he did this move just to spite them
^(/s or like at least half /s)
Thank you Hugo Gonzalez
Find a new slant
I stg the most consistent thing about lebron is his hatred of the celtics
Is Boston having their worst offseason ever?
Philly’s new GM went all in
I’m just lmao at one of our ex friend who’s both a Bron hater and a Celtics fan. Can’t wait for his meltdown when he wakes up.
Thanks bro I hadn’t thought about it like that, appreciate you
Crazy domino effect
And it all started because of Jared McCain and Hugo Gonzalez
Morey and JMac thank you both for your sacrifices
We love the guy down here so it seems like it worked out well.
All because Brad Stevens wouldn’t trade Hugo for Giannis
Imagine an alternative world where it’s JT, Giannis, and LeBron
I hate that world. (Unless they’re on a non-Celtic team together)
I would hope Bron would have enough human decency to not go to the fucking Celtics for the minimum after leaving the Lakers lmao
Not just the Lakers. He battled the Celtics with the Cavs and Heat. Him playing on the Celtics would be gross.
That would redeem him so much for me.
Pretty sure he has publicly acknowledged he would never play for the Celtics
Brad would’ve drove Hugo to Milwaukee if that’s all it would’ve taken to get Giannis
Yeah, the way people talk about that makes me realize how dumb the average commenter on this subreddit is.
And yet
It’s because they wanted more players and more picks on top of their original offer of brown and two first. Not just Hugo. Everyone is just having fun getting their takes off and ignoring the actual reporting
The actual reporting was we wanted Hugo plus a 3rd pick – why are you spinning it like that was some crazy demand when Miami ponied up 3 picks, Kas and swap for us to get the deal done? lmao
This meme is so tired. They wanted Boston to add Hugo, several other young players, and upwards of 3 more first round picks on top of the 2 they already offered.
Sigh stop. It was never just about Hugo ffs. It was selling the future for a temporary Giannis.
Boston got worse but Philadelphia got better. A hilarious conundrum for us Knicks fans.
Book 76ers vs Knicks for Christmas now lol
I think we’re getting them for both Opening Night and Christmas Day. The league should not waste the opportunities. Max out as many Knicks vs. Sixers games on primetime as humanly possible
Lot of drama matchups for the league to milk on primetime. 76ers vs Celtics, 76ers vs Knicks, 76ers vs Lakers
stacking a knicks ring ceremony and lebron’s first game as a sixer into one game would be a fireable blunder. gotta space them out to maximize the number of eyeballs.
Fireable? The league is about ratings and money at the end of the day. That’s the biggest shot the league can do for Opening Night.
Y’all get to win a chip and laugh at C’s fans, but at what cost? lol
That one exec who said Jaylen Brown wasn’t the 7th best player on their team must feel like Oppenheimer when he realized what he created
He has become god, destroyer of the hopes of all the other teams in the lebron sweepstakes. and the celtics
Crazy offseason.
Congratulations Boston. You just gifted Philly lebron
What do we win?
Eternal misery
I’ll gladly accept Philly winning a chip if it ensures Boston sports misery for the foreseeable future
they’re in boston, they have that at home
Nice.
Chipotle, but with Taylor Farms lettuce
A first round matchup against them lmao
How ever much you hate Boston, you don’t hate them enough
I’d hate them too if I was a heat fan lol
Helped the bucks get dame too. Fuck Boston
All right fair but I think this one is worse
You think we’d rather have Miami get him?
I was hoping for Cleveland. Less of a threat than Philly, still a nice story to end his career where it started
> Loses to them despite being up 3-1 in the playoffs
> Trades Jaylen Brown to them
> Said trade now entices LeBron to join them
That 7th man analytics did CRAZY work for Philly
Brad Stevens has done more for basketball in Philadelphia than anyone since Allen Iverson in 00-01
he might be better than MJ
i mean. from the 76ers perspective they traded for the guy who they watched choke away a 3-1 lead shooting less efficiently than paul george over the last 3 games. then signed a 41 year old.
perspective
Atleast Paul George hasn’t a reputation of choking in the playoffs. Right guys?
i mean. exactly. jaylen choked harder than the league’s most notorious choker
This is James Harden erasure
I love how people say this as if Jaylen Brown didn’t have a massive part in choking away that lead lmao
This is such a dumbass revisonist take lmao. The actual problem is Celtics traded away anyone who could guard Embiid so in the games he was playing in they were getting cooked. Thats what lost them the series. No more Al Horford to just lock him up so Embiid devoured that whole team.
They don’t get a 3-1 lead without Jaylen. Hell I don’t think they even make playoffs.
He still got 26ppg as the no. 1 option. George shot better because he was like the 5th option and everybody was leaving him wide ass open. Its a dumb comparison to begin with lmao.
26 ppg on 55 TS% while averaging more TO’s than Ast’s (?) along with very poor defense. Bias is a mf
Brother he had more turnovers than assists and he scored a bunch of points because he took a bunch of shots.
I love how Sixers fans think everyone who doesn’t think Jaylen is awesome is being revisionist. Some people actually pay attention to the game
Hell I don’t even think they make the playoffs.
Genuinely hilarious take. They’re 47-10 without him in the last four years including 9-2 last year lmao.
Makes sense. But man, betting the end of your career on the health of Joel Embiid…
We’re gonna see Embiid load managed like never before. 6ers are going to go to every length to keep this team healthy for the playoffs. Nothing else really matters.
He legit might only play like 20 games this regular season for how they’ll load manage him
That would make Embiid the only guy in Philly succesfully managing his load after this news broke today
Chicago finally gets a break
who’s playing center on the sixers then
Bona and Hukporti. They don’t need scoring from that position anyway.
They have 2 28 pt scorers on the team and there’s Lebron and VJ.
Dean Wade?
Load managing is a balance though because you still need him in enough games that he has on-court chemistry with the team and all their plays and stuff have enough of a sample size of usage.
Ideally you’d want him at 50+ games if he’s load managed, but he hasn’t played more than 40 in four years.
Also conditioning. You can’t exactly just jump in from sitting on the bench to playoff level basketball and expect your lungs/legs to keep up. ESPECIALLY not Embiid
They are gonna put him in a bubble like that movie with Jake Gyllenhaal
Gonna need to be careful though, their center depth is pretty terrible unless Hukporti takes a major step. You don’t wanna lose so many games you’re accidentally a play in team
I still think there’s a move to be made at backup center whether it’s trading Bona and some 2nds or dropping someone like Jabari Walker/Dalen Terry and picking up Nick Richards on a minimum
Realistically tho LeBron will need load managing too, and that bench is looking mighty thin unless one of their young guys takes a leap
They got an iron man in Jaylen Brown who carried Boston by himself last year, add in Maxey, VJ improving in his 2nd year, Embid is the cherry on top, fucking incredible off-season for Philly wow.
They need to do what we do with Caruso and just have this guy out every other week for hip soreness.
“You want me now or you want me in June?”
I might sound stupid here, but health wise last year Joel wasn’t even that injured. He missed a lot of games, but those were due to some of the heaviest load management you’ll ever see. If he was just a little sore they would not play him. The biggest injury I could think of was bc someone kneed him in the ribs and the appendicitis.
The issue is the playoffs. He needs to get through multiple series.
Thats really your biggest bet. If he starts playoffs healthy can he get through 20 or so games in a row.
That’s definitely not a guarantee. They load managed him INTENSELY this year and he still barely made it past the first series where you have the most rest in the playoffs. 6ers are obviously very very good when healthy but maintaining that health through 4 series is an incredibly tough bet to make imo
He literally had appendicitis and appendectomy like a week before the playoffs lol
The fear is when it comes to the second round and games start becoming every other night. He’s ok on a couple days rest or if he does get banged up he can have an extra day to recover, but every other day has been a challenge.
We’ll see.
I think that you are a victim and believe 38 games isn’t that injured anymore for Embiid.
Playoffs is all they think about with him. Maxey/vj/brown are good enough the lebron can play national tv games and Embiid can do what he wants until playofff time
brother he hasn’t played 40 games in a season in the last 3 years
It’s not like giannis is the epitome of post season health, either. Tbf. (And I don’t think the Cavs would win even if they were all healthy)
To be fair Embiid will have WAY more chances to rest during the season now than ever before. But yeah we’ll see if even then he holds up
People keep saying this as if Maxey, Edgecombe, JB aren’t what he is betting on.
Going from Paul George to Jaylen Brown/LeBron James might be one of the best offseasons ever for an NBA team.
Probably the best since Miami…got LeBron, Bosh, and Allen lol
Allen wasn’t year 1 with them.
True! My bad. Still probably since Miami got both lebron and Bosh in their primes lol
LeBrons full teammate list going to look crazy. Just joined an MVP and finals MVP
And three more all-nba level teammates
3 including Embiid and Brown right? Because I can’t think of an all NBA level player apart from Maxey on the Sixers
Everyone knew the basketball fit was better but I honestly thought LeBron would play it safe and just close the final chapter on his legacy with a homecoming.
Don’t care what your roster is. Winning a championship is extremely unlikely no matter what. Massive respect for LeBron to keep going for it and taking another big risk for his legacy. Heart of a competitor
He can still opt out and do the Cleveland home coming thing next year if he really wants to
That seems the most likely to me - one last ring chase on Philly then farewell tour at home
This comment truly could only be written by a fan of the team he just signed on. “Heart of a competitor” is NOT going to the most obvious win now team 😂
Wouldn’t the most obvious win now team just be the Spurs/Thunder/Knicks?
I’m sure they can fit in LeBron at $3.8M
Spurs with Bron would be so disgustingly unfair. Thank god that didn’t happen
The Lakers subreddit is pissed rn.
He needed those last two second round exits to cement goat status.
“Heart of a competitor” but always looking for the easiest route to a championship?
He’s like Hercule from Dragon Ball Z.
This isn’t a big risk.
If Embiid is healthy and they lose it’ll be on Nurse. If Embiid is injured and they lose it’ll be on Embiid.
If they win he gets credit for taking the Sixers to their first chip since 1983.
You’re crazy if you think people won’t still hold it against Lebron if they lose
First time a player ever got “massive respect” for blatant ring chasing lol.
The Sixers also have a wealth of assets to trade for additional help mid season. I believe they have 3 firsts and 3 swaps available to trade.
Should be enough to get Bronny
Bron. Brown. Bronny.
I know a winning team when I see one
Sixers go br
Those “it’s always Bronny in Philadelphia” shirts aren’t going to print themselves
Need a backup C and maybe a bench wing beside Wade.
yeah, I think if Philon shows flashes early, I could see Simon’s contract being flipped for one of those at the deadline
need a backup 5 upgrade in a desperate way, but there’s plenty of time
Technically we only have one first available to trade at the moment because most of the picks are locked due to stepien. Boston kinda boned us in this regard, picking the one future pick that would hamstring us the most and the 2028 pick is almost certainly going to be a swap, but due to some wonkiness in the language of the trade, it isn’t guaranteed to be a swap.
But there’s other ways around it so that we could open up more picks to trade so I still expect Gansey to be very active.
Can only trade 2033 first but could do a bunch of swaps
I’m gonna kill myself bro WYM
Could the 2027 Philadelphia 76ers “Championship Winner on Paper” beat the 2026 Analytical Cleveland Cavs that beat the Knicks in the ECF?
That is the real question.
Kenny is crunching the numbers right now and is liking what the model says.
Little Domino: Joel Embiid’s appendix bursts
Big Domino: LeBron James is a Sixer
Atomic Domino: 76ers trade Jrue Holiday for Nerlens Noel
What about all those articles saying Jaylen was actually a net negative and the Celts are a better team without him
LeBron sees the opportunity to carry the analytically worst player in the league to a ring as a boon for his GOAT narrative.
The real hardest road
I mean LeBron could be wrong
Westbrook trade 2.0! Lebron has a type.
LeBron’s only real weaknesses for most of his career were 3s and free throws. You think he’s a big analytics guy?
No that’s why he didn’t go to the cavs. They’re the analytical champs after all
Idk Lebron getting excited about a guy who is not as valuable as where a casual might rank him checks out actually
It actually is really common with the long history of LeGM
Don’t forget the years of r/nba calling Jaylen a bum!
Brad Stevens is the best GM for Philly Basketball teams
So who in the starting lineup of Maxey, Edgecombe, Brown, James, and Embiid is taking a massive step back in usage? Lebron already took a big step back last season (and didn’t seem super happy about it).
Obviously, the math is not as simple as this, but last season those 5 players add up to nearly 150% usage. While they’re not going to be on the floor together all game (and certainly won’t all be available every game), how comfortable are Brown and Embiid going to be taking way less shots while all 5 are on the floor together? Will Edgecombe be okay with not having more touches in his second season? How quickly will Lebron grow frustrated with Brown driving into traffic and losing the ball rather than making the correct read? Who is going to defend?
Maxey will be moving back to a more offball role, which he’s better at. And VJ will likely have less second unit “initiator” reps as well, will be cutting and spot up shooting. Embiid probably slightly less central on offense as well, although I guess we’ll see.. he’s never really done that
LeBron is definitely taking a massive step back since he’s playing for only 4 mil. Sixth man till playoffs.
i can say 1000% the price lebron charged is not related to how much he will play.
LeBron winning 6MOY and FMVP in the same season would be hilarious
Not an issue as Embiid will be very very load managed
Embiid will be load managed and edgecombe will see those “sophomore year slump” articles
If the Sixers can win a title then everyone in the NBA Atlantic division will win a title over the ten years starting from 2019
Oh wait I forgot someone
Nets: No, we won it with you guys, for all of New York
What was Brad Stevens thinking
optionality
Optionality is the new verticality
I trust the judgment of the guy who has the best track record of any GM other than Sam Presti over random redditors
Nico Harrison was doing pretty good until he was the biggest joke in basketball.
Nico was never even in the same dimension as Brad and let Brunson walk for nothing. Any attempt to compare the JB trade to the Luka trade is inherently stupid and any person who suggests it knows nothing about basketball
he thinks pritchard is going to be their brunson
We gave up JB for fucking PG and they got Lebron too. Fucking dog shit.
Thanks a lot Brad
Brad playing the long game, knowing Philly’s luck there’s no way this doesn’t blow up spectacularly
A final fuck you to the celtics by lebron james.
love it.
I still don’t think this team can win the title, they really don’t have a center rotation. it’s a pretty sick starting guard and forward lineup, but not much else.
And in the playoffs, they’ll have 0 center depth because Embiid’s knees/back will explode (as is tradition)
Agreed, they gotta sell every pick they’ve got to pad out the bench
Nick Nurse: Rotation? Who said anything about a rotation?
If I had a nickel for everytime that Paul George was traded in order to facilitate a superstar free agent signing, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
i will fall to my knees if he wins another
LeRing Chasing
It’s all your fault Boston!
I pray this doesn’t end up being like how the Jrue Holiday trade was for us lol.
Celtics really decided to just slam their own championship window shut at the altar of analytics and now have to deal with LeBron back in thr East.
Brad Stevens legacy defining terrorism move.
Bro might be in his late Mitch Kupchuk era. Built championships but now going for Loul Deng and Mozgov.
First time in my life I say this words: THANK YOU BOSTON
Fucking celtics lol
LeBron is a terrible GM lmao
The next two seasons are going to be very sunny in Philadelphia
LeBron is so tacky. The bandwagon jumping is so unbecoming of a player of his status.
