The Dundon rule. You can’t buy a team, if you’re going to be a huge asshole…. But actually a new owner can’t relocate a team for ten years. Same as the NFL.
That relocation rule would actually be a good rule.
It would make a lot of sense. Make it so a new owner can’t just waltz in and take a team from fanbase. If you have a team for 10 years, THEN you’re allowed to make that choice.
This should have been enacted immediately after the Sonics were torn away from Seattle.

Agreed. Look at the Jazz. A new owner comes in and trades the two biggest stars on the team. It was 100% the right move. That team topped out, had no real avenue to improve on the margins and the stars did not like playing on the same team. At bare minimum, one of them had to go. Rasheed Wallace ball don’t lie rule. If the fouling player yells ball don’t lie before the free throw is taken and the free throw attempt misses. The foul is rescinded and no more free throw attempts will occur for that foul. Maybe only give 1 or two a game so it doesn’t slow down the speed of the game. Or give a technical foul on the player that yells ball don’t lie if the free throw attempt is good.
“Ball don’t lie” initiates the Summer League one free throw for two points.
But if the shot is made, the player calling it gets a T to keep with the spirit of Wallace.
Honestly, if the NBA ever implements an in-ball sensor to help officiating (like they did in the summer league), it 100% should be known as the Rasheed Wallace sensor.

The reason wemby gets so much latitude in that area in the first place is that he kept getting goaltends called on his legitimately blocked shots early in his career, because it doesnt look natural. The refs are in a bit of a no win situation. Forcing the spurs to burn two challenges a game on goaltending calls isnt what they want. Its a balancing act.
They can just review it like a foot on the 3 point like and take the points away during play

This was never an issue historically but somehow modern NBA refs are awful at spotting a goaltending violation.
They used to be so good you would question why they blew the whistle, see the replay and clock the goaltend.
These days they almost need to review them all the way they do 3 pointers and make the adjustment after the fact.

The Jaylen brown rule is actually just removing max contracts so we don’t get into a situation where Jaylen Brown makes as much as Giannis or Jokic.

This one would be really simple. The extra $ for the supermax, regardless of type of supermax or tenure of player, just don’t count against the salary cap if the player was drafted by that team. Player still gets paid, but they count as a regular max against the cap. Ineligible players who moved teams can still get a supermax, but the team takes the cap hit.
It’s insane to me that Luka was ineligible for the supermax because of an obscure rule, but the Celtics got punished for drafting and keeping Tatum and Brown for a decade. A minor detail of the Luka trade that somehow makes it EVEN BETTER for the Lakers, if that was even possible.

Lu Dort, undrafted, given time to develop and becomes a solid role player. Can’t be extended to save money. Wiggins was a second rounder who was given time to find his game in the NBA too.

I do think if there’s sufficient evidence that cap circumvention occured, it should be an automatic 3-FRP forfeiture at minimum for team (which can include picks 7+ years out if the team traded them all away) and voiding of the contract in question, while having the contract treated as dead money on the offending team’s salary cap.
Aside from voiding the contract (which is necessary since it’s an illegal contract), there shouldn’t really be a focus on player punishment, as the onus should be on the team to not offer or enter into an illegal contract.

The Wemby Rule - it’ll amend defensive 3 second violations to prevent the clock from suspending while a defender is in the restricted zone.
Currently the clock resets when the defender is within arms length of an opponent and in an active guarding position. The subjective clock for defensive 3 seconds is suspended when a player is in the act of shooting, there is a loss of team control, the defender is actively guarding an opponent, the defender clears the paint, or it is imminent the defender will become legal.

NBA revenue sharing should be scaled to 5 year win %s. If you’re a good owner and you win games, you should get a larger split. If you’re a shit owner who puts out bad teams, you should get a smaller split.
If that’s too financially burdensome on bad owners, they should sell to an owner who is willing to bet on themselves.
Fans Rule 1: Make games affordable for families. Parent with children should get a massive discount.

The Harrison Rule. Teams cannot trade “star” players (defined by AS selections, max contracts, or however else) unless they get a certain level of return (number of draft picks, or other players of a certain level, etc.). If a proposed trade doesn’t meet the criteria, teams can submit the trade details to an independent review board (like who runs the draft lottery) to be granted an exception.
As a side effect, this will likely disincentivize teams from handing out so many max contracts.
