Miles Bridges at his Phoenix Suns introductory press conference: “It’s mixed feelings about me being here, but I take full responsibility of my actions. I’ve been to counseling. I’ve been to therapy.”
Why are the NBA and NFL so tolerant of domestic violence?
“If Hannibal Lector ran 4.4 we’d say he has an eating disorder”
The irony of this joke is that the dude who said it (Steve Kiem) is now an agent at the agency that represents Miles Bridges (Klutch).
He did say “we”
He absolutely has an eating disorder. Just also happens to be a serial killer.
I think you mean he has a ‘robust personality’ and a ‘unique way of dealing with confrontation’
Eclectic tastes
In soccer, I think Harry Redknapp said that if Saddam Hussein was playing for Arsenal and he was winning them games, the fans would start chanting “There’s only one Saddam!” lol
Is that a Bill Burr joke or did someone actually say that lol?
Cardinals GM Steve Keim on weighing off-field issues for prospects: “If Hannibal Lecter ran a 4.3, we’d probably diagnose it as an eating disorder.”
Sucked as a GM but will always be remembered for that quote.
And his extreme DUI(blood alcohol level of .193).
If you’re not above .100, are you really impaired?
Damn dudes a baller
Dang, respect for the honesty.
I don’t think being self-aware of your own shittiness is something worthy of respect.
Former Arizona Cardinals GM - Steve Kiem. The irony of this joke is that he is now an agent at the agency that represents Miles Bridges (Klutch).
I feel stupid for not realizing Klutch extended beyond the NBA into the NFL
Yeah. Baseball too. They’re like a top 4-5 agency in terms of total active contracts. Love or hate him, Rich Paul built an empire. Sure he needed LeBron as a cornerstone but he’s savvy af.
SHOW. ME. THE MONEY!
Hayabusa!
This does sound like a Bill Burr punchline
Oh
https://youtu.be/kdKzlEZ8M4A
hint: it’s not just the NBA or the NFL
Don’t be dramatic. It’s not like we have a president who has been recorded bragging about assaulting women or entering girls’ dressing rooms at beauty pageants or been found liable for sexual assault in court
Court? Like where they play ball on or like where Boof Kavanahugh and Coke Can Clarence have lifetime appointments?
To be fair though, the NFL easily has the most DA cases and it isn’t close. I feel like I’ve seen 50 since COVID from past, present and future players.
Is that in total volume or on average? There are more NFL players due to the size of the rosters and there being 2 more teams in the NFL.
It’s probably the CTE and roster size difference.
Also I’d assume it’s partially tied to the fact they have spent their whole, young lives focusing on one thing, that sometimes the mental and emotional maturity with regards to other things in life get stunted.
Social media takes away a ton of privacy from celebrities today, too.
I mean that’s really not a fair comparison though they have 50 players per team or whatever instead of 15 so it really should be a percentage of the players. Maybe the NFL would come out on top but we’d have to do the math just counting the number of players is not really correct way to do it
Yeah this is an any field issue. It’s like a linear graph of how much money generate vs the amount of stuff you can away with
Blame the fans too
Yup, his first home game back with us, there were female fans holding signs of support in the audience. Fandoms are fucking cultish.
I saw this directly with girls who support Chris Brown. Bursted my bubble that he was an enemy of women. The crazy part was they’d didn’t even go “I only care about his music but not him”, they were legit defending HIM as a person as well. I was flabbergasted.
I mean a lot of women do consider him an enemy. Just an uncomfortably high number still gush over him.
I don’t know many Suns fans that want this guy around lol
You also don’t know any that will stop watching because of it. And I am not judging because we all compromise when it comes to trying to find some joy/entertainment from watching our favorite team. Many of the owners are actually evil people who make the world a worse place in real life. But if we are still tuning in then at some level we all have to admit that we are tolerant of these people.
It’s pretty much the bane of accountability anywhere in capitalist society.
Want bad people to be held accountable? You have to either stop a company from making money by withdrawing support entirely (and hope that enough people do the same), or you have to be wealthy enough to put money into places that are working to stop that company from making money.
You also don’t know any that will stop watching because of it.
I was a former Blazers fan and I know many other former Blazers fans that refused to root for the team after they hired Chauncey Billups (an accused rapist). So there are plenty of people that follow their ethics with sports teams.
Teams definitely make it tough with their utter lack of ethics and morals though.
Genuine question. After he was gone did you go back to watching?
They’ll still buy tickets and the Suns won’t change their ways.
It’s not about “want”. It’s about will the fans stop watching/attending. The league gives zero fucks about your feelings. As long as it doesn’t fuck with the money it doesn’t matter.
Well, they’re certainly losing my $60 this season!
I certainly won’t doubt you. But I would bet money the accountaints won’t see even a small blip from this.
How are they tolerant. He went through the legal system, completed DV counseling and parenting counseling for a year. They suspended him.
What more are you looking for? A lifetime ban?
Crazy part is if he beat an 18 year old boy senseless, nobody would be thinking about it today.
Yea this one is conflicting… nobody is obviously condoning what he did and i feel like people think youre supporting his actions if you even suggest that he’s taking the steps for rehabilitation.
People don’t actually want rehabilitation for people. They say they do, but realistically they’d rather they’d just disappear.
you’re also assuming he has gotten better because he said so
Well I haven’t heard any news about him recently have you?
This is a wild thing to me that I see come up with every celebrity/public figure. For me it’s not about accountability or redemption. I hope he’s battled his demons and that he’s on a new path or whatever the fuck, I couldn’t care less. At the end of the day he’s an entertainer, and I pay a lot of money to watch my team play basketball, and I simply don’t want to spend the time they’re playing against a wife beater thinking about that shit.
Is that crazy? I don’t get how anyone sees past that. Should he be allowed to live his life, provide for his family, move on from his mistakes, sure! He doesn’t have to do it on public television. Nobody owes anyone shit. He gets paid to entertain people, and I’m not entertained by abusers. Public figures should be held to a higher standard. He isn’t a finance bro or a janitor minding his own business. His entire job is to be a public figure. Redemption has nothing to do with it.
Some people say “but he needs to provide for his family!” Well he shoulda thought about that shit in the first place. Plenty of people get fired from their jobs for all kinds of reasons. Life isn’t fair. If I get in a fight at my job at mcdonalds I’m not given a second chance. Why do we treat celebrities like they deserve anything? He’s already among some of the luckiest and most blessed people on earth even if he doesn’t earn another dollar in his life, or make another single public appearance. There’s so many other people out there who have simple bad luck and don’t get to play professionally, or whatever the case may be. Life sucks and it’s not fair. Why should it be extra fair to someone like him?
Could it be due to the consistent snd established pattern of teams in the NFL and NBA giving spousal/child abusers second and third chances, again and again, nearly instantaneously?
Do you think that could be a factor in why these leagues get accused of being tolerant towards DV?
We’re splitting the argument now, because if Bridges is truly getting consistent therapy and showing an aversion to family violence, i agree that this should be encouraged.
Let’s just not get it fuckin’ twisted. These leagues, in general, don’t mind signing/rostering domestic abusers.
In what world is your last sentence true. Delusional
Not to mention, what he did was worse than that..
Hitler could drop 28ppg and all his sins would be forgiven by the NBA
Hitler is still in Cleveland
Results are the first, middle, and last word in sports.
It’s not the NBA and NFL, it’s society as a whole. On top of which, the incident was 4 years ago, and it at least sounds like he’s trying to be a better person. Should he be banned from getting work for life? And if so, should that happen to all people who commit DV?
Why is society as a whole tolerant of it? Are the leagues more or less tolerant of it than other institutions?
Fans keep spending money to watch the offending teams
I mean every team is owned by a rich piece of shit we’re all guilty.
Money.
The entire country looks the other way to sexual assault and pedophilia. It’s not just the sports leagues
Because cancelling someone makes no sense. People should be allowed to be employed. You should be pointing fingers at the justice system for not prosecuting.
It ain’t just them man
It’s a very easy answer… Because the fans are.
That’s literally the barometer. If it doesn’t fuck with the money flow it’s all good.
If you’re not willing to walk away from your relatively meaningless fandom of a billionaires play toy, then why would owners give a shit? We obviously don’t.
Not trying to exonerate anyone here but the NFL is more on there ufc level in that department than the NBA level.
Well, half of the country doesn’t care about rape, racism, or citizens being killed by masked gov’t enforcers in the street, so….
Yeah, we needed a player like him but… like, why did it have to be him?
We had Mikal Bridges in ‘21. Feels like so long ago.
Yep further tainting the only good memories of that team.
Mikal was legit the Heart of the team, New owner didn’t realize it and assumed it was Booker.
I thought you misspelled Hart as Heart, as in Josh Hart.
Love to see the Mikal love, he really was the glue to that 21 teams chemistry with all his dances/individualized hand shakes. Cool to see the Knicks bring in some of kal’s former teammates like Payne and Shamet, as they’ve done with Josh’s guys Alvarado and Clarkson too.
Yeah…I like the Suns too. Sorry for your loss.
*sorry for their gain
the exceedingly rare subtraction by addition
It didn’t. This stinks.
Dallas seems like they’re willing to part with PJ Washington
He would’ve been a nice addition
I’ve obviously watched both, and PJ is a way more valuable PF. Miles is better at creating a shot, but he’s still not good enough at that to warrant giving him the ball.
You mean a guy that can’t really shoot or play defense that well and isn’t super explosive athletically anymore?
Unbelievable scumbag. Only thing more humiliating than him being on the team for the last 4 years was the legions of Hornets fans and media who essentially forgave him and acted like he is a good player because of “availability”.
Shoutout to who Jeff Peterson and Charles Lee called “the heart of the team”
No wonder we sucked
Oof, you need to take that heart out like in Temple of Doom
As much as I like the team there was always a very weird subset of Hornets fans that would praise his performances and say shit like “I don’t understand why people want us to trade Bridges”. Really? Nothing at all comes to mind?
It’s a new dawn for the Bobcats man. Kemba and MKG got next!
MKG will totally fix his shot in the NBA.
dude yeah, the amount of people that defend Miles Bridges is pretty insane.
early in the season there were some highlight clips of him rotating and any criticism of him in the comments of the highlights would immediately be downvoted as if Bridges had a bot army.
He’ll never say out loud what he did though
Yea, this “i take responsibility for my actions” is such a half assed approach.
I have mixed feelings about being here.
The team owner must be thrilled with that one.
What did he do?
Domestic violence against women and children.
DV, as part of which he threw billiard balls at his ex’ car with her and his kids in it.
Actually, that’s how he violated his restraining order for DV. What he doesn’t have the balls to say is that he knocked out a tooth and broke facial bones of the mother of his child IN FRONT of said toddler, who was begging daddy to stop.
I want to give the man benefit of the doubt that he’s grown and changed, but MAN is it hard to do with this situation. Especially since he *seems* like a good guy otherwise. Just can’t bring myself to do it.
At least it’s not my problem anymore
There is no need for any benefit of a doubt, he has proven time and time again that he is a complete piece of shit who at best can be taught to belch out this kind of non-apology without taking responsibility for what he did or what he is.
The problem is that people who commit DV once are significantly more likely (than those who haven’t) to repeat, and do it again. At some point that’s just the human they choose to be. Counseling and therapy is the right choice but I just hope it works.
Suns fans need therapy to have domestic violence player on their team
You had Jaxson Hayes for 3 years lmao
He’s speaking from experience. That’s a legit advice.
LOL, fair.
So that means he’s wrong or ?
Jerry Colangelo sent Jason Kidd packing after a DV allegation. Times sure have changed.
LMAO, we had Hayes’ sorry ass for about 4 years.
Your comment coupled with your flair is something else.
Even more experience.
and kobe for 2 decades
why do you think I know first hand experience
Yeah the dude’s previous actions suck. But what’s the point of him trying to be better (assuming therapy and counseling are legit) if people are always going to treat him like he’s still the guy he used to be?
Maybe by not violating the previous protective order
This report is from nearly 3 years ago, how is that relevant to what he said today?
I’d love to see some of you all have your darkest moments on display so that the public, your family, and colleagues will never let you live it down and you can see how it feels.
Miles Bridges on July 2023: I want to apologize to everybody for the pain and embarrassment that I have caused everyone, especially my family. This year away I’ve used to prioritize going to therapy and becoming the best person I can be — someone that my family and everyone here can be proud of. Miles Bridges on October 2023: The incident I linked above Sorry I don’t believe him after the first time lmao. Also most people’s darkest moments aren’t assaulting people, let alone women, wtf
Looking at that case, it says the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence. Apparently his ex kept changing her story and at first she didn’t even blame Miles, but his new girlfriend. It was later that she changed the story to say Miles was the one who harrased her and that she was unsure of how her car got damaged.
This year he filed a cyberstalking restraining order against her…tbh it sounds like an all around toxic situation. Not an excuse for beating her up obviously, but just wanted to point out the facts of the case you posted.
I might be really unusual, but I have found it quite easy to not batter my wife or any other woman for that matter.
In fact, felonies are pretty easy to avoid committing, but maybe that’s just me.
Bro my darkest moment in life is like oversleeping or forgetting a family members birthday or some shit. Not beating up my partner
Bro my darkest moment in life is like oversleeping or forgetting a family members birthday
Lmao. Congrats
Bro, it’s pretty easy to not do any of the bad shit he did
He should want to be a better person for himself and his family regardless of whatever the outside noise is
People say shit like this, and while on some level it’s definitely true, what it really masks is that people want to continue to shit on him. I’ve said this before but America doesn’t actually care about preventing or stopping crime, or helping victims. It cares about punishing criminals.
That’s definitely true, but he faced so little consequences that people are thirsty for something. He is still a millionaire while so many good people are having money issues. It’s hard to accept, because we want to have good people be rewarded
Of course people want criminals to be punished. Probably more than ever. Because more than ever we can see how blatantly just being a rich, powerful man let’s you get away with everything and still continue to be rewarded, much less any semblance of punishment.
And that has nothing to do with the Miles situation really. Even if he does improve as a person, nobody is ever obligated to ever forgive him for it. I truly hope every criminal rehabilitates and become better people, but not all of them deserve forgiveness. Especially when that forgiveness is in the form of making hundreds of millions of dollars to entertain the public.
Isn’t the next best thing that he tries to be a better person for other people? Better than not trying to be better, right?
Well, it’ll be for himself and his children and not for other people but, you cannot blame people for feeling that way. Especially if they’ve been a victim of the types of actions that he displayed.
Rehabilitation is not what our society is about. Whether it’s people’s intention or not, we’re about labeling for life and maximizing the chance of residivism.
Lol, wut? You don’t try to correct past heinous actions for the publicity of it.
Be an upright dude for the right reasons and that will all follow, but it can’t be the goal son.
There’s been contradictory evidence to the idea of him changing
Bingo. You see this all the time where a famous person makes every attempt to right the wrongs they did, and people never let them live it down.
For growth in his personal life, that impacts the people he is around including his ex and his children. Not for people who are upset he’s still employed in the nba. Cmon
Oh, I don’t know; so he doesn’t have the urge and then execute on that urge to beat women?
I guess for op the only reason to not do domestic violence is the pats on the back lol
He should go be a new guy somewhere else thats not the NBA
[ Removed by Reddit ]
The point of him trying to be better is for himself and his family.
But that’s doesn’t make him entitled to or deserving of anyone else’s forgiveness. Domestic violence for me (and no doubt a lot of other fans) is an unforgivable action, not just a “mistake”. So good on him for trying to get better and I hope he does get better and be a good partner and parent. I just would not want him on my team and representing my city.
Fuck miles bridges, get this loser outta the nba and into prison
No, Miles, we don’t need to beat teams that way.
That coward would never put his hands on someone his size
He fought Beef Stew this past season….
And Beff Stew is bigger than him. Like I said, that coward would NEVER fight someone his size!
LOL, this is like the Wrestling Manager not giving Peter the cash in Spider-Man 1 because he beat Bonesaw in 2 minutes instead of 3.
Can’t wait for the next Kobe-adulation thread….
His hair definitely isn’t slicked back… people can change. I’m still skeptical.
No clearly brushed back. He probably has sloppy steaks though.
It’s not brushed back, it’s pushed back
How is the sloppy steak in Phoenix?
You don’t even need to order water if you’re fine with consuming your own sweat
he used to be a piece of shit
Jason Kidd beat his wife and crashed his car while drunk yet kept landing head coaching positions. NBA doesn’t care about these sort of things with their employees
The nba cares about money
The day we the fans stop giving money to leagues that employ domestic abusers, thats the day the leagues will kick them out
The owners have no morals, but neither do we since we keep watching and buying merch
“I take full responsibility for my actions.” Oh, so you will go to prison willingly?
Well, not THAT much responsibility
What a loser
This dude legit abused his wife in front of their two children
“I’ve been to counseling. I’ve been to therapy” that’s the problem, he should have served time… and the counseling was mandatory.
He has done the opposite of take full responsibility for his actions in the past.
He should be out of the league.
Literally used a golf cart as a weapon last month.
Fuck this guy
Cheater forgiving self for cheating on spouse energy
As a man, you are a total piece of shit, suns should be embarrassed
“I’ve been to jail” would be more suitable.
Is this the woman beater?
Media training doesn’t make this clown sound any less like an idiot.
I’m so sick of the hate redditors have for this guy. It feels so disingenuous. It’s been years since the incident and you don’t know him. You have no idea what happened behind the scenes and what his relationship with his ex (?) is like. In no way do I condone domestic violence, but I’m not going to hold it over the head of a dude I don’t know and don’t care about outside of basketball. I’m especially not gonna hide behind an anonymous account and talk shit about the guy for fake Internet points. Get off your high horse and keep it pushing.
This is why shit like this never changes.
If people actually cared, the NBA wouldn’t have a choice but to cut players like this out. It wasn’t right when they let them continue to play in the past, and it isn’t right now.
But apathy wins out in the end because you can just call people “disingenuous,” and then brush it off like it doesn’t matter.
You suck dude. Your argument sucks.
Man ur weird ash. You don’t need to know the dude personally to dislike him for abusing a woman
Fuck you dawg, you should be in jail not therapy.
Well, you should be in both ideally.
Glad we got our dickhead off the team. I feel for you Suns fans.
“I take full responsibility”. Bro you shouldn’t even be in the league. That’s full responsibility.
Fuck this guy. Why is he even in the league still?
Fuck Miles Bridges.
Why is it mixed feelings being there? I get everything else.
I believe in rehabilitation. I also believe this dude needed to be away from the game longer and not still be available as a player to get his millions after the bullshit he did.
Actions over words.
He literally talks about the actions in this very quote.
did he talk about hitting someone with a golf cart a few weeks ago
This sucks.
Miles bridges the wife beater
Does therapy un-punch your partner?
Nah.
How can one un-punch someone? You’re literally setting an impossible bar to reach. Just say you hate a dude that’s trying to improve.
I guess we’re just anti-rehab on this sub
Lame ass perspective. People fuck up and are allowed second chances.
Don’t forget all of the NBA players and podcasters that still fuck with this guy… 520 guys… all of them. Fuck them
Didn’t the girl he abuse try to attack him at his house after he got a restraining order on her? I don’t condone violence but why do people jump the gun like this. Some people know how to make you act in ways you’d never see yourself act. You can admit fault and make sure you never do it again.
Wasn’t his ex just arrested last week for stalking him?
“Let the hate comments roll” !
always a good sign when you trade for a player and the first thing out of his mouth is “I’d like to apologize for my actions, I’m going to therapy”.
Not going to therapy, went to the court mandated counseling, only when he was required to.
Why does it matter? Therapy is therapy and you have zero knowledge that he went just because it was mandated
I’m just saying what did you guys want him to say other than this? Not much one of these guys can say except this
Glad he’s not on the Hornets anymore solely because Reddit virgins are so obnoxious in hating Bridges but giving dudes like Kidd, Hayes, Kevon Porter Jr, and especially Kobe a pass. Kobe taped a woman ffs yet yall dickride the shit out of him.
Bridges is a piece of shit but god damn the cognitive dissonance here is wild.
Just wild he’s talking about this now, not when it happened.
Counseling and therapy hasn’t changed who he is or what he’s done
That’s a cop out. If you want to truly change your behavior it’s not a one time waive a magic wand proposition.
I can see him and brooks getting along just fine…
As a Tech fan it’s crazy to see Brian Gregory as the GM of the Suns
One might even say he’s… completely healed
Really? His finsta says otherwise
I could look past KD, I could to some degree look past Grayson (still hate them and wanted to see Grayson get smacked by someone for his dirty plays) but this…. can’t look past this one. I am now supporting the Pacers since they signed Tsunami Papi.
I forgive him
Hopefully what said is sincere but I don’t believe it
