Tony Vitello Ejected After Play at 2nd
Appeared to be safe, but for Mike Estabrook to say Willy pushed the big man off the bag then to act like a teacher yelling at a student for a second time this series is a different story
Then talking to Vitello as if he was a child didn’t help matters
it being Mike Estabrook, at least we know it’s not purely a “Tony Vitello isn’t respected” thing because Estabrook was trying to lecture Jason Kendall in 2010 before becoming a full-time ump. Also Mike Estabrook’s hairline looked rough before he turned 34, but that’s another topic.
Vinnie’s hand was on the bag when the tag was applied anyway.
Very possible. But that isn’t what the umpire called; what he called was clearly wrong but not reviewable.
The call was bad but the end result would have been the same either way. Not really worth being upset about.
That’s not how it works. Making the wrong call is still wrong even if it has the correct end result.
Sounds like a shitty way to go through life getting mad about things that don’t really matter.
The play was close. The umpire basically said “you don’t get to challenge because I say so”. That’s an issue.
Replay it 1000x and the runner would still be safe. Whining and complaining about a bad call won’t change that.
That’s what it looked like yeah, TO BILL BRASKY!
vitello sucks so bad lol
Everything should be reviewable except maybe if the call relies on an audio component like a foul tip.
Also, that’s not a push. But you also CAN push a guy off the bag if you make it look like an accident. Kinda.
Looked like a 5 year old being sent to timeout
“Oh, he definitely pushed him.” ~ Kent Hrbek
Looking forward to the Jomboy on this, hopefully.
Is there any chance he’s fired after this year? He’s been awful so far and is so clearly treading water at the MLB level.
Yeah, absolutely, if not before then. It’s clear this experiment isn’t working right.
Vitello’s doing a shitty job, but this play isn’t really an example of that, the ump made a nonsense call, good coaches in that spot will absolutely argue that and probably get tossed.
My comment was just a general statement. I didn’t even click the link in the post.
Truly a heinously bad call made worst by Mike Esterbrooks acting like a massive bitch. That was suspension worthy, that guy should not be on a big league field.
Yeah send him back to college.
Oh, you’re not talking about Vitello? My bad.
