I’m really curious to see how his HOF ballots go. He has a lot going for him (WS MVP, Gold Gloves, Silver Sluggers, 1 team, seems well-respected), but we’ll see if he or Realmuto get in. Salvy’s stats are not as good as I thought they would be, but he is one of the best of his generation.
He might end up being the last ever vibe vs numbers guy being put up with how baseball’s going.

Considering he has a career .261 batting average and .452 Slugging as a catcher, his low OBP can easily just be chalked up to “he doesn’t walk” and if that keeps someone out of the HoF then the HoF is fucking stupid and should be burned to the ground i’m not even joking.
Yes being really bad at one of the core aspects of the game is a good reason to keep someone out of the hall of fame. He has a 103 OPS+. He is not a hall of famer. You are delusional.

If Posada, Kendall, Parrish, McCann, and Martin weren’t even close to the hall of fame, Perez isnt either. The traditional voter’s stance seems pretty clear based on that group getting zero support, and anyone more sabermetrically progressive than that understands things like OBP or framing.
Some of those guys should probably be in as well. Who cares about the past? People voted differently then. Circumstances were different, the voting pool is different and will continue to be different.
I don’t base my opinions based on precedent.
Buster Posey is probably going to make it in this year even though his career was almost identical to Thurman Munson who didn’t make it in. People change, things change, i’m going to change!

Eh it kind of is. Pudge Rodriguez barely walked and that didn’t stop him from snapping necks and cashing checks.
Pudge Rodrigues has 68 career bWAR. Salvy is at 35 bWAR, which is less than Harold Baines

I’d say Pudge was a much better hitter. His slash line is 30 points higher practically across the board.
Obviously he was. Pudge is the best catcher of all time in my opinion.
The point of the comparison was to point out that if Salvy shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame because of his low OBP, then the same could be said about Pudge basically who had a low OBP for a lot of seasons relative to his BA.
If inducted, he’d have the lowest career WAR of any player in the live-ball era besides relievers. He’s over 3.0 behind Harold Baines.

No. Hall of Fame. Of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum fame. Where he’ll get a plaque of his face there after more than 75% of BBWAA voters vote for him, which will happen.
