Jose Caballero gets called for a pitch clock violation for looking up at 9 seconds. He claims the umpire is picking on him.
Ump was anxiously waiting to call that.
You hear the other one say “they called us before the game” too
Jomboy did a breakdown on Caballero doing this against the Jays a while back, and as someone who’s not a Yankees fan and doesn’t watch many of their games, it alerted me to the fact that this is just what Caballero does. I know Jomboy gets mocked a lot, but some of their videos are incredibly informative. When the benches cleared the other day cause Caballero did this, I immediately thought back to that video. I’m guessing after that incident the other day, the Pirates probably called the league to complain and maybe the umps got new directives.
People mock Jomboy? I feel like his videos are always pretty solid.
I watch a lot of his videos and that’s the first I’ve heard of anyone ‘mocking’ him… The only negative comments that I see pop up on a regular basis are about his advertising partnerships / sponsors, like Draft Kings & Seat Geek.
Jomboy did a video on this even back when caballero was on the mariners. He was the batter facing Cole the night of the finger wag incident.
Wait… who mocks Jomboy?
Are people mocking Jomboy? Im genuinely curious, what’s the reason?
I don’t know if people mock Jomboy, but I have heard the complaint that they’re Yankee homers.
He’s been doing it both games this series. Waiting until the very last second to look up to try, and mess with the pitchers.
The first game especially, they knew Ashcroft likes to pitch fast so they were intentionally trying to wait
Edit: just to be clear. As annoying as it is, as the rules are written he shouldn’t get in trouble as long as they look up in time, but I can understand how frustrating it’d be.
This isn’t something new that he’s been doing. They asked for clarification a month ago from the league on what they can and can’t do, and it is allowed.
Can a pitcher throw a pitch at eight seconds? If so, maybe that would get him to look up at the pitcher sooner.
The pitcher needs to wait until he has eye contact with a batter to throw and the batter needs to establish eye contact with at least eight seconds remaining
That’s why pitchers keep getting annoyed about him doing this, he’s taking their ability to control the pace of an at bat away
Pitcher can’t come set until the batter acknowledges the pitcher. That’s like the whole reason pitchers are annoyed by this.
Pitcher cant come set until 8 seconds batter has to be ready by 8. If there are pitchers trying to quick pitch, batters should be allowed to do whatever they want until 8 seconds he can do cartwheels as long as hes in that box feet set looking at the pitcher and ready to take a pitch by 8 seconds.
Not until eye contact is made with the batter. Thats what Cabby is doing, in the box but not making eye contact until the last second.
Yes hes satisfying the rule thats alk that matters. The pitcher then has a whole 8 seconds to decide when to start their windup
He’s testing the limit of a rule that is hard for the umpires to call in an attempt to mess with pitchers. When you test limits, sometimes it comes back to bite you. Crying about being picked on is obnoxious, he could just engage the pitcher like every other batter in the league
He was upset because he was within the rules
He’s doing what yes legally allowed to do. And it’s no different than what pitchers do when they come set and just hold for an indeterminate amount of time to mess with the batter.
Yeah no one talking about that part. Pitchers dictate the pace and the moment they can’t, get all pissy. It’s the same as the whole unwritten rule bullshit. All of those rules are cause pitchers are babies
He did it during a jays game too
He’s waiting until the last [8] seconds to look up, like he’s allowed to under the rules. Pitchers have 8+ seconds to come set and pitch. That’s the rule. Nothing he did was against the rules or even unfair. Pitcher had all of the time that was supposed to be allotted to him.
Maybe I’m mistaken, but I thought the home plate ump didn’t watch for the clock violations by batters/pitchers. I thought someone else is watching it and buzzes him if it needs to be enforced.
The ump should be looking at the pitcher/ball/zone not the clock
Nothing can legally happen until the batter is ready. That is why we are looking at them and the clock first. Then the pitcher is on the clock.
There’s no reason to be looking anywhere else until the pitcher starts their motion.
Balks. There’s other umpires but they all have a responsibility to call balks
We can see multiple things at once. Plus, there’s very few balks that can occur before the pitcher comes set, which can’t happen until the batter is ready.
Just great on field mics to be able to hear all that
Right under home plate like always. So you can hear the crack of the bat better
There are also parabolic dish mics by the foul walls behind the home plate pointed directly at the home plate.
Also appreciate the booth not talking over it
What does “you don’t get to do 3 or 4 seconds on the box anymore” even mean?
He’s making up his own rules and not following the rule book
He’s doing what the League told him to, not really making it up himself. You can hear one of the umps say “they called us about this”
The league told him to enforce a rule that isn’t there? That’s concerning. They should probably just change to rule to what they want it to be.
Depending on your definition of ‘rule’, the league does this all the time. There are many “points of emphasis” communicated to players and umpires that are in practice additional rules, not clarifications on enforcement as the term implies. The “Scherzer Rule” itself that’s often entangled in Caballero discussions is not in the Official Baseball Rules, but a “point of emphasis”.
However, this case where the umpires seem to have heard something that the players are lost on is much more rare, though also not unheard of. Something similar happened here.
If the league told him to do this then the Yankees/Caballero should probably have heard about it prior to them calling it this way. If the league notified the umps and didn’t notify the teams about a rule that doesn’t exist, that’s…certainly a choice.
You assume they didn’t. Plenty of times we’ve seen players/coaches “not get the memo” when it’s first sent out, trying to test the limits of what is or is not actually gonna be focused on in the details.
Edit for clarity: that is assuming a memo was sent regarding this issue. It’s also possible we’re misinterpreting his words and he just means Caballero can’t step into the box and wait to the very last second anymore, which for sure HAS been discussed but without a formal rule change is still up to a some amount of interpretation by the umpires
I think the ump is saying the pirates complained about caballero, not that the league called and said to change the rule when caballero is batting.
Major League umpires don’t just start interpreting the rules how they want without heavy communication from the league, their union, and the umpire directors. There is absolutely zero chance the Pirates complained to them about gaming the system they chose to look for it and call it without heavy discussion from the league office.
It is a wild interpretation that “they called us about this” automatically means that the league has decided to change how the rule works and only told these specific umps but not the Yanks who it most affects. Who is upvoting this???
Or, in Cabellero’s own words, ‘they’re picking on him’.
Unironically.
Ok lol I always knew about the eight second rule didn’t know if there was something else I was missing
I recall there was a rule/point of emphasis a few seasons ago (maybe before the pitch clock?) that batters couldn’t step out of the box unless they had swung at the pitch beforehand, maybe that’s what they’re referring to?
I’m wondering if the ump believed the clock had run down to 8 before caballero looked up, annoying you can’t see the pitch clock anywhere on the broadcast
Pitch clock is on the scorebug, just very small. As it switches from 9 to 8, Caballero looks up
There’s a clear still of him looking up while it’s at 9 seconds
A few years ago there was the “Contreras rule” but that’s a little different. What Contreras was doing was looking at the pitcher while he had one foot slightly outside of the box, hoping the pitcher would come set and then have a violation for coming set before batter was ready. But that’s not what happened here, Caballero wasn’t “pretending” to be ready, he just took until 8 seconds to get ready. You clearly hear the ump say “that’s what the told us” or “they called us about this” so I really need someone from MLB to explain this
This isnt Nam! This is baseball. There are rules!
[deleted]
Watch from the start of the clip. Caballero intentionally stares at the pitch clock, looks away, and then looks back at the clock to time his ready stance to give the pitcher the minimum allotted time to release his pitches.
What “you don’t get to do 3 or 4 seconds on the box anymore” likely really means is that if are are taking 3-4 seconds to ready yourself and prepare for the pitch they don’t really care. If you take 3-4 seconds and that time is pretty clearly only spent to take time away from the pitcher they are going to care and start calling it a violation.
It’s a grey area most new rules changes have to filter through because players will always find ways to game the system. For example in the KBO they instituted ABS on every single pitch last season. Essentially Umps’s don’t call pitches anymore. Every ball or strike is done by ABS and instantly relayed to the home plate umpire who then calls it. To game the systems catchers starting diving wildly out of the box on strikes down the middle because if I’m a batter and I see the catcher dropping to his knees and falling way of the zone in my peripherals then it’s going to affect my read of the pitch and I’m probably going to let it go. Did the original KBO rules forbid it? No, was it bush leaguesque and need to be addressed? Yup.
I don’t see the grey area. You need to be set by 8 seconds. That’s crystal clear. If he’s set by then he’s fine
If there’s a minimum amount of time, and he’s allowing the minimum, how is he taking time from the pitcher and why would it be a violation?
Pitchers abuse the time clock for their advantage constantly by icing the hitters and refusing to throw the pitch until the clock is down to 1 second. How is this any different?
He intentionally stands in the box without looking at the pitcher. Nobody likes that he does this except him and their fans. He has stated in interviews that he does it to piss people off.
What rule is this breaking?
… and? He’s in the box. He looked up in time. Pitcher can pitch. I’m both a Yankee-hater and a batter-hater (I’m a former pitcher) and complaining about this is nuts.
Idk if this hitter or another but they get in the box and do all their preparing with their head down, waiting u til the last second to engage with the pitcher. Jim it has done a breakdown and the umpires continue to call fouls when there is not a rule being broken. The batter needs to be looking at the pitcher at 8 seconds, which this batter very clearly is. The umpires, for some reason, think that doing your other pre-swing stuff with your head down is against the rules.
They have talked to him before. So they probably talked to him before the game saying you can’t swing your bat with your head down until the last second, none of this 3-4 second stuff.
But he’s not breaking any rule. So he should continue to do it. And the league should come out with a statement that the umpires were wrong, or they are changing the rule mid-season.

This was called incorrectly btw
I always get downvoted when I say penalty for a pitch clock violation is too harsh. Each batter gets one timeout per PA, so If a batter has a timeout left (idk if it applies to this video) they should just lose the timeout instead of going straight to an automatic strike.
This shit is gonna happen in the playoffs eventually and that’s when they’ll soften the rule
That’s a pretty good idea actually
Yeah i think so too
I disagree. The rules are reasonable enough when called correctly. Caballero lives at the edge of the rules and it works for him 99% of the time. We don’t need to change the rules just because one guy pushes the envelope. If you move the line he’ll just push it even further.
To be clear I’m not a hater, I find his mind games funny. He umps screwed up today judging by the screenshots posted in the thread.
The classic “One guy spoils it for the rest” issue.
I feel like then hitters would really toe the line. Every time a pitch clock violation occurs it stops the game, might be counterproductive
If every batter can do this one time every PA, it would definitely start getting abused
They already take 1 timeout per at bat
Very well put mr Phillies fan
Yeah, like I said in the title, he looked up at 9 seconds. The cutoff is 8.
[removed]
Did he create his own rule?
indeed they did
Ump Dredd
He’s not Judge Judy and Executioner!
I heard this too. Basically his argument was that he can’t just stand in the box and not look at the pitcher because being in the box means you are ready to hit. Except that’s not how the pitch clock rule is supposed to work. I think this is the same crew that has given Cabbie issues with it in the past too but I’d need to check.
If thats the rule then shouldn’t the pitcher be able to pitcher once hes in the box if hes ready to hit?
No because by rule if he isn’t looking at the pitcher yet then he isn’t ready to hit even if he’s in the box.
But thats mot what the ump said.
Right and that’s the problem here
Enforce not create rules.
The rule is that you have to look up at the pitcher before 8 seconds, unless you’re Jose Caballero, in which case you have to look up at the pitcher sooner than that but there is no guidance as to how much sooner than that.
He’s like a human balk
You can’t be doin a balk in the box
So a pitch clock violation is when…
It’s a classic “no way Jose”
Aaron Boone talked to the umpires between innings because as the broadcast says MLB gave the Yankees last month the actual rule. I expect the Yankees to ask for more clarification from MLB
MLB gave the Yankees last month the actual rule
Huh? The rule is pretty clear. What clarification was needed?
Cabby was ready in the box before 8 seconds. That’s it. Whatever else he does before that doesn’t matter. He’s allowed to game the clock and everyone knows that he does it without violating the rule. The ump was plainly wrong in this case.
They clarified that umpires who made this exact call in previous games got it wrong. Some good that did if other umpires are going to keep making the same call.
Oh wow. Interesting.
Love that Cabby’s antics annoy the umps as much as the other team, but it’s total bullshit that they’re trying to make up their own rules to nail him specifically.
It wouldn’t be the first time, it won’t be the last time that some player in a sport gets his own rule.
The rule states “Don’t ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you’ve been, ever, for any reason whatsoever.”
I noticed he was wearing a tweed jacket… so I said, I feel the need. The need. for tweed.
It was called a couple times on him in May and June and, like this one, no one could really figure out why. So Aaron Boone consulted the MLB.
The main point of clarification was that they wanted Caballero to stop stepping out of the box when he looked up and the pitcher was engaged early and just let the umpires handle it, which is fair but still doesn’t explain why he’s ever called (except for one that was actually borderline too late) since that only happens when the pitcher is called. The exact words by the broadcast was that Caballero was “doing a couple things”, but I don’t believe they elaborated on any more than the one above.
I think there was also earlier mention that Caballero would sometimes look up in the box without being visibly alert/ready and then look back down to bait the pitcher into coming set, and he was told he could no longer do that after stepping in the box. But I don’t remember the source on that.
Caballero would sometimes look up in the box without being visibly alert/ready and then look back down to bait the pitcher into coming set, and he was told he could no longer do that after stepping in the box. But I don’t remember the source on that.
This is explained well by Close Call Sports in this video. Basically the Contreras Rule means that you can’t give a “fake look” to fool the pitcher into coming set.
Great video.
Ooh, now batters can balk
This exact thing happened last month. An umpire went rogue and the Yankees asked the league for clarification.
Edit:spelling
That’s odd. Umpires are supposed to be blue
Lmao thank you
I hate it when umpires go rouge
Cabby was ready in the box before 8 seconds. That’s it. Whatever else he does before that doesn’t matter.
This isn’t entirely correct. The “Contreras Rule” requires that the batter can’t give a ‘fake look’ toward the pitcher with one or both feet in the batter’s box. Obviously not an issue in this case (because Cabellero learned about this rule earlier in the season) but something to keep in mind.
the constant cuts to Santana in the bullpen were killing me lmao
Are we watching the same clip?
I was watching the Pirates feed and it was cutting to Santana around the time when this happened
I totally get not liking Caballero for this. But the ump calling this because he doesn’t like it is objectively insane. I also get not liking the rule, but for the ump of all people to ignore the rules to make a point is crazy
Caballero followed the rule so close to the book that everyone is annoyed. I guess it’s like in football if you wait until 1 second left every play to snap?
Pitchers will wait until there’s 1 second left to start their motion, which is completely within the rules and not a crime.
And, notably, completely uncontroversial. People getting upset at a hitter for doing the exact same thing is so bizarre to me
And they also gary their timing up all the time. Some times they’ll wait to 1 second is left. On the next pitch they throw immediately after the batter makes eye contract. Then they throw after 4 seconds, then at 1 then quick again. They constantly vary the timing specifically to mess with batters. It’s wild that anyone is upset when 1 single batter returns the favor.
Which is actually allowed to this day lol
Even worse, there’s the phantom “heartbeat” after 00 where the ball gets snapped ALL THE TIME and it never gets called for delay of game
That’s intentional. The ref is supposed to stare down the clock until he sees 0, then move his eyes to the center to see if he’s snapping the ball yet. The half a second to look is built-in to the rules as valid time to snap the ball.
Yeah but NFL did sort of crack down on it. It was a point of emphasis a couple seasons ago where the QBs were getting mad that the refs were calling at exactly 00 instead -01.
It’s like a cop pulling you over for going exactly the speed limit
“I can do whatever I want” - Ron Kulpa
I get that you’re technically correct, but have you considered that it disadvantages my least favorite team, which makes it actually a great call?
Ump got paid off by Dennis Santana
Tell Caballero. I want him to know it was me.
No way Santana would do that. He’s about to be unemployed he needs his money.
Meanwhile the pitcher comes set before Caballero gets sets too. This is literally a textbook pitch clock violation on the pitcher but they want to make an example of Caballero.
I thought this only mattered if he begun his motion? I thought the pitcher could be set prior to the batter looking up, but couldn’t initiate any kind of motion or quick pitch prior?
No the pitcher can’t come set before the batter is ready (the Scherzer rule). The batter must be ready before the clock hits 8 seconds. That’s sort of the whole crux of what Caballero tries to do. He tries to bait the pitcher into coming set before he looks up and he looks up with exactly 9 seconds left each time.
So what Caballero is doing is functionally shortening the pitch clock to 8 seconds for the pitcher while he dicks around?
I can see why pitchers and umps dislike it.
But that’s allowed. The pitcher wants batters set early so they can dick around shaking off pitches making the hitter sit set for longer (you see hitters regularly take a timeout when they’ve been set for a long time without a pitch) or get them uncomfortable with the pitching cadence. Caballero is just reversing this back on pitchers by removing their control of pitching pace
I mean, people complain about foul baiting in basketball and soccer. Maybe it is “allowed” but it isn’t good for baseball to have guys trying to game that rule so much.
That’s exactly what he’s doing and that’s exactly why people don’t like it
The pitch clock violation rules here list nothing about being set prior.
https://www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/pitch-timer
I was able to find this.
I think this sub needs to read the rules themselves. The Yankees talk about the rule for pitcher-batter it seems on a weekly basis. Caballero did everything correct in this AB. There is a screen grab literally above where he’s engaged at 9 seconds
I agree that he was looking up at the 9 second mark and this shouldn’t have been called, I’m just more curious about this set position for the Pitcher now
Caballero plays these games all the time with pitchers. He has been called on this stuff in the past. The engagement and 8 second rule is for player safety so the pitchers can’t just fastball instantly which could hit a player who wasn’t paying attention. Caballero taking advantage of a rule designed for safety reasons wrinkles a lot of people and MLB has already talked with the Yanks about this.
MLB has already talked to the Yanks about this (and confirmed that they are correct and the umpires/pitchers he is annoying are wrong.* (You forgot part of your explanation.)
Not necessarily. We don’t see the full lead up to it but if he has one or two feet in the box and looks at the pitcher the pitcher can come set.
https://youtu.be/ZYawFNBmpQw?is=pu3c1gAMkfrSc-1L
I mean… is the rule 8 seconds? Cabby was bound to get got at some point but this does kinda feel like an Ump Show special. That said, maybe don’t watch a lollipop right down the middle 0-2 next pitch lol
could have missed the zone by a foot and I bet the ump punches him out
Then denies the challenge
We were out of challenges as usual
Jazz 4 for 22 or something on the season
The rule is 8 seconds, and he was ready in the box and looked up when it turned to 9 seconds. Completely within the rules.
Umpires intentionally not calling rules correctly because they find a player annoying is not a good thing
Any prop bets on a batter induced pitch clock violation for this game?
I think Cabby’s got a point. He games the clock but doesn’t violate the rules. He was ready in the box by 8 seconds. What he does before that doesn’t matter at all, and it also doesn’t matter if it annoys the umpire. It’s well within the rules.
Umps don’t get to fucking pick and choose which rule they don’t like. Caballero was clearly engaged before the 8 seconds.
I agree with Boone on this one. I hate it. But fuck man. You can’t just make up rules as we go. Play the fucking game.
“You’re picking on me!” Fucking LOL
This might be the stupidest shit in all sports smh
Didn’t watch any World Cup? The flopping antics are so much more ridiculous to watch.
Jose “Malicious Compliance” Caballero
He’s literally a savage in the box
Cabellero is notorious for playing games with the pitch clock and intentionally delaying the pitcher from getting into their ready stance. Not a comment on the validity of his approach, just saying he knows what he’s doing and the umps (and opposing players) have been annoyed about it specifically.
Team tag checks out…
Complain to the league. Rules are black and white and Cabby isnt breaking them.
They have once already
“You’re picking on me. You’re picking on me. You’re picking on me.” What is this conversation!? LMAO
You’ve never heard someone angrily repeat themselves to be heard because several people (ump+Boone+Cabby) are talking over each other? He’s just the one the mics were picking up clearly.
They told him 8 seconds was too late. You have to be set at 9 seconds and engaged.
Now they’re telling him 9 seconds is too late.
Pitchers use the pitch clock to their advantage. No reason hitters can’t, too.
I can see how because he’s the only player doing it, he’s making the job harder on the umps and they don’t want to be policing if hes looking forward at exactly 8 seconds? Where every other player they are just making sure they are in the box ready to receive. Why are not more players doing this if it’s allowed?
Crew also called a balk on Cole when the pitch clock stopped working. Gonna be a long day.
I feel bad that Yankees fans have to defend this bush league nonsense (admittedly im sure I would do the same if he was on my team) because irrespective of the technical rule - everyone with a brain understands this was not the intention and the whole thing is stupid and annoying. We’ve had more than a 100 years of professional baseball and when you get in the batters box - you need to be ready to hit
I mean I’m personally kind of over it already. I’d rather he focus on actually hitting the ball and getting his OBP over .300 than trying to game the pitch clock as much as possible
This is where I’m at. It’s an offshoot of “you’re not wrong, you’re just an asshole.” No he’s not breaking any rules but he’s clearly doing it just to be annoying.
This reminds me a lot of underhanded serving in tennis. Is it against the rules? No. It’s allowed. Is it intentionally done just to be a little shit and trick your opponent? Yes.
I saw a good quote that, I think, applies here too: “The underhanded serve occupies a unique space in tennis: it is a bridge between the rigid rules of the USTA and the fluid, often subjective world of sportsmanship.”
Or, as you aptly said…bush league nonsense.
Also, I would bet he’s been on the right side of this little game where he looked up at 7 seconds, and wasn’t called for a violation.
Cabby is innocent even if he is a big bad Yankee now
in a perfect world the umpire gets fined for that. that wasn’t a missed call. that was “i’m sick of you cutting it so close every pitch making my job harder so let me give you a reason to stop”. absolutely egregious
It’s one of those “gamesmanship” rules that is a gray area for me.
On one hand, the rules don’t say how you have to acknowledge the pitcher by the 8 second mark other than you have to be ready by that point. The spirit of the rule is pace of play, and with that it is succeeding.
However, when people start to weaponize the rule for a perceived benefit is when it gets in that grey area.
When someone steps into the box, the expectation is “okay, game on let’s get this show going”. Instead, Caballero steps in and stares at the ground or at the clock in an effort to play mind games like “I’m here, but not ready yet, you’re gonna wait on me.”
It’s within the rules, but one of those obvious malicious compliance type ways. I believe it was Mad Max who got dinged for doing the opposite during the rules inception for letting the clock wind down to 01 despite a hitter being obviously ready, so why any difference for a hitter?
Both arguments have merit and I find myself conflicted on which is the right way to resolve this. I want to say “stop being a bitch, step in the box and face the pitcher.” But at the same time, this is a professional league with millions of dollars on the line. If the hitter can gain a perceived advantage within the current written rules, then why would they not take that advantage?
It was funny the first couple times I saw it but now I realize every at bat for Caballero turns the game into a circus.
Then pitchers can get called for starting their delivery with one second left on the clock, right?
Let’s not lose sight of the most important part: Caballero has an OBP of .299
I would really prefer Caballero just stop trying to game the system in the first place, but that doesn’t mean the umps get to make up rules just because they’re annoyed by him.
You are 100% correct. This hate to Caballero is weird. This is on the ump for being a little bitch baby
All players game the system or try to, why is this somehow worse?
Does he feel that he can’t hit major league pitching without doing this? Get in the box ,and lets go.
this was a dumb sequence that doesnt matter much that i appreciated for a free stranded runner lol
it also appears to have not even been right by the letter of the rules (called at 9) so yeah
big dumb
Manfred needs to address this because he’s going to get thrown at by someone eventually
Not sure why a pitcher would throw at him when the umps are officiating it in such a way that only buys them free strikes
Always something with this guy….
it’s always this guy
Call me crazy but maybe the umpires should call the rules as written instead of making them up as they go along.
Nobody likes this guy. Maybe him and Josh Naylor could be roomies
Tf
Dude’s a career .232 hitter. I don’t think the constant pitch clock gamesmanship is helping him the way he wants it to.
This is on him for constantly making this an issue.
This umpire team is a joke.
They called him on an obvious check swing the previous AB. Caba is following the rule, and this idiot just made up his own.
They absolutely are picking on him.
Not to mention they called Cole for a balk because not one umpire noticed that the pitch clock went out.
Caballero has really become a nuisence. Seems like this is a daily occurrence for this dude
I’m not sure the issue with this one, but you can hear them say that the league called the crew this morning about this exact situation, apparently. Cabby keeps trying to skirt the rules (someone linked the Close Call Sports video about him baiting the pitchers with the fake look-the Contreras Rule-to get them to violate the Scherzer Rule), and I’m sure MLB is just sick and tired of him and made a call today since there was just an issue the other night to disallow what he’s doing. So the umpires aren’t making up rules, you can clearly hear the ump tell Boone that they had a call with the league and discussed it pregame with them
Literally what is this dude’s problem, he’s the only one in the league who can’t seem to grasp this aspect of the game
He’s very clearly a tool.
Caballero’s shenanigans go against the spirit of the rule, and imo is drawing too much attention to himself away from the efforts of the team, so I’m rooting for the umps to keep f-ing with him
Maybe look at the fucking pitcher asshole
He did asshole haha
Yankeses Fans: Wtf
Reasonable Baseball Fans: Wtf
Hate the Yankess so whatever bad happens to them, good: Good
He’s good. Close call sports explained it last time. Once he’s in the box and looks towards the pitcher (even if he puts his head back down) that counts as engaged and ready to hit. But he never looked at the pitcher first, just the umpire and then down. The umps need to get this right. I hope Lindsay covers this
Good. That act is tedious. You can tell all the opposing pitchers dislike it.
That ump is always in the middle of bs he starts 🙄
