As someone with past testicular trauma, I kinda understand this.
The first hour or so, it’s just uncomfortable and sore. I assume adrenaline of a professional athlete negates the discomfort too. Then, the worry of “oh…that shouldn’t be hard”. Finally, it’s ER, ultrasound, and diagnosis/surgery.
A lot of injuries take a bit to really hit. I once broke my arm diving for a softball, thought it was ok and maybe it just dislocated for a sec, kinda squeezed it back in line, put my glove back on. Didn’t have a ball hit to me for a while, it was uncomfortable but not terrible, decided to sit out the rest of the game and wait for my roommate to finish (we drove together). Went home, ignored it for 3 or 4 hours, and eventually was like dude I think I should go to hospital.
ER was like bruh… compound fracture, this shit is broken in five places. Anyway, there’s metal in there now.
Yeesh. Are you cleared for push/pull exercises or do you do static things like holds and planks?
It was a long time ago now, 10-ish years. I still play sports including softball and am totally fine. Have adult men’s league playoffs tonight. It healed well (thanks orthopedic medicine!) and I did my PT properly. Regained full range of motion. Honestly, the post-surgery pain from them stretching every ligament out of the way to install the plate was WAY worse than the broken bones.
For me it was a fully ruptured Achilles. Turns out, you CAN walk on one if it’s higher up and then the tendon gets tighter and makes recovery longer. My parents always said learn by doing…
