Phillie fans forgot they were Phillie fans in the same way Realmuto forgot how to run the bases. I’m just glad a child wasn’t puked on. A win for Philly in the end, to be sure.

I was at the game on Monday, can confirm there were a ton of Dodgers fans. Maybe not 50%, but at least 30% where I was sitting (back of the bottom level behind home plate)

Of course McCarthy can’t understand who made the only mistake here. It’s not a baserunning blunder to go on contact there. He immediately deflects blame from the veteran JT to criticize the rookie Crawford, who did nothing wrong.
Yah I think someone is the post conference said you usually gamble with those types of play. That happened according to plan but sometimes, things just don’t work out.
JT thinking that Crawford could make it back to 3rd so him sprinting to 2nd (which is what JT said in the post game) was the lone error in this.
If the third baseman bobbles it, or he needs to take a step or two to either side, it becomes a close play at the plate and worthy of the gamble. If you don’t run on contact and that bobble happens, you can’t score. Forcing a throw to the plate on a play where you’re safe? It effectively ends the game.
McCarthy has been doing this for 30 years. Guaranteed if it was Harper instead of Crawford doing the same thing, he’d only criticize JT
I think Crawford not just going home was off script tho. But realmuto should’ve just stood on 3rd.
Crawford 100% had a base running blunder too on this play cmon man.

They both screwed up. If Crawford’s gonna go on a ground ball he’s gotta go on contact. He went for home super late.
At that point, he should have kept going home and take the out. It would have caused less confusion for JT.
Upon rewatch, Crawford was too far off the bag in the first place with the 3B that close. He would’ve been tagged out had he returned.
The only thing I can think of is that he froze on the ground ball, which fine, not a contact play. Then thought that he couldn’t get back to third in time if Muncy decided to try and tag him so he went home.

Did JT not realize Mookie was covering 3B on the rundown? Why would he think Crawford was going to beat the rundown? MLB rundowns are probably 99.5% outs. I showed the highlight to my 10U team after practice last night to demonstrate not what to do and also to let them know that even Major Leaguers get TOOTBLAN’d.

Totally agree on the level of boneheaded by JT. But, I also was baffled that Crawford left third. No one was being forced to move. Worst case you stay put and end up 2nd and 3rd with two outs.
But since Crawford did go and get caught it made it all ridiculously stupid. The moment he’s caught get back to second.

He went on contact because the Dodgers had most of their infielders playing back and conceding the run, the ball just happened to go to the one infielder that wasn’t playing back
