10 scoring titles is absurd.
It’s one of those records that’s never getting broken due to ever increasing talent pool of scorers.

For reference the only dude that comes close is wilt with 7 and then AI and KD(considered some of the greatest scorers ever) with 4.

Finals MVPs because you have to win the Finals 6 times to even have a shot at it.

That said I think both records are fairly untouchable because high-level scoring is so much more common now. Teams have too much skill these days to allow one player to dominate scoring like that, it’s not a good idea in today’s league.

Definitely should focus on the scoring record here since if they awarded Finals MVPs when he played, Bill Russell would have had more than Jordan.

There hasn’t been a three-peat in 25 years. Someone winning 6 FMVPs in the modern era, let alone 6 championships would be insane.

But the scoring title is more likely given that you can achieve this award without having to be on a championship caliber team

10 scoring titles. How many times have people said Kevin Durant is a top 10 or 15 player because he is the perfect scorer, unstoppable scorer. How many scoring titles does he have? Just 4. James Harden 3. LeBron has 1.

No one is even close right now and there really isn’t anyone on the horizon who has the potential to do it.

Two 3-peat FMVPs is crazy.

I think his greatest achievement was leading a team of four foot players who would never make an NBA roster to victory against a team that had the talent of Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues.

In the modern game I’m going to go with six finals MVPs the league is way deeper now. There’s a lot more parity and the European infusion of talent has changed the game

People don’t like to admit this, but Jordan did play in a expansion semi-watered down era. He also benefited from never really having to beat bird (which he could not do)Celtics he luckily got magic when he was basically broken and beat the Pistons when they were old

You can make the argument that if Larry and Magic stay healthy. A couple more years Michael probably has a few less titles

Teams cannot stay together long enough anymore to get to that number of finals, let alone win all of them.

A few others for fun, 10 times leading the playoffs in scoring average. Jerry West is closest with 4 but the league had less than half as many teams. Crazy.

35ppg and a DPOY is nuts but I could see Wemby doing that in an ideal season. The year Giannis won MVP/DPOY was close he just played 10 less minutes a night.

But this one is hard to picture. From 1990 until he retired in 1998, he never lost 3 games in a row. 500 regular season games and 126 playoff games. Imagine the kind of command you have to have in the locker room to get that kind of commitment from the team. Best ever. Total psycho.

He was the top scorer in the league every time he was eligible from 1986-1998. If you make it total points and not PPG, it goes back to his rookie year (1984).

Six Finals MVPs feels harder because you need greatness, health, elite teammates, and a dynasty all at the same time.

The idea that he’s so legendary that he could literally punch teammates in the face and have many other countless tales of him being an asshole, and everyone sits there and justifies it. That’s the true achievement.

10 scoring titles is more unreachable than 6 Finals MVPs. Wilt has 7. Kobe has 2. Harden has 3. Durant has 4.

The longevity to do that 10 times is more insane than building a team that can make the Finals a bunch of times and give you a chance at Finals MVP.

Both difficult but 10 scoring titles more difficult because league more competitive now. Was not nearly as much competition back then.

6 FMVPS not only do you need a consistent championship caliber team. You have to get to the finals,You have to Win, and you have to be the best player on the team pretty obviously. Because sometimes it won’t go to you if you and the 2nd best are too close in talent

Compared to 10 scoring titles which is harder as well you also have to do it 4 more times. But your team essentially doesn’t matter, nor does winning. You just have to score as much as you can.

With the 2nd Apron, the League is set up now for parity - Adam Silver wants new teams in the Finals every year. Getting 6 Rings (let alone 6 Finals MVPs) is nearly impossible today.

6 FMVPs cuz no one’s winning 6 again as the best player. Lebron jumped from superstar team to superstar team he and only got 4 in 21+ seasons.

6 Finals MVP. We’re seeing record parity in the NBA and the current salary cap rules is making it basically impossible to keep together teams for more than a few seasons.

The Finals MVP since it is almost impossible to even make seven finals, let alone be the best player on your team and win seven finals. Russell could have done it if there was a FMVP and otherwise, really only LeBron, Kareem, Magic, Kobe, and West, could even have a shot. To think about how hard that is, even if LeBron won all four titles and FMVP with The Heat, that would still only have given him six, he would have needed to beat the Warriors a second time or the Spurs with the Cavs, etc.

The not Wilt scoring has maxed at 4 which is still pretty far from six but at least you can see a path where a high volume scoring player just stays on a bad team for their career because they like getting a big contract and winning the the scoring title and don’t really care about winning

10 scoring titles. To put that into perspective, KD is one of the greatest scorers ever (imo greatest post-Jordan) and has 4. SGA is 28 years old and has 1. LeBron with 4 FMVPs has come closer to Jordan’s 6 FMVPs than any scorer has to MJ’s 10 scoring titles.

A scoring title requires a regular season grind. Obviously, Finals MVP awards are very hard, but can still be achieved by players in their late 30s in a compressed series. And advances in sports medicine have increased the longevity of players.

Neither is likely to be tied much less broken, but it’s much more conceivable for someone to be the best scorer for a decade than for someone to win 6 championships + outperform their team each time.

It’s not just a matter of titles, it’s a matter of frightening superiority. And that’s in relation to players who would easily be MVPs today.

Finals MVPs, by far. That is dependent on so many factors entirely out of a player’s control and it requires so much luck even just to make the number of Finals necessary to have a chance at this.

Hear me out, I do think the 10 scoring titles is more impressive, but the chance that you get an elite scorer on a bad team that stays there on a max contract is much higher than being able to field a championship-winning team for 6 years in the prime of your career.

Probably the 6 Finals MVPs. You need a lot of pieces to come together to win 6 titles, and you can’t afford to let up at all. With the scoring titles, you can win that on your talent alone, so long as you don’t get hurt and have the green light.

Wilt is 70% of the way to 10 scoring titles and LeBron is 67% of the way to 6 Finals MVPs, so superficially, they look equally difficult to accomplish.

I think winning defensive player of the year and leading the league in scoring titles (+MVP) in the same year may be potentially harder to break. Only one player ever has won both and not in the same year…

Both are unlikely, but if Spurs become a Dynasty and win a bunch, Wemby could get quite a few of those with how he affects both sides and is young.

Scoring titles is also hard but the team impact is much lower, you can get scoring titles on the worst team in the league and them being bad won’t gatekeep it.

Final mvp requires you being on a good enough team to win a ring, as they just don’t give fmvps to losing team even if the best player in the finals was on the losing team.

And with how hard much has shifted in the modern league there’s more parity making it even harder to get 6 finals, let along 6 finals mvps.

It’s the scoring title plus champion (FMVP) in the same year, for 6 times. Rest of the NBA in 77 years did 3 times: Jabbar, Shark, SGA. BAA also has 3: Mikan (twice), Fulks.
