I think that depends on where you set the bar. He will never be an all-star again, but he’s a great shooter and a good passer and 32 isn’t old. He’s always been crap on defense, but if the hip injury has healed we might be talking about the guy that played in Phoenix, and that was definitely someone that could help us off the bench. The problem with that guy wasn’t that he was bad; it was how much money he was making.

We’ve already got Conley on a minimum for a vet presence guard.
Plus we’re only 1.7m under the tax line right now and Beal’s 3.8m vet minimum contract would push us over, so we’re talking about needing to trade someone (plus probably a 2nd) to make room for him.
And when you look at the roster, there’s not really any player you’d clear for Beal right now.
We just signed Conley, extended Harper Jr and drafted Cenac Jr… So it would have to be Garza, Scheierman, Walsh or Gonzalez.
I’m not saying they’re untouchable, but I’m not salary dumping any of those guys for Bradley Beal to come in and play the same DNP vet presence role as Mike Conley.

Robinson is going to miss a lot of time, he always does. Amari is only on a 2-way. Cenac is a rookie and not close to being ready, plus he might end up always being more of a 4.

You’re right, there are always things we could do.
We could also sign him, see how he goes and then salary dump someone mid-year. We might be planning to shed some money in a mid-year PG13 trade. Maybe Amari has a good year, we trade Garza and then give that spot to him.
But again, Beal would have to be ready to contribute. The off-court veteran presence role is already filled, and the on-court minute-syphoning from the younger players is hard to justify.

I’m guessing you meant Hugo because Queta isn’t relevant to this conversation. He plays a completely different position, and he’s probably our starting C.
But on that topic, Walsh started more games than Hugo or Baylor. He was very comfortably ahead of Hugo in the heirachy, as much as Hugo might have been a fan favourite.

In 3 years Kemba went from being an All-Star to out of the NBA. It really does happen that quickly for smaller score-first guards.
If he can return to his prior level then great, but Walsh was outright better than Beal last season.
If that’s the case, I’d still rather have Beal. I’m not a Walsh believer. He is terrible on offense and even defensively, is only good against weaker players. If Tatum and Beal are friends, I’d rather make Tatum happy if the level of play is similar.
I mention Queta in terms of bench minutes. We already have enough forwards in play so the time division is tricky.
Secondly, Walsh may have started more games last season. Of course he did. Hugo was a rookie. Iād rather we just start playing Hugo more. Walsh minutes always look clunky. He does not seem like a viable role player long term and if he is, we are multiple years away from that if it ever happens.
With respect to your 38% from three comment, I do not trust Walsh to replicate that this year. Beal has been a prolific offensive scorer across his career. Walsh averaged like 5 points last year. Itās a lot different than averaging 17 pts at volume.
Last year may have been Beals worst season, but if heās healthy, I think the upside he brings is much more reliable than Jordan Walsh.

One year ago he was a 17 ppg scorer on 39% shooting from 3pt range. The year before he had 18 ppg on 43% from 3. Iād take that for the right price in a heartbeat.

They were average teams. Is it Bealās fault entirely that a team with Durant and Booker underperformed? Besides, he wouldnāt be expected to be a star here, we just need a scorer. Heād be great off the bench or starting in a pinch.

Beal averaged 23 points 3 years ago and is only 33 years old. Phoenix contract was from his wizards signed contract so they didnāt pay him anything he wasnāt already signed up for. Clippers paid him 11 mil which is about as cheap youāll get for any player let alone someone who used to average 31. Beal on a minimum is a no brainer
