Matas Buzelis asked who he’d most want to spend the offseason training with: “Deni Avdija”

Antisemitism isn’t funny
Good thing this isnt that.
He’s gotta be trolling lol
Redditors learning about sarcasm
This isn’t that either.
Flopping is anti-semitism confirmed
Top tier jerk
I would believe it was a troll if they had literally any other flair lmao. Oklahomans are special.
This is what happens if you don’t have top tier education like MA or NY or something. My roommate is from Tulsa, and he didn’t have Calculus or any APs in high school.
he didn’t have Calculus

This comment is a reference to the fact that a majority of current antisemitism comes from the terminally online.
It comes from obliterating innocent children, actually!
Where’s this energy for Sudan
How much influence do the Rapid Support Forces have in American and European politics?
Now compare that to the influence of Netanyahu.
It’s not really that hard to see why the two are different.
Also, have you ever in your life brought up the Darfur genocide outside of deflecting from the Gaza genocide? Because I’d put good money on the fact you haven’t.
You’re right that the RSF has almost zero influence in American and European politics compared to Netanyahu, but that’s not a rebuttal, it’s confirming my point: attention tracks political leverage, not suffering. And no, I haven’t brought up Darfur unprompted either, but that’s not a contradiction, that’s my point in action. I’m not deeply tapped into Sudan coverage for the same reason most aren’t, as it doesn’t have the same political and media infrastructure pushing it into view. My own gap in attention is part of the pattern.
And the link you provided sort of illustrates the same influence gap I agreed with you on. I wasn’t disputing that Netanyahu has more political sway than the RSF, so the link doesn’t really add anything.
That genocide isn’t actively financed by the US
Kinda, it’s come out that the US and UK are assisting the UAE on this front.
https://responsiblestatecraft.org/sudan-civil-war-massacre/
https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2026/jun/23/uk-ties-uae-mass-atrocities-sudan-mps-select-committee-nathaniel-raymond
Selective outrage is still selective outrage, financing aside. The terminally online barely mentions Sudan’s war, which has killed comparably or more people, let alone the outside sources financing it. If the concern were really about the innocent lives lost, then the silence for that war doesn’t make sense.
It’s not selective. The difference is Sudan doesn’t have a grip hold on world governments and economies. They also don’t get on TV several times a week and lie about it.
That’s kind of my point. You just explained how a lot of the coverage comes from the political influence the country has. That’s what selective means in this sense: whose lives get attention and who gets the heat depends on geopolitics, not the suffering itself. Sudan not having that same influence doesn’t make it matter less, it just explains why the outrage online is so insignificant compared to the outrage for Israel.
Your point is silly. By this logic, any choice I make because of how I feel about it is “selective” whatever. I promise you if they plastered Sudan on the news, people’s outrage wouldn’t shift from Isreal. The fact you just so easily ignored and belittled the whole financing aspect of it to make your “point”, lol you’re not a serious person.
Calling my point “silly” isn’t a rebuttal. You’re treating my argument as if I said any personal prioritization is selective outrage. You’re responding to an argument I never made. It’s an overgeneralization and a strawman. My point is that what people care about is heavily shaped by geopolitics and media, not just human suffering. You even admitted Sudan lacks the same political influence and media presence, which is evidence for my argument, not against it.
I didn’t ignore the financing point, I explicitly said “financing aside” because I wasn’t denying U.S. funding, rather setting it aside to show that even if we grant that point, it still doesn’t address my broader argument. U.S. involvement doesn’t erase the larger pattern that public outrage is selective. And saying that there would be no shift in outrage if Israel and Sudan had similar coverage is just speculation. An “I promise” does not make it true. What we can observe is that conflicts with less geopolitical relevance consistently receive far less coverage and public engagement despite immense civilian suffering. That’s the point I’m making. And calling someone “not a serious person” isn’t a substitute for engaging with what they actually said.
Bruh just take the L. This is one of the weakest and pointless topics every time someone mentions a world issue. It’s always “oh what about this thing” uhhh of course there’s not just ONE problem in the world. People are obviously gonna gravitate to something that means a lot to them and an extremely short reddit comment cannot possibly list every issue in the world.
Such a pointless argument every fucking time.
I’m not asking for a full list of every world issue in one comment, I’m pointing at a specific pattern: outrage and coverage follow political power, not the scale of suffering. That’s a different claim than “people can’t care about everything at once”. You telling me to “take the L” and repeating how my stance is pointless isn’t a rebuttal, it’s just frustration in place of an actual argument. I’ll hear you out on your response to the geopolitics point though.
too near the equator to care
They’re not Jewish
Terminally online? Dude, youre replying to every comment in this thread..
You’re right, I’ve replied a lot here. But that’s more so just being active in one thread. When I said “terminally online”, it was about getting a warped worldview from online radicalization, not reply count.
Israeli ministers announce plans for new illegal settlements in Gaza and West Bank.
Matas with Deni’s level of foul baiting would be a problem. Good call.
Does Deni really foul bait though? Can’t say I’ve watched much of him, but from the playoffs, he seems to legitimately drive hard and get fouled.
Don’t know how you got that impression from watching him in the playoffs, half his game is just running into defenders and flinging the ball at the hoop.
I mean sure, he draws fouls like everyone else who is skilled enough to draw fouls, but for the most part, I saw a big dude driving to the hoop and legitimately get fouled.
From watching him honestly the thing that stuck out to me was how uniquely unskilled his foul baiting was compared to other guys. Like Shai at least tends to get guys into difficult positions and then creates contact in a way that’s hard for refs to distinguish, but Deni just trucks head on into whoever’s in front of him and chucks the ball.
I think this is a complete misreading of how SGA gets fouls, because THE unique part of SGAs foul baiting is that his defender can actually have good defensive positioning on him, but he has methods to cause them to foul despite that at the expense of him actually trying to put that shot in the hoop. How often do you see SGA making tough creative contested layups etc, one of the hallmarks of great scoring guards like MJ, Kobe, Wade that made those guys must watch TV? Not very often because in those situations typically he instead uses his skills to creatively get his opponents hands into his own instead of the opposite to get a viable shot off. Brunson is a better example of a guy whose excellent at getting his opponents in tough defending positions as to easily draw fouls.
Also what you describe is literally what Deni does as well. He has one of the quickest first steps I’ve ever seen for a player his size combined with explosive speed and balance/footwork going in a straight line, he gets legit blow bys on his perimeter defender constantly and is typically too fast for the help/rim protector to get good position to cleanly intercept, which leads to his fouls.
“How often do you see Shai make tough creative shots”
Literally all the fucking time. You don’t watch anything but a TikTok you muppet.
He said tough creative layups not shots. You’re misquoting him and calling him a muppet lmfao
Layups etc. falls under shots right? Or am I just wrong because of the Thunder flair?
I guess layups falls under shots but he was specifically talking about creative layups not shots in general. Shai is much more known for creative mid range shots than acrobatic MJ esque layups
SGA also gets fouled without getting touched by defenders. Such skill!
I mean it is a skill. If it’s that easy, everyone would be doing it. Is it fun to watch? hell nah.
He tends to play with extreme aggressiveness and draws a lot of contacts, it works well in most games but when the shots arent falling and the refs let the players play it can be ugly. His FT numbers are high tho so everybody will call him a flopper
he does foul bait, just like the rest of the league. the reason why he gets so much more fouls than the others is because he drives a lot and he’s good at it so most of the time the defender can’t stop him without fouling.
I mean that’s why I’m genuinely asking. You said he gets more fouls than others because he’s good at driving and defenders can’t stop him without fouling him, and that’s what I saw in the playoffs. I wouldn’t consider that foul baiting.
Matas needs to pack on a few lbs, but if he can, he can slash like Deni does. Better even with his hops. Good call from him.
People can whine about the FTs all they want, but Avdija relentlessly gets downhill and guys hack at him to the hoop.
And Buzelis is much more athletic than Deni, so if he manages to improve this part of his game, then he will be an all-star-level kind of player.
Edit: It’s not the first time he tries to say he tries to take pieces from Deni’s game. I searched whether he said something about Deni in the past, previously, and he has, during Rising Stars
In fact, he said last February that Deni is a role model for him, in the sense that he tries to play more similarly to Deni.
Full quote:
“He’s (Deni) definitely one of the best players in the NBA. Pretty much does everything on the court. I try to take little bits and pieces from his game. He’s a great player.
He’s a role model.
And he’s definitely somebody that you know, I try to model my game after a little bit”
Deni is a strong kid, especially his lower body. I think he said his mom made him run track growing up. He would smoke a lot of layups his first few years but his speed and natural strength always stood out
Functional strength is usually a separating factor for these 6’9 wing types. That’s what Buzelis has to focus on imo
Matas has more hops, but Deni is faster so I’d say it evens out
If you ever wondered the average age of this subreddit just look at these comments
If any player from anywhere else would be posted and the reaction will all be based on their ethnicity/nationality it would be called out (and rightfully so) but lets push fucking bibi netanyahu to the comment section whenever deni is mentioned
deni is not any other player considering his past with military, he deserves it
I mean I’m no fan of Israel, but you can’t control where you are born and military service is mandatory.
Even miles bridges doesn’t get flamed as much (or jonathan isaac when he was talked about).
By your logic nobody in the states would’ve been critical of the Vietnam war in the 70s.
Dude literally gave an interview where he was talking about how Israel was great because it had a family friendly atmosphere and stuff.
And also his dad is from Europe and ethnically from a Muslim majority ethnic group that saw similar oppression and war crimes (Kosovo).
Dudes just a sellout. Like LeBron and others (I think harden) were vocal defenders of China and it was purely financially motivated lol.
I will say though, Denis game is good, and Matas would do well to learn from him. I don’t think shooting too many 3s is true though. And ironically Deni took as many 3s per game basically as Matas, and he shot them worse lol. So I hope he doesn’t pick that up.
I still think it’s not realistic to expect Caleb to really be a high volume 3 point shooter, and besides Powell who else can hit them at a decent rate? Giddey can but he’s pretty slow, doesn’t create much spacing.
And then Giddey, Noa (at least probably) Claxton Swain (again probably) Caleb (again likely) Leonard miller, Collins, smith are all best in the paint or driving. I really hope Caleb and Matas develop solid jumpers, that would be lethal. Not just 3s, middies too, just being 3 level scorers like most all stars or franchise guys.
He literally had an exemption and refused it. Dude sucks, we can say it.
He wasn’t exempt, the exemptions are for Arab citizens, ultra orthodox, women, and medical conditions that hinder their ability to serve. Deni doesn’t fit any of these exemptions
He had a non combat role lol, get over yourself
r/nba: “Israelis are all the same thing and directly linked to Netanyahu”
Have you seen the percentage of Israeli citizens that don’t believe any Palestinians are innocent and support completely eradicating them? Iirc, I’ve seen polls that had it as high as 82%.
A lot of Nazis on this site sadly
Thought this was circle jerk for a sec
matas buzelis and Deni avdija are so different as prospects, I don’t know how much of Deni avdija game can matas buzelis translate into his game.
Matas is a better vertical athlete and is a more athletic, but Deni avdija is a significantly better ball handler is much stronger especially in the lower half of his body, and despite not being as athletic as matas buzelis, Deni avdija is faster especially with the ball in his hands and Deni avdija straight line speed is really underrated.
BiBi nods in approval
Lmao r/NBA is gonna go berserk about this. Doesn’t matas know you’re not allowed to say anything good about Deni?
I don’t know I feel like they’re mostly giving him his flowers here. Deni may be an all time free throw getter but it’s effective nba basketball.
Deni or Franz (who he mentioned) are good choices
Never cared for Deni and never watched him play until the suns play-in game and it made me a fan.
buzelis ruining reddit’s evening, I love that
Matas doesn’t have the handle to attack the rim like Deni does. I’m hoping Splitter gets Giddey to watch and study film on Deni because Giddey does like to attack the rim
Gross comment
Don’t worry about it. This sub is the worst collection of unserious edgelords on the internet.
I agree, nobody should want to train with Deni
I figured the least I can do here is gross-out genocide supporters.
it’s funny how the pieces of shit in real life love to virtual signal online
It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.
I wouldn’t call bipping honest, but it could be construed as work I suppose. You do have to make an effort to evade the police
I suppose I can take comfort in the fact that regardless of what I do, I will never support genocide and ethnic cleansing. Seems like you cannot say the same. Shame
Oh rest assured you are way worse a piece of shit than Deni could’ve ever been. He has done nothing in his life that could have hurt anyone, while you are out there bipping, robbing and scamming people.
Karma will come for you lil bro lmao
Lies and threats huh? 🤔
Free Palestine
That’s just reddit. People want to act like they’d do better in those situations, but we all know they probably won’t. Even then, they’re coming from a spot of privilege where they don’t have to make any hard decisions or put something of their’s on the line. I hate what Israel’s government is doing, but it still shouldn’t dictate everything with the player.
So Jews. You hate Jews. Got it.
What????
They’re conflating Israel and Jews to shut down any criticism of an apartheid state as anti-Semitic. It’s an old trick that most people are no longer falling for.
Not all Jews support genocide but it looks like I found one today. Shame on you
You’re saying all Jews support genocide? That’s pretty anti semitic of you
Your double talk is bs. We see it. You push Nazi propaganda. Hope you have a terrible life.
Ironic response.
They may be confused about which side the Nazis are on
I think you’re giving them too much credit.
I’m Jewish. I’m wholly against what Israel is doing. Being against Israel doesn’t mean you’re against Jews.
This is embarrassing
Netanyahu sends his regards
This dude is gonna be so good
But his mom won’t let him.
how tf is this not a MrBuckBuck post LOL
He gets a trip to the line to open the season
Just gonna post thirty clips of one average players interview interview today I guess.
MrBuckBuck just creamed himself
He did I was there to see it
ew
They’ll have coach Yahu on the sidelines giving pointers
He could have choose anyone and he chose Deni? Jeez lol
I get the whole circle jerking shit but I can see why. Deni gets the fouls and there’s an art to that lol especially because Deni is really physical about it. Annoying, sure. But if Matas can incorporate that aspect of his game and put on a few lbs? That’s an all-star right there no joke
Deni constantly powering into people going downhill like that is wild. He’s absolutely relentless with it. Sure, he could just say KD from the jump or something generic but this shows he’s watching the tape of these guys and likes something he’s seeing
