You get 4 sockets extra next to your ascend shield to use for gems.
Why does it highlight sinister jewels, rather than just jewel? Is there any limitations on which jewels can be placed into extra sockets?
With sinister sockets you cant socket unique jewels, can’t socket any jewel with a radius, and jewels socketed in them can’t be boosted by other jewels in your tree (i.e. adorned and radius jewels).
So this thing that is worth 8 mirrors gets you a total of four extra rare jewels? I know that’s powerful, but 8 mirrors? Sheesh
Yeah, assuming you have perfect 5 mod jewels you can get insanely high amounts of crit chance/damage, energy shield, etc.
A perfect jewel is better than almost any notable on the tree. It would be like getting a perfect 5 mod megalomanic diamond (which doesn’t exist cause you can only have 3 mods at most).
Not to mention that the person spending 8 mirrors on this thing, likely already has 1 perfect jewel, that they’ve mirrored 3 times.
How do you mirror a corrupted 6 mod jewel?
It’s actually only 2.3, consider itself takes one and if you can afford to use a 4 socket voices you can afford a 70% Adorned. Since sinister socket does get buffed by Adorned, you lose 1.7 jewel socket and gain 4, net gain is about 2.3 or a bit less if you have a crazy Adorned.
May I clarify if you were measuring rare jewels against themselves in value or comparing them against a hypothetical 5 mod megalomanic? (I actually wanted to say 4 but considering how strong jewels are right now, 5 isn’t too far off)
Think about it like this: in endgame builds, you totally revamp your entire tree just to get sockets. You’ll spend 6+ passive points doing nothing but getting 1 socket because they’re that strong. This gives you +3 total sockets for 0 passives. It’s like playing the game at level 120.
At what level do I do this transition? I’m lvl 91 now

It’s way more about currency than level, I dropped the league a few weeks back but jewels were 30-150d at that point
If you can afford a handful of them, you can start peeling off your worst nodes to pick up more jewels

It is not only about the jewels it is about having insane gear to go along with the jewels. At some point, multipliers from jewels are insane. I am pretty sure there are multi mirror jewels because they can’t be cloned once corrupted and that in itself makes them mote valuable.
I can understand insane gear. What I can’t understand is how you triple your dps by adding 4 inexpensive rare jewels to your tree. What mods allow this to occur?
Good rare jewels aren’t inexpensive. Entry level ones are 200D+, good ones are worth a mirror
Something that is only worth it for absolute min-maxers is something that rich min-maxers want. and also it’s very very rare.
Well, three extra rare jewels since you have to sacrifice a socket for the Voices jewel itself.
Well, imagine you have 8 mirrors in your stash and no upgrades left to spend them on. Now imagine you can fit three more perfect jewels in your build. Pretty hot right?
Well +3 rare jewels b/c you give up the 1 slot for the voices on your actual passive tree
You probably haven’t seen what 180dv rare jewels are like,
For example:
15% increased minion damage 12% increased minion attack and cast speed 24% increased minion critical hit chance 27% increased minion critical damage 34% increased suffix modifier effectiveness
Now imagine 4 of these in addition to the ones you already have in the passive tree
20 jewel mods (24 if you corrupt a 6th onto each of them) is a lot power scaling.
Extra jewel sockets (considering +4 in mod but -1 for the voices itself) is the only way to get a completely new path of scaling. You don’t replace a 5k div weapon with a 7k div weapon, you gain a whole new set of jewels and with that mods. +4 voices is eventually the only significant upgrade you can do, you’re no longer creeping for 1-3% dps but making actually significant inroads on numbers.
3 extra, since it takes up a slot itself
Well that and not having to constantly farm juiced simulacrums for a chance for it to drop followed by a chance for it to roll 4 sockets certainly helps keep the value high. If I had 8 mirrors lying around I’d definitely pay that to not have to do Sims for the rest of the league. That’s coming from someone whose never dropped one in either game in 5 years though, so take that how you will I suppose.

It’s a final chase item for people with nothing left to upgrade.

This is what most minmaxing feels to me. You can steamroll through all content with a few hundred divs. The rest is just formula 1 type of minmaxing specs to scrape every friction of every stat to the max.

After identifying, most of them are 2 slot, around 1in10 are 3 slot, 1in100 (or even lower) are 4 slot.

You can hover over underlined text to display description. For items you don’t own, use poe2db.
Sinister Jewel Sockets are Jewel Sockets next to your character portrait in the middle of the passive skill tree. You can slot into them any magic or rare jewels without a radius (so no Time-Lost Jewels). They also don’t gain benefits from unique jewels which buff other jewels.

You know, I have a level 92 character and I’ve been playing since league start, (this is my first season) and I dont even know what these jewels or gems do. Ive just been seeing dozens of people talking about the league being done so I just assumed the game is over and I have to wait for November to play again. I was told if you dont have a mage blood or a head hunter or 1k Divs by the third week its time to quit so thats just what I did. I dont feel like I’ve learned anything. And to be honest? It doesnt feel like I ever did. This game feels like a job interview. If you dont get it fast enough then its not for you. I came from D4 and you got to do pretty much whatever you wanted all season long. Playing a game for 3 weeks seems.. weird. D4 at least has Pit and Tower. But it seems this game has .. currency as your bench mark? I donno. Anyway this was a ramble. What do voices do anyway?
I think yuh can ignore exile who says the game is over/im done with league or any similiar comment . Because mostly i think they follow streamer/influencer decision to quit or do something else. If you wanna play just play and ignore the unnecessary comment as you play that the best way to enjoy the game . But i might be wrong coz im too just reading somewhere about this .
