I think it’s because his shot is really robotic. He’s not good on anything beyond open attempts.

In the playoffs, teams scramble out harder which makes it harder for those looks to be clean.

He’s been a bad playoff shooter in every single postseason: he’s shot ¹⁷⁄₆₃ from deep in the playoffs (27%). The best he ever shot in the playoffs was 32% once. Otherwise he’s been at 28%, 25% and 9%.

Now, he’ll get better/cleaner looks on the Lakers due to Luka’s gravity/passing, so it might be better, but he’ll almost certainly never be a weapon out there

He’s an odd duck. On one hand, he’s a very good locker room presence. He buys in.

On the other, how he plays is… so unique. He’s massively disruptive defensively. His shooting is streaky. But when he’s off… he can’t seem to find his rhythm, which is quite often.

I personally enjoyed the Mattise experience. I’m fine with it coming to an end. Absolutely wish him success because he’s such good guy.

But with us now having a guard heavy rotation, we are going to need long wing defenders any chance we can have them, were set up to play small ball, and forcing turnovers will be essential to our strategy.

Lakers got an All Defensive player to play role player minutes for pennies. This is an excellent signing, not sure how anyone can argue otherwise.
