Yeah I don’t think he’s actually a 40% shooter now because his samples have been so small the past couple years because he’s been hurt but “good defender who is an okay corner shooter” is definitely good enough for the kinds of wings you want to put around Luka because whether or not his true talent is 40% or whatever, Luka is going to be able to set him up better than just about anyone in the league to take open shots where he wants them so I’m sure he’ll look better than whatever his real talent is.

Landry Shamet was nearly out of the league and he was able to play a HUGE role for the Knicks in the playoffs, not saying Thybulle will be on that level but it’s not unheard of for guys to fill a need and play above expectations. I’m excited for this signing.

My thought is that we are Cameron Carr and Adou Thierro being good rotation players away. They’re essentially both going to be rookies so you can’t count on them but they both slide in PERFECTLY to the open starting spots skill set wise around Kessler, Luka, Reaves.

I think for better or for worse we have enough wings. Our bigs are a bigger concern. We need a starting 4 and we’re good I think. That lets us have Mamu as our ⁴⁄₅ hybrid off the bench while we have Laravia/Adou play the 4 in spot minutes

It’s not clear. Mamu may be the best player but defensively, is a terrible fit with the rest of the starting lineup. No wing defense.

On defense it’ll be matchup dependent.

For most teams, Luka will be best guarding their 4, not a quicker 3. Luka is very strong and great at boxing out. He’s perfect against most smaller 4s and can save energy instead of chasing guys on the perimeter.

Against a guy like Randle, then we’ll be playing Mamu at the 4. Luka will guard their least productive offensive player on the wing then, whether it’s a forward or guard.
