Insecurity has no height. I have a white friend who is 6’8” and a black friend who is
6’7”. They both have their own insecurities. I have a white friend who is 5’4” and a black friend who is 5’3”. The insecurities they talk about have never been their heights. They are both married and never had issues being in relationships growing up. My 6’8” white buddy has been married and divorced 3x. My 6’7” (married) black buddy thinks people treat him unfairly or are always intimidated by him just because of his height.

Real talk , and not even making this up. Just saying. Humans have insecurities in general, and reasons may surprise you.

I haven’t watched the interview, but context clues, like him starting his quote with “It’s hard work, bro. It’s hard work for sure”, even just the way he says it, makes me think the question he was asked was very much related to his height as it has to do with the NBA

1 in 6 US men are 6’ or taller. 1 in ~20000 US men are 6’8” or taller. So Trae is better than 99.9999% of players his height.A random 6’8” wing only has to be better than 99.75% of players their height to be an ‘elite’ player.

I think the reason we don’t see amazing coordination often at high heights is only partly biomechanics - a huge part of it is that there realistically isn’t enough extremely tall people that exist for outlier coordination ability to have a decent chance to appear.

Which goes with his point. His game is based on skill and craftiness. If he was a freak athlete/tall by NBA standards he would be elite.

He didn’t need to be a lockdown defender, but he was historically bad. That’s effort imo. Players his size have been able to get steals and play the lanes (CP3, AI, Muggsy). They had the IQ he mentioned. However, you could argue that those players had elite rim protectors so they could gamble more. Either way it’s really had to be valuable as an undersized one way player.

It’s such a stupid argument these folks make. It’s like saying being a cornerback in the nfl is all effort but you don’t see anyone make that argument cause it’s ridiculous. You need to have effort to be a good defender but having effort is just the start. Anticipation, lateral quickness, spatial awareness, hip mobility and bendiness around screens, timing and there’s just a lot to it. NBA fans on reddit are either stupid, miserable or both
