Caron Butler has great perspective. I like him in interviews. I know a few people who have worked with/for him and they speak well of him. Good story here.
He had a damned fine career as a player too. Very underrated.

Been a fan of him since his UConn days. He had a really rough childhood (joined a gang at 12, was dealing drugs, spent a few years in juvie). His bio Tuff Juice is a good read. Definitely think where he came from gives him great perspective.

Caron’s a textbook example of the promise and redemption that comes from this league. Giannis was super lucky to have someone like him as an OG coming into the league
It was low-key controversial when Calhoun recruited him to come to UConn. He spent years in juvie as a young teen, and struggled to even get his SAT scores high enough to even qualify to play. A lot of programs didn’t want to take a chance on him due to his background, and there was a ton of scrutiny on him when he arrived.
He was nothing but a model citizen while he was in Storrs though, and continued that into the NBA and beyond.
Butler was the one who de-escalated the Arenas Crittenton gun incident back in ‘09.

Eh, Crittenton was long gone before Wall got there, and Arenas was traded a few months into his rookie season. Wizards did make at least some attempt to clean house.
Crittenton was a weird case. Before the gun incident, he didn’t have a bad reputation. Like, no legal issues, no discipline issues. Just a pretty standard young player trying to hang on in the league. But he ended up going to jail for killing someone just a few years later. Clearly there was something going on.
Absolutely. He was drafted 6 months after the incident, and then they gutted all the vets, like Caron, who went to Dallas and got a title (injured though, ugh). They were replaced with Nick Young, Blatche, McGee. Milwaukee has a significantly higher homicide rate than Chicago but thatās primarily just Chicago having a much higher population outside those dangerous areas.
Both have very dangerous pockets, but I donāt think the pockets in MKE are worse than those in CHI
