Charles Barkley and MJ have officially reconciled
Good to see. Life’s too short to hold grudges.
Hopefully they find a balance and are alright for good in their friendship. They’re a weirdly potent mix. One’s used to making slights and words into beef. And the other dgaf and says whatever pops into his head.
What can you do, but be friends, when you have a whole box of churros?
Bet $10k on who can eat a box faster and then fistfight, because Chuck won, but the Ozempic made him throw up, so Mike thinks DNF?
Who could forget, in back to back March Madnesses, the transition from Chuck selling the “5 Buck Box, it rocks it rocks” to selling Weight Watchers.
The funny sad thing is. I can see how theyll hang out again get into another argument and then not be friends again. But maybe the age has finally soothed them down enough to accept criticism of each other.
Barkley: literally says anything
MJ: “that’s when I took it personal”
I’m more skeptical than you lol. MJ is too ego-driven and everything he does is to protect his image. I think he’s realizing that its not good optics and PR for a 63 year old man to hold a grudge against an old close friend … especially when that old close friend is still a national public icon. I’m sure he’s noticing people his age look down on people who hold grudges, and he probably thinks it will be good for business for him to show maturity.
Lol, but I have trust issues.
It was great to see Kevin Garnett squash his beef with Ray Allen at the 75th Anniversary Team. KG even discussed what was going on in his mind and the change in perspective which he needed before relationships could be mended.
It’s a lesson for us all: men can drop grudges, just make the first move.
kobe passing tragically probably had an impact on many, I’ve to say. people realise the thing about life that it’s really brief and might end in a flash
He even called his shot for Ray to get his jersey retired next, which was nice.
I don’t know why but the cut to the long shot was only when I realised he was in an icebath and that was hilarious to me
Depends on what the grudge is about
Well, MJ is a dick that can hold a grudge for very petty things. Kind of funny how many flaws about the guy people overlook just because he’s arguably the GOAT.
“I don’t hold grudges. My father did that and I’ll always hate him for that.”
Unfortunately that is wisdom talking. Some people only learn that when life does become too short and they finally realize it.
Now Scottie next
Life is too short to have sorrow. You may be here today and gone tomorrow.
Im glad they reconciled, but holding a grudge aint so bad if done properly.
I agree. Some people you don’t need to reconcile
Exactly. I don’t know why people think it’s cool that Michael Jordan has been so petty his entire life.
That’s true. But let’s also keep in mind that there are some terrible fucking people out there. Not everyone deserves forgiveness
are you familiar with michael jordan
barkley finally said sorry or soomething
Barkley didn’t do shit wrong, MJ just couldn’t handle being critiqued accurately. He was a horrible owner and Barkley called him on it because it was his job. Jordan’s the GOAT to me but it’s soft as shit and Chuck is a real one for taking the high road here.
Yup and Chuck said all that out of genuine concern because MJ is surrounded by yes men. Tbf, people who truly care about your welfare won’t always agree with you. It’s even scarier because when the fame goes out, these yes men may feel a lot of resentment and go against you in one way or another.
Even if it wasn’t Chuck’s job and off-camera, I can see him still keeping it real with MJ. Glad they got past it now.
Eh, it’s not “genuine concern” anymore when you say it on national TV.
Yeah it certainly wasn’t done out of love. MJ was doing too much to hold a grudge, but it wasn’t exactly a heart to heart conversation lmao
I mean basically saying you’re being taken advantage of by hangers on, on TV, is going to be taken pretty seriously by a very private person. Just because it’s his job doesn’t mean most of you guys wouldn’t be pissed too. Charles is the hanger on using MJ in that scenario, even if he doesn’t think of it that way.
It was never gonna be some lifelong blood feud.
Just because it’s his job doesn’t mean most of you guys wouldn’t be pissed too
If I get mad at a friend who does their job consistently and with integrity because it runs afoul of my own interests, then I’d be a pretty crappy friend.
Friends also know when to keep things under wraps.
None of us know their dynamic or any details. With that caveat given, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for someone to want to hear something like that directly from their friend in private before they say it publicly.
Like if one of my close friends calls me up and says listen, this is my opinion. You aren’t going to like it, but there it is. And because it’s my job, I’m going to say it on TV. I might be pissed. I may even not talk to him. But he’s done right by me and by himself there.
Whereas if I hear it for the first time when he’s saying it to the world on TV I’m pissed on a different level - not just because I might not like what he is saying, but because he didn’t have the respect to speak to me directly.
Again like I said, we don’t know what actually happened. I have no idea how any of what I said fits in with what happened between these two. I’m just saying that it isn’t as simple as Chuck doing his job. Your friendships aren’t just cast aside because of your job, and doubly so for these guys who aren’t doing it because they need to put food on the table.
I mean you understand why mj of all people took that personally though.
It’s not like he talked about the bobcats regularly though.
I thought so too until I read a different perspective from another poster.
Charles was MJ’s best friend and saw MJ’s life behind the scenes.
Then he publically criticized MJ using his privileged knowledge, even though MJ was an incredibly private individual who tries to keep out of the spotlight.
It prob would’ve been fine if he didn’t use privileged knowledge.
Yup. He could have said all the same things in private to MJ’s face and it probably would have gone down completely differently. I certainly don’t know enough to know how inside he got, and frankly at this point I don’t care, but Charles should have left that point to be made by another host.
Yea i get both sides. I definitely believe that MJ has too many yes men around him and that his god like aura as the Hornets owner affected the franchise as nobody has the balls to tell the GOAT “nahhh lets not draft another 7ft white center or another UNC alum or hire your best friend Charles Oakley as an assistant”
But Barkley has become arguably THE BIGGEST sports media personality and used his platform to call out his close friend.-
Sometimes they don’t want to hear it though. Thinking of Clooney and Biden. Sure it’s a much different situation, but my thought is if you really want to get through to someone, you need to amplify your message by making it public. Not saying it’s right just saying that it’s a way to get someone’s attention if they aren’t listening.
I don’t disagree with what you said in principle, but the Biden situation was on another planet as far as stakes are concerned.
No doubt! Stakes is High.
What kind of privileged knowledge? If you said he used it then it’s public now so what is it? I don’t recall his criticisms being any different from anyone else.
Then he publically criticized MJ using his privileged knowledge
It’s not particularly private knowledge when people take a look at an executive’s objectively poor performance and ask how their operational feedback structure is set-up. It’s what a management consultant would ask on day 1.
Eh, in terms of maintaining their friendship Barkley was wrong. There’s a reason conflict of interest is a thing. If you’re in a position to criticise your friend publicly you either declare the conflict and not do it or go ahead and ruin your friendship. The choice is yours and Barkley chose to ruin the friendship.
Yeah people on this sub universally give Barkley a pass when he admits on this clip he didn’t do everything right.
Honestly if it’s a real reconciliation then both likely had to come to grips with legitimate grievances the other side had. Even as a well adjusted adult I don’t think that is always a walk in the park. Barkley came off very genuine here.
Yeah, like obviously it was Barkley’s job to speak on MJ and his tenure in Charlotte, but even if you aren’t as competitive as MJ, it still hurts when a supposed friend talks shit about you and how bad you are at your job.
Even if it’s fair criticism, I don’t know how much I’d want to hang out with a dude that shit on me.
But that’s part of it, MJ hopefully recognized that their friendship was worth more than that and Barkley showed he wanted to be that friend.
Really did put a smile on my face to watch this though. Barkley seems like such a nice, genuine guy.
You actually have it backwards on conflict of interest; it’s a situation where your professional judgement could be compromised by your personal bias, not the other way around.
Regardless. Barkley had a choice to make and he chose to ruin the friendship. This isn’t on MJ.
At the same time, how would most people handle a close friend regularly getting on TV and calling you out like that? Especially when Barkley’s point was basically that MJ was ignoring advice and personally making all the bad decisions that led to the worst season of all time. It’s the nature of the work, but I can get how that would drive a wedge.
hurt for sure but I’m not ending a friendship over it. That was a time to talk it out.
The time to talk it out was before you went on TV and said that about your close friend.
If Chuck went to him BEFORE and tried to talk it out, and said hey man listen my job is to give opinions on TV and this is an opinion I am going to give - then Chuck has done everything right. But if he just sounded off on TV without having that man to man discussion? I’d be pissed if I was MJ too (to be honest I’d be pissed in both scenarios but one of them would be on me).
Truth is that we don’t know if Chuck did this or not. We’re just speculating.
It’s funny that he can let it go, but you’re so parasocial that you can’t.
Chuck ain’t wrong with his opinion but he isn’t completely exonerated. When you’re in a position where you’re close enough with someone intimately and see their vulnerable side in private that most people don’t get to see, some things should be discussed in private, man-to-man, not publicly addressed on national TV. Plus, Chuck should know better that Mike is a very private person in general. Not everyone is okay to have personal lives be put out to the public.
Relationships are more important than punchlines
He didn’t do shit wrong but sometimes you gotta just swallow your pride & apologise even if you didn’t do anything wrong because friendships are more important.
If you watched the last dance Jordan showed that’s how he motivates himself. It doesn’t work like that when you’re not playing. You just sound like a guy on Facebook that wears wolves shirts. Everyone is against me. Wait until they see me overcome everyone that’s been against me and feel my rage!
If you are around the nba landscape or even just watch the show with barkley, then you have to be pretty petty with tissue paper skin and self centered with a glass ego to take it personally. Wait that is MJ lol but barkley roasts everybody and the producers introduce topics, knowing barkley says crazy things without thinking, just to get a response out of people. They go at each other on that show harder than anybody. Imo best halftime/post/pregame show in all of sports. Imagine if MJ played with today’s media holding him under a microscope, he’d be pimp smacking teammates and team staff left and right. He’d either avg 50 a game in anger or 15 a game buckling under his anxiety.
Jordan shows how soft he is a lot when it comes to criticism
Interesting fact: Before he developed his infamous hitch, Charles Barkley was actually a skilled golfer who regularly shot in the 70s.
According to his good friend Phil Mickelson, Chuck used to possess a fluid, capable swing.
Barkley’s game famously fell apart after he started taking lessons from multiple instructors.
I don’t believe anything Phil Mickelson says.
Fair lmao
Over/Under Lefty lying?
Phil Mickelson sucks, there you go reddit. I said it.
Phil Mickelson also once said “I love my wife and all my attention is on this private family matter we’re dealing with.”
And then started handing his phone to random foursomes at his club so his wife would think he is on the course when checking his location and not at his buddies house doing who-knows-what.
Pablo Torre keeps delivering gold
Great choice of words because it leaves room for the possibility that he just has a really short attention span lol
Didn’t Charles fix his swing in recent years?
Yeah he shot like a 90 at a tourney the other week. 90 isn’t insane but for playing a tough course at 64 it’s solid. My Blaw is a 2 handicap and when he plays tougher courses like whistling straights and shit hell shoot mid 80s.
Here’s a comparison.
He did a while ago yeah.
Yeah someone told him to try pausing at the top of his swing and he just got stuck there hahaha.
Im way happier about this than I should be. Who cares, right? Me! I wanna see them have a sit down like Shaq/Kobe and Isiah/Magic.
Hear me out. Space Jam 2. They escort Adam Silver back to his home planet.
You mean space jam 3, there’s already a space jam 2
The movie starts with Lebron walking into frame and saying “My bad, forget all that mess”.
“Bronny wasn’t camera ready yet”
We don’t talk about Space Jam 2
No there isn’t
Yeah I legit smiled and thought “good for them”. It’s hard to lose friends, especially ones you’ve had for so long.
Glad they buried the hatchet. Just hope Charles doesn’t get the yips again when they play golf.
I’d like to see him on the show just once to give analysis. Just hear him talk basketball.
When LeBron LeLast Dance comes out.
Everyone/Isaiah
Gonna be really difficult to have a sit down with Kobe. Unless they get a really talented spirit medium, I guess.
Good news. Life is too short for this bs
I still hate you
Yeah but I don’t get how MJ can make friends with CB but can’t get along with his own team mates that got him through the finals.
I think it’s more of being a “professional” with your teammates and understanding what needs to be done even if you don’t gel with them. It’s like working on a team project that is ultimately successful but everyone is in it for the paycheck, is great at it, but would not want to be caught out in public with the group.
With truly good friends, they’ll tell you stuff that you don’t want to hear but need to hear. And even if they aren’t successful at the things they want to be at, they still watch out for you and will take time out of their day to listen. I’ll just shorten down to “being authentic.”
MJ and Barkley
CWebb and Jalen Rose
Shaq and Kobe
Isiah Thomas and Magic
What’s the next duo due for reconciliation? KD and Westbrook?
Bam and Herro
I’m pro-let-it-fester-until-its-not-funny-anymore
Draymon and Jordan Pool and KD and Steven Adams and Sabonis and……
those KD texts were so obviously fake
Isiah Thomas and MJ?
That ship sailed a long time ago.
That will never happen because Isiah has stated he won’t forgive MJ unless MJ gives him an apology and MJ won’t ever do that to him because in his mind there’s nothing to ever apologize for.
What happened between Cwebb and Jalen Rose?
The Fab Five booster scandal at Michigan revolved around Webber improperly accepting money from a booster and lying to a grand jury about it. It led to the school forfeiting records, probation, scholarship reductions, coach was fired, and the school disassociated from the Fab Five players for decades. In the fallout, I think Webber felt like he had been unfairly scapegoated for all the blame and he distanced himself from the rest of the Fab Five. Jalen Rose meanwhile kept publicly trying to pressure Webber to apologize for what happened. They only reconnected when Michigan finally welcomed them all back and invited them to reunite in support of Juwan Howard getting the head coach job.
Michigan NCAA violations i believe
LeBron and Father Time
Chet and Wemby
Ray Allen and lmao just kidding
Now hopefully Pippen and Jordan can reconcile. But maybe that might be a bridge too far with Jordan’s son went to town on his ex-wife lol
Pip has to get over that. She was always for the streets. Not his fault.
Did Jordan do anything to make that happen? If not, he should just hate his son, not him.
Believe jordan actually said he didnt like the situation as obvious. But then again its his son so..we will take his son side as he should
…this is the kinda soap opera bullshit I nope out on
Love that. That Oprah interview with them was good times
Chuck is rough around the edges (if he has edges, he’s mostly round), but he genuinely seems like a solid dude to be around. I honestly appreciate anyone who keeps it real with people. I like Chuck and I hope we get to listen to him for a long time.
I am glad they have cause they had such a great friendship they had developed before their fallout
This makes me so happy. Good for them.
Life’s too short to beef with real homies
right. real ones know what you really need is to pork your homies
I feel goofy as fuck that this makes me feel good.
That is wonderful they were able to reconcile.
It’s never too late to forgo your ego and focus on what is important in life 🔥
Now I can sleep at night.
I know there’s been way too much drama these past couple of years, but I hope MJ and Scottie get to reconnect too. Like the old days here.
To be honest, its scottie who needs to just accept the fact that his ex was for the streets. Though I will say that the last dance stuff was atleast somewhat reasonable for scotties resentment towards mj.
I always bring up that the first person MJ mentions in his Hall of Fame speech is Scottie. Not his family, coach, or any other teammate. He knows how much Pip means to his entire career and legacy. So it sucks arguably the greatest duo in NBA are in bad terms now.
The only thing Chuck potentially did wrong if he saud something publicly that he hadn’t already told MJ privately.
Time heals all wounds
Good
Man, Charles Barkley is just a good ass dude
soft ass boy mad at chuck for speaking the truth on natl television
The same Barkley that defend his friend Nico for the Luka trade though lol
Chuck is all over the place with his opinions.
Not when it comes to Max Strus
or the san antonio women
probably learned from the jordan thing lol
If anything, that’s another reason to not take anything he says on tv that seriously. He’s just saying shit
doesnt it make him wrong bout that soft ass boy being one of the worst owner in the nba.
that’s awesome. golf is amazing btw, hope those who haven’t tried it give it a shot with the homies
That’s good to hear, I remember watching those old Jordan VHS tapes showing how him and Barkley bonded
Honestly, this is great news. Their friendship has always been bigger than whatever caused the fallout.
Finally! 🤎
I love this.
Daily reminder to reach back out to your old friends while you still can!
Imagine holding a grudge like that for over 20 years.
And people call this generation soft and snowflakes for not handling criticism.
Subsequent generations SHOULD softer, life should be easier. That’s the whole point of progress. I don’t want the next generation to deal with bullshit we had to deal with.
We’re all soft as baby shit compared to 4-5 generations ago, when a splinter could give you an infection and you’ll die in agony at 25…
I want to see him on Inside the NBA one time with all of them.
Happy for Chuck
I don’t watch PMT, but I’ve seen two clips of them the past few days. Do they always put their own words into other people’s mouths?
That feels like a weird interview style.
It’s the same type of thing as when people think being contrarian is a valid personality type. No, it just sucks.
Earth is healing
As someone who once played a hole of golf with these guys (we were letting them play through so we played the hole together since we’d already hit), I’m glad to hear this.
Chuck’s looking lean. You love to see it.
Now do LeBron and Dillon Brooks.
Thomas Jefferson and John Adams had a falling out over political differences (and nasty political campaigns), but reconciled. This quote from Jefferson is one of my favorites of all time;
“It would be strange indeed if at our years we were to go an age back to hunt for imaginary or forgotten facts to disturb the repose of the affections so sweetening to the evenings of our lives”
Come back when MJ and Isiah reconcile
Were they ever friends to begin with?
[deleted]
you don’t know mj bro 😭
Love this so much
It’s early. I read that as “Charles and MJ have officially retired”
I was like… um, yeah, no shit.
That’s great news. I’m glad they’ve been able to work things out.
Something about 60 year old being stubborn just sounds childish
The best part of this is that MJ stopped playing golf with him because he swing was so ugly 😂
Rich people likes golf. What an incredible discovery.
I love both of them! Great role models at keeping it real.
Big news for the unemployed
“I imagine there’s not a lot of people who can give MJ shit like you can.”
Super awesome development, but isn’t the above the whole reason that their friendship went on ice in the first place?
Now Kith!!!
It was always kind of a dumb fight
Oh thank god. I can now die peacefully knowing that MJ and Barkley don’t hate each other any more
Thank god. I was worried sick
If things were 100% as Barkley told it here, I’m so glad Jordan was able to take some accountability and admit to Charles that he himself was being childish & immature, and that his friendship with Barkley was missed.
Thank god, now I can finally sleep well. Thanks for reporting
Should have never been a grudge. Jordan has no problem making snide remarks towards other people. Too bad he can’t take what he dishes out.
It’s always Barkley who speaks on this. I can’t imagine MJ cares that much.
Pretty crazy how in terms of skills and work ethic he would talk with Kobe and give him advice, in terms of athleticism and natural gifts he’s in the class with Vince Carter, and in terms of toughness, he’s buddies with Charles Barkley and Oakley.
Now Kith.
preparing myself for the onslaught of lebron hate from charles to go full throttle now.
