2013-14:

Then a terrible season. This leads to Embiid.

2014-15:

But Embiid misses his first 2.5 seasons.
So another terrible year in 2014-15.

2015-16:

Embiid misses his second season.
Leading to another bad record in 2015-16.
This leads to Simmons.

2016-17:

Embiid misses half the year and Simmons misses the entire season.
So another bad record.

2017-18:

With Embiid & Simmons finally healthy they are a 52 win team.

TLDR: The entire rough patch was 4 years. Embiid missing 2.5 years. Simmons missing one. And other draft busts like Okafor & Noel.

Embiid slander just doesn’t hit when you’re a Philly fan who got to watch all of these games during this run. This was legitimately one of the best NBA players there’s ever been and it was complete domination every night.

These are numbers with double and triple teams on him as soon as he touched the ball in the paint and the midrange was still the wettest bucket every time. Somehow he didn’t win player of the month in December but oh well.

But even if his body slows down, the end of this past season still showed that his shot falls the same as it did here when he’s on so there’s no reason to not have faith in him as a player when he’s on the court

Embiid did shit I’ve never seen before. He was hitting dribble pull-up jumpers, fadeaways, and making them look smooth at 7’1.

There have been other bigs who can shoot. But the smoothness of a pull up jumper off the dribble… it’s like the most beautiful thing in basketball.

It’s almost like injuries affect the performance of the human body.

Actual context:

In 2022 his face was caved in by a cheap shot from Siakam. Broken Orbital. When he came back with a facemask he said it was hard to just breathe, let alone play.

The 76ers went 2-2 in the 4 games Embiid played against the Heat.

In 2023 he suffered a grade 2 LCL sprain in game 3 against Washington. After the Sixers had an unexpected game 1 win against Boston, Doc Rivers made the braindead decision to bring Embiid back in game 2 - instead of waiting a couple extra days for game 3. He didn’t play all of game 2, so that alone skews the averages.

Am I outright defending it? No. I’m giving context to those two playoff runs.

But if you must, he was good in the first half of a close game and then the entire team crumbled. Boston had a 22 pt lead at the end of the 3rd.

In the 2022 playoffs Embiid was 12th in Pts per100. Oh no let’s go crazy because he wasn’t 10th. He was also 9th in REB per 100.

In the 2023 playoffs Embiid was 10th in Pts per100. So what you’re looking at in PPG ranking affected by the half game played in game 2 against Boston.

Surprised to see this from a Raptors fan. Philly gets a lot of hate, but I’ve never seen Philly fans act like Raptors fans after Siakam injured Embiid in garbage time in an elimination game Toronto was about to lose.

Plus this was in 2022, so it was just kind of infuriating to see Toronto fans and NBA fans ignore, or even justify, Siakam’s temper tantrum that caused an injury. Of course it’s the Internet, hateful stuff gets attention that’s the way it works. Ultimately it’s just really sad that it was a fellow Cameroonian guy who took a cheap shot on Embiid that messed up what was looking to be Embiid’s healthiest Playoffs.

Happy to see Embiid is growing on you though, and everyone in this thread. In my opinion a lot of NBA fans have missed some special basketball moments because of the popular narrative around Embiid, and Philly, for most of his career.

I’d say it’s two main factors in him growing on me. The first is that I started to like him because we stopped having contender dreams so I could enjoy basketball more than the result. It sucks Scottie got injured, but Embiid was contesting a shot in Game 1 and landed on Scottie’s foot.

That’s a bit different than a non-basketball move by Siakam to smack Embiid’s face during garbage time in Game 6.

Scottie Barnes is a great player, and it’s nice that he was able to recover from that injury and he’s continued to get better every year. I understand being emotional and not liking Embiid, but being frustrated and not liking a player is different then celebrating an injury.

For all the hate Philly gets, in my experience there’s no fanbase more hateful than Toronto. Worst Sixers fan do is boo their own players, Toronto fans justify cheering on an injury years after the fact

2021-2024 Embiid may be one of the greatest scoring runs we’ve ever seen. If only Morey could have surrounded Embiid with more 3&D players vs TobiASS Harris and DeAnthoney Melton. Embiid never had proper spacing on offense because of the lack of shooting and had to cover up so much on D.

As a diehard Sixers fan, that game 6 vs Boston in 2023 will haunt me forever. Embiid did everything he could but James Frauden, TobiASS and Melton bricked everything late in the 4th quarter when they were up. He’s the biggest “what if” to have played in the NBA.
