Fan: “Is Josh Hart the version of you? He’s small, he grabs rebounds. Who would it be?” Dennis Rodman: “I can’t tell, I don’t watch basketball.”
There’s no one in the league like Rodman
Josh Hart averages 9 rebounds/36 which is great for someone his size. Rodman averaged 16-18 rebounds/36 in his peak years.
That number is actually crazy
Theres an analysis online that goes out to prove that no basketball player was ever as good at something as dennis rodman is at rebounding, and that its not even close
https://skepticalsports.com/the-case-for-dennis-rodman-guide/
dear god, what have you done, thank you!

Daaaaaaamn. Man! The nineties are SO BACK!
The Clown Prince of rebounds, I could never hate him like Jordan, he was a force of nature and a law unto himself. Something like the Jimmy of the day, the way he just couldn’t stand the goody two shoes Spurs and sulked on that team and then went HoF on the Bulls for Jordan and Jackson, which really sealed Phil’s rep. Rodman was just a role player on the Pistons and didn’t really act out until he clashed with the choirboy Admiral.
Just a great time to be alive and watch basketball minus the Knicks final game each year of course.
I do not think he was a role player on the Pistons. He was an all star and DPOY mutlple times.
Yuno approves
Watching the full games where he goes off is genuinely bewildering
that shits like 15 years old now man where has time flown😭😭
i was taking stats when this first came out and my professors extra credit for the semester was writing a critique/peer review of the study
that said, this is truly a litmus test for determining someones age aka “young nephew status” for those who are just now learning about it.
Keljin Blevins disrespect
Why Dame’s cousin out here taking strays. Lmao
Not even Curry at 3s?
The article was written when Curry was in his second year in the league. So at the time, yes
Curry’s shooting has more impact on the game id imagine
But the shooting skill gap between Curry and Ray Allen/Reggie Miller/Klay/etc is much smaller than the rebounding skill gap between Rodman and anyone else who was good at rebounding
Should be specified as “on ball 3 point shooting”. All the other guys wee catch and shooters.
We can pretty confidently say no. Curry is probably the best shooter ever, but the distance between him and number 2 probably isn’t that large.
I can’t speak to a comparison of Rodman/rebounding and Curry/shooting, but I don’t see how Steph is only “probably” the best shooter ever.
I’d say he’s universally been considered the GOAT shooter for 10 years, and nobody else has the combined volume and accuracy to even be in that conversation with him.
it’s kind of big. curry, especially in his prime years, is unmatched in his combination of volume and efficiency. even when the rest of the league has “caught up” he’s shooting like 40+% on the most attempts in the league. the 73 win season he shot 45% on 11 attempts.
his career average so far is 42% on 9 attempts a game. the only guys that come close are catch and shoot guys. guys that can create like Dame top out at 40. doncic, harden, etc trend toward the mid-high 30s
even curry at shooting?
Rodman in his 20s averaged 9 rebounds per game
Rodman in his 30s averaged over 16 rebounds per game
Best example of a T shaped skill set in NBA history.
he started the game late, same reason i think yaxel lendeborg is going to be fine, less wear and tear
Back in his 20s he was more of a wing defender and didn’t put so much energy into only rebounding. He was also scoring a little bit too. In his 30s he would rarely ever try to score from his offensive rebounds
He’s probably the GOAT rebounder
Only an idiot would think Josh hart is like Rodman.
Almost 19 a game average in early 90s.
Too many walking buckets, too few walking boards.
Yeah there just isn’t anyone who takes as much pride in rebounding as he did. Off the rim it was his ball and GOD help whomever tried to make it otherwise
Put some respect on Juju Reese’s name
And even if you’re arguing rebound numbers being high in the 90s because the style of play is different than today, Rodman would probably be putting up 15+ easily. His peak rebounding season, he was almost grabbing 1⁄3 of the rebounds when he was on the court. The closest rebounder in today’s era imo was/is Drummond.
The last one that kinda was like him was ben wallace, to me
I don’t think Ben ever guarded perimeter players the way Rodman could
true but i don’t think rodman could’ve destroyed prime shaq like wallace could
He couldn’t contain Shaq in the 90s. Shaq averaged like 27 & 13 against Rodman in 12 matchups. That’s no shot at Rodman though. Shaq was just that dominant.
FWIW Shaw went like 27 and 11 in the finals against Ben Wallace on like 60% shooting and he did that with all the defensive rule changes designed to stop him and other dominant 1 on 1 players.
this isn’t brought up enough. Shaq didnt lose that finals. He did his part.
I think it’s mostly Kobe fans not wanting to admit that he shot 38% from the field in the series and went 19-59 from the field in the last 3 games.
It wasn’t all just one player or one thing, but I feel like people bring up Shaq vs Ben Wallace a lot more than the absolute 3 stinkers Kobe put up to finish that series.
Tayshaun Prince deserves credit for Kobe’s poor performance. He was a great defender in his prime and is criminally underrated
Defense was the reason USA brought him to 2008 Olympics
Like Kobe said, Shaq could’ve been the greatest. Honestly I still believe he’s in the conversation. Shaq is a household name. Everyone knows Shaq.
I guess you need some icy hot after getting into an accident with that insurance
Steve Nash would have won that series with Shaq
The whole plan was Wallace guarding Shaq without much help so everyone else was free to play defense on their guys and not leave shooters open. Shaq got his, but Big Ben did good job and kept Shaq’s output manageable so no one else was free. Rest of the team put the clamp down on the rest of the offense and that was the series
There was a game against Orlando Shaq where he scored like 22 in the first half with Longley and Rodman splitting time guarding him.
Second half Rodman takes over and gets Shaq gassed. He scored 4 points in the 4th quarter.
Rodman couldn’t stop guys like Shaq but he made them work for everything they got.
I think my favorite was watching him play against Utah. Watching him get dirty with Stockton and then just slide over to Malone while Pippen switches off and locks Stockton down.
The best offensive duo and defensive trio on the same team. It was so much fun to watch.
Eh, Shaq’s TS% dipped by 4% in those 12 games vs Rodman compared to his averaged against everyone else in that span. His A/TO ratio was 1:2 as well.
Not saying he shut his water off but he more than held his own despite being 6 inches shorter and 50+ pounds lighter
Ben Wallace was on an island with no help defenders at 6’9 against prime shaq. No help defenders meant the rest of the lakers squad less Shaq had a stronger defense than they saw all playoffs. Numbers won’t show Ben’s impact on that series.
Bulls also swept shaq n the magic
Ben was fronting in those finals, Sheed was often defending Shaq from behind which is arguably much harder part than fronting.
Shaq still had great numbers, it’s Detroit’s suffocating perimeter defense that stopped Lakers that year, just look at Kobe’s splits.
Ben’s defense on Shaq is quite overrated and is getting more overrated witch each year passing.
Shaq averaged 27 and 10 against Ben Wallace in the finals
By design. The rest of those LA scrubs didn’t do much of anything
Y’all gotta start watching games and not rely on hear say. NOBODY was stopping SHAQ except SHAQ himself.
Wallace never did that either.
I was gonna say that perimeter players in Rodman’s era didn’t play like perimeter players today
Then I remembered Ben Wallace’s today was 20+ years ago. Damn I’m getting old
20 years ago isn’t 20 years ago, I’ll explain later
Edit: replied to wrong person
I get you, but nah.
Rodman was a more complete all-round player. He had some offense to his game in Detroit*. He was smaller and quicker too.
On the other side, Ben was strong AF. Rodman was certainly strong, but Wallace was unreal.
*Edit: offense compared to Ben Wallace’s game, which is setting a very low bar
i don’t think rodman was ever that well rounded. he couldn’t pass, dribble or shoot like prime draymond, who was peaking at 6-9apg
draymond is a unique player, but rodman was a great passer.
Prime Draymond is a much more well-rounded offensive player than either Wallace or Rodman. No question. I was comparing Rodman to Wallace.
And in that comparison, Ben sets the bar very low.
That said, I looked up stats and Rodman and Wallace were closer than I remember.
Rodman was great during that stretch when Pippen was out. It’s just not what the coaches needed from him. Wallace was just not good on offense
Exactly, and you could see it too. Wallace looked so tentative on offense. Rodman just wasn’t. Dennis’s game wasn’t pretty or anything, but his engine during the Bulls years was something else.
Rodman was an excellent passer
didn’t have the flair or quickness
I bet Rodman could still out rebound Josh Hart right now.
Shoutout Alize Johnson who was 6’7 with T. rex arms and averaged 15 rebounds per 36
I love his crazy ass. Always will. Even after he marries Kim Jung uns daughter
*World
There’s no one in the world like Rodman
Bro probably doesn’t know who Wemby is
Bet if you asked him, he’ll say he likes the Baconator
Baconator 🔥
Sir, this is a Wemby’s.
can i get a baconator?
He probably don’t know who Bron is
I’ll take “Things the Inside the NBA crew would say if they were being honest” for $500
I feel like Chuck wouldn’t watch much ball if it wasn’t his job lol
He’s already glued in the green room, watching hockey and police shows 😆
God, can you imagine the slack jaw he’s sporting while you see the reflection of Law & Order on those cows eyes he has
What the eff is this sentence lol
I remember watching a hornets vs wizards game in the regular season and in the coverage for it chuck said “Everybody who watched that had nothing going on today” or something and I’m like… yeah you got me, but ain’t you supposed to be promoting this shit??
Nobody is promoting hornets vs wizards ball
It’s his job, and he still doesn’t.
Pretty sure he’s on the record saying his favourite sports to watch are Hockey, Boxing and Football.
explain your username
I like ska and pokemon, simple as that.
Ska?
‘Pre-Reggae’ Jamaican music genre.
ty
One of the most famous ska bands from the 80s is Operation Ivy.
Fun band
great username
He doesn’t even if it is his job
Technically Jeopardy doesn’t have a 500 clue. 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 for the J! round, then 400, 800, 1200, 1600, and 2000 for the double J! round.
I think Kenny actually does watch some games, though that just makes his horrendous takes even more embarrassing
They literally say that shit all the time.
He just like me fr
Like most of this sub.
more likely to be like op’s name
True, at least Rodman is honest
Tbf that’s just cause you’re watching porn
are you wearing a tshirt with yourself on it as well?
Implying that Dennis Rodman is small is absurd.
I mean I get that he out rebounded for his size, but he was 6’7” and absolutely fucking jacked in his prime.
Dennis and ben wallace are the only guys under 6’10” who have led the league in rebounding in at least the last 35 years.
Charles Barkley?
Oh that was at the 35 year cut off, huh?
He led the league one time about 40 years ago.
Exactly, he could guard centers every now and then, Hart is 6’4” and not built to guard beyond 1-3
Both great players in their roles
Yeah, he was actually pretty good guarding Shaq. Which is crazy.
In the 2004 Finals, Ben Wallace blew out at least one of his pairs of shoes guarding Shaq and had to get replacements in the middle of the game lol. Can’t imagine how hard he was working.
He was really lean and cut, but I’m not sure I’d call him jacked. He was between 210 and 220 which is on the smaller side for 6’7 as a basketball player.
He was an athletic freak though. Extremely strong and fast.
He’s got long octopus arms too
I’m not seeing the Josh Hart comparison…
Same here lol
There’s not really many players over recent years like Rodman
Id go as far to say that theres been no player in recent years thats like Rodman
You’re probably right
He’s one of those unique players
Rebounding and defensive specialist who’s also the enforcer of the team
Rodman’s probably the kinda guy that would stick his finger up his captain’s ass so there’s that
People always think “ah small player that can’t shoot but can rebound and is good on the perimeter defense” and immediately compare him to Rodman. That or Chuck.
Hart’s a very good rebounder and perimeter defender, sure, but he’s not Dennis Rodman 😂
I know that Hart isn’t a great shooter but I wouldn’t say he can’t shoot.
Lol they are nothing alike. No one boarding like Rodman with the defense.
They’re somewhat separate versions. Young Dennis Rodman with the Pistons was an insane defender and elite rebounder.
Late Pistons and Chicago Rodman was an insane rebounder to the detriment of his defense. He was still obviously very capable but he was visibly shooting for rebounds above everything.
There is such a gulf between how good each player was that even if there are some similarities it’s insulting to compare Rodman to Hart.
Hart is a good role player. Rodman is a HOFer, a multi-time DPOY, All NBAer, All Star, and the greatest rebounder in the history of the sport. Hart’s only accolade was winning a championship as a role player.
Crazy that these days we can just pull up replays on YouTube. Used to be things like his Spurs days nobody had them on tape or anything, you missed it they were gone.
Rodman was a beast long before he got to the spurs. I’ve never seen anyone go vertical towards the spectators to get a loose ball like this man. Even if he couldn’t get it he’d still try like he could. Nobody plays like the worm
Bleacher Report graphic of this quote gonna go crazy
An nbacj certified hood classic
well at least he’s one old head that admits it. the rest just repeat talking points from 10 years ago.
90s Rodman was one of the first guys ever who could legitimately guard 1-5. 80s Rodman was one of the best 1v1 defenders in the league, arguably of all time.
Josh Hart is solid but there is a major gulf between him and Rodman.
Bro hangs out with Dictators. There are so many better questions.
There is no one similar to Rodman’s style of play. Dude was a beast.
The disrespect to compare Rodman to Josh Hart. Rodman is all time, man.
aka I’m a 5x champion HoFer don’t compare me to that bum
comparing hart to rodman is crazy work.
Rodman is not in the best ever tier but the only people in his tier are the best ones ever.
Dennis has done an insane amount of drugs
Lmfao…. can’t compete Hart to Rodman
Rodman totally seems like the kind of guy whondoesn t give a shit about other players and mostly plays basketball because he’s elite at some parts of it and it made him a ton of money.
I could be wrong, but that’s totally the vibe he gives.
I mean, to anybody who knows anything about Rodman this isn’t a stretch at all.
It’s so absurd that Rodman might just be saying that to not disrespect Josh Hart. This is how some people do sarcasm and he’s saying you actually don’t watch basketball to be asking me that stupid ass question. At the same time it’s not hard to believe it doesn’t actually watch it.
Rodman is the best fundamental rebounder in league history. He’s not a 7 footer yet he just had the natural ability to get those boards day in and day out. We don’t need to compare Josh hart to that
Whoever asked that question. Has never seen Rodman play apparently
Should be the official slogan of this sub.
NBA legends, they’re just like us
Reggie Evans was the closest to being a rebound hog like Rodman
“I just listen to the Bill Simmons podcast and read r/nba”
Oscar Tshiebwe
NBA are so obsessed with comparisons and rankings. Nothing like it in any other sport
Perfect response to an idiotic question/comparison.
Why does Dennis always look so dirty looking? Lmao.
I feel so old seeing someone ask that question, noone can really compare to Rodman in the modern NBA, he married probably the greatest rebounder in NBA history.
Rodman looks like Spike from Gremlins!
Lol Rodman is the best.
For real though, this is why retired players takes mostly don’t matter at all. Rarely do any of them even watch modern basketball.
Oh we know.
Lol what
Small? Rodman is 6’7 without his shoes on LOL
Hates ball so much he left the event
In the league Rodman watches a dunk is worth 4 points and a buzzer beater is worth 5
Josh Hart wishes he was Rodman.
Rodman grabbed at least 20 rebounds, 158 times. Josh Hart, one…
Even when Rodman was 38 years old and such a basketcase that he could only play 12 games for the Mavs before the cut him, he still averaged 14.3 RPG.
In his entire career, Hart never averaged double-digit rebounds in a season. (Rodman averaged double-digit rebounds in each of his last 10 seasons in the NBA.)
He’s wearing a t-shirt of himself???
It’d be funny if he was watching hockey like Chuck.
“Who’s Steve Jobs?”
At least he’s honest!
Based
He’s not Rodman
I was obsessed with rodman as a kid bro. Like 5 years old, weird as shit. Thought he was the coolest dude in the world
One of us
Rodman was unique beast
Zip it up when you’re done mate
He’s the best worst person.
The one thing Rodman and I have in common, there’s no one in the league like me either
That shirt is sick! Where can I buy one?!?
Rodman couldnt give less of a a shit about current basketball lol.
Ppl gotta stop asking Worm questions
U/indominable-dingus do you still think Dennis Rodman knows more about basketball than everyone else?
I’m not really surprised that Dennis Rodman doesn’t watch much basketball these days.
Fucking annoying guy asks a question then talks over the answer
Black don’t crack.
Until it does.
Bro thinks he’s Kim Jong Un
No, Rodman basically had two elite skills, rebounding and defense. Harts rebound/ defense isnt elite but hes basically better at everything else. One is a swish army knife the other could be the most impactful player on the floor when he was on because he was do dominate at what he did.
hey you should post every pointless interaction online. thx
I had to do a double take. I thought bro was in a wheelchair and then he stood up???
get this guy a critical ambassadorship
Also I have never heard anyone call rodman small lol..
“I don’t watch basketball”
Confirmed jerker
I love Josh Hart, but what a ridiculous question
Did Rodman ever thumb Jordan?
Right on , NBA sucks now
Disrespectful to Rodman lowkey 😭
This man’s so fuckin legendary 😂
Great answer
Me either Dennis. Me either.
Nephew asking this question never saw Rodman play, apparently. Lol Josh hart comp…cmon man.
