Reaves talks about spending NYE at Luka’s House “We ended up bowling until 5:30 in the morning. He can’t beat me, I told him you can’t beat me in your own house.”
Reaves is for sure one of those friends that is frustratingly just naturally good at every sport
Mookie betts vs AR multi sport competition. I hear mookie is good at everything.
Mookie is the Luka of Austin Reaves’s. No, I will not elaborate.
Hahaha. I understand.
This guy elaborates.
No.. let him cook
Luka, Reaves, Mookie and Shohei cooking competition when?
Gets them on Chopped already
Why would you? It was perfection.
No need too
Mookie is miles better at his own sport, so I’m taking mookie.
And bowling
I’ve never seen Mookie golf tho, maybe AR can take that one
I’m taking Mookie when it comes to hitting a small ball with a club-like object. Like, he’s used to the ball trying not to be hit
Baseball players often struggle golfing cause the swing is very different. Usually they hit it a mile but struggle to keep it in play.
Tall people usually have a harder time picking up golf though. Even with fitted clubs the height + giant wingspan most NBA players have make the swing path of a club a lot harder to do consistently. Unless your name is Steph Curry and are a god at everything
Steph Curry is a god at all those things because he is a god of hand eye coordination. Basketball, baseball, golf, and all have weird overlap in that way. Look up cross dominance, youll see some interesting stuff. Some of the best hitters are right hand dominant but left eye dominant or vice vers. People like that tend to be better at spprts like baseball and basketball, and worse at aiming sports like archery and shooting.
Can confirm. Played baseball almost 20 years can drive 300 like nothing, but the minute you ask me to use anything other than my driver I am dogshit.
I have eagled (only eagle ever) a 450 yard par 5 because I drove it like 300-315 and then just “chipped” it in from roughly 150ish yards out. Sheer luck.
Baseball players can generate the power no problem, its the nuances as you get closer that fuck us. Golf swing also messes with your baseball swing if you are in season so dont recommend it lol
Apparently hockey players are extremely naturally inclined for golf, from what i have heard.
Every baseball player hits it a mile. Most struggle to keep it on the course. Golf is hard
Really hard to untrain your body from open your hips. As a baseball player.
Fair… although Mookie does seem like the kind of athlete who would be annoyingly good at golf shortly after picking it up
He played highschool golf and is a -2.8. I’m taking mookie here
Edit: actually just looked it up and Austin reeves is a +2.2. that’s actually nuts. Yeah Austin is a fucking stick
Good enough to go pro even now if he got on the grind. Incredible stuff.
Mookie is what you’d get if you combined Luka and Austin (assuming here that Luka and Austin’s basketball talent aggregate)
Not this season
Mookies hand eye coordination is in another world than Reaves and he’s faster. Unless the sport is basketball or volleyball, Mookie is the easy choice.
Mookie has bowled multiple 300 games. Also he can dunk even tho he’s 5’9”. He’s just a supreme athlete.
He’s also bowled 300 games in tournament conditions. People who don’t bowl might not get why that’s so impressive, but it’s exponentially harder to strike on a pro pattern than whatever is in a local bowling alley.
Yea, it’s not the same thing, even remotely. Like putting up 30 a game in the Bulgarian second division vs doing it in the NBA playoffs lmao
Ok explain this to me. Are the pins set up differently in a pro game? Is there more time between frames? Genuinely curious, I’m happy if I break 100 at my local lanes lol
it’s some shit to do with how the lanes are oiled or maintained, and how that makes it much harder to bowl well.
here’s a video that I think does a decent job explaining the difference
Baseball players are at another level in terms of hand eye coordination than pretty much any sport.
Table tennis gotta be up there
Mookie has bowled multiple perfect games and won bowling tournaments. He’s no joke on the lanes.
Austin Reaves actually grew up mostly playing baseball. If he had listened to his dad, he might have tried for a scholarship.
For the youngins here, Charlie Ward was the ultimate cross sport athlete in the late 90s.
Won the Heisman trophy as a QB, first round NBA draft pick and decade long starter, drafted by the Yankees,
Mookie is a legit great bowler, he bowls tournaments and legit has 300 games
Mookie bowled in the PBA
Bruh I have friends like that but with just everything. Game night? They’ll casually win a game they’ve never played before. Karaoke? They’ve got the entire room cheering as they belt some ridiculous song. Friendsgiving? Oh they just threw together the most delicious dish ever made.
That’s more impressive in a lot of ways because there aren’t a ton of transferable skills
Have you tried being fucking awesome?
So many times but I can’t seem to get the hang of it
At least you’re super receptive to your limitations. There’s power in that
Awesome never seems to want to fuck me.
Just be good at things you loser, it’s easy
You must be pretty chill if they all wanna hang with you
Aww that was really sweet, lol ☺️
You’re Mirabel, bro
It’s called being built different
It’s called trying, bet they work hard for it.
I have a friend who’s just insanely good at every strategy game. Doesn’t matter if it’s a board game or a computer game - if it involves strategy, he’s gonna win. He’s a smart dude, but it’s more than that. He also is absolutely elite at manipulating other players into doing what he wants.
I find a lot of strategy games have the same underlying thought process by thr creators so if you’ve learned the ideal strategy in a similar game you can tend to apply the same underlying processes to success. It’s obviously not one to one but I can tell when people are sort of applying a general strategy they already know works versus feeling out the board.
Not to say there’s not innate talent just that a lot of the peolle in this thread thinking their genius friend is so good at all these games. They probably have a lot more practice than they let on in these sorts of exercises.
Oh, he’s definitely a smart person - he breezed through chemistry at university without putting real effort into it. The only time he actually worked there was during his master thesis.
What you say, is also true. He’s been playing strategy games for decades and he’s been really good at the RTS game StarCraft, as he played the game like a maniac during his teenage years.
The psychological part of winning these games is what fascinates me. In many board games, talking is a vital part of the experience. You form alliances, talk people into trusting you and so on. That’s the part he truly excels at. I remember an eight hour long game of Axis & Allies in which he came back from an impossible position due to his ability to sweet talk opponents. He would have been a great salesman.
Funnily enough, he absolutely sucks at poker because he lacks patience in that game.
I’m that friend with most of my groups of friends, but I have one friend who can beat me at almost anything. There are levels.
I noticed this in college. I was that guy in high school. I got to college and there was one buddy of mine that was just good at everything. He was gonna take over his family’s farm so he was taking some major related to like coaching youth sports or something but he was just good at almost everything. Basketball, football, baseball, disc golf, real golf, ultimate frisbee, board games, even the stupid games we’d make up on the spot. The only thing I could beat him consistently in was basketball(I was recruited by some small colleges but didn’t play due to injuries and burnout) and video games. It probably didn’t help that I was legitimately going through probably physical and mental health crises at the time, but still. He beat everybody at everything and it was an ongoing joke in our friend group. 😂
There’s levels to everything.
Karaoke is 95% song choice. Bonus points for choosing a cool or nostalgic song that’s not a cliche. The rest is being very average at singing and commiting
I have two in my life. My best friend and my cousin. I love getting them to compete because it’s always a battle.
luka for reference was the highest (or second) highest ranking in overwatch iirc
generally athlethes can pick up most games to a decently high level
a lot of the mental skills translate
That boy was Top500 while in season lmao
thats what it was. i dont play overwatch i didnt want to overrank him because i know someone would come in here like “UM AXSHUALLY HE ONLY REACHED”
[deleted]
A lot of the top people have multiple accounts, would also play multiple modes, so it might even out
It’s funny to think how toxic Luka is in lobbies while carrying as Zarya.
Огонь по готовности!
top 500 while in the playoffs. like, the 2024 playoffs where he was leading a finals team
Somehow I don’t think Nico Harrison approved
A great example of why you can’t let others know what you do and expect them to be cool about it and trust you
Luka smiling as he casually posts his overwatch meanwhile Nico seething in the background plotting his demise
This is the lesson teenagers learn early hence why they lie to their parents
Knowing how to improve at something is the most important and most translatable skill there is.
Most people just blame the game devs instead of their own skill level.
It is really cool seeing the talent translate. Plus otherworldly hand-eye coordination. Must be nice
Top 500 when it was highly competitive
Eh not really, 2024 is probably one of the least competitive periods in the game
I played singles in tennis in high school and got to play against Reaves one time. Can confirm he was just naturally good. Kicked my ass lol
I had a friend that was legit amazing at every sport. He could’ve gone to the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. His mom wouldn’t let him play because of his grades though. He ended up an alcoholic that works at a bowling alley.
Is he good at bowling at least?
I would assume so. He was better than everyone we knew at every sport, he was a freak athlete. Unfortunately his mom was a bit nutty and controlled his life.
I have a friend who was the opposite, but had a similar mom situation. One of the geekiest, smartest guys I ever knew. Guy’s mom was insane though and they had a very weird relationship. He didn’t drive until his late 20s. In college, he had an issue with his roommate and his grades were slipping, much of his own fault too there. His mom came to live with him in their home against the roommate’s will. Maybe just to make sure he kept his shit together. She was weird, weird though and that roommate, a mutual friend was pissed. I mean, guy was like 21 living with his mom in the house as he took a couch and the roommates tried to live their college guy lives.
He had not gotten his degree because he didn’t finish one college paper.
Anyways, I talked to him recently, now 10+ years later. I saw his mom once and she said he was working towards law school despite never getting his degree.
Ended up seeing him and he mentioned he thought he lived in a simulation. Recently saw him again and he mentioned his mom had passed, but that he also thought maybe she had faked her own death. I asked why he would ever think that and he said, “because it seemed like something she would do.” Idk if that’s the case, but I recommended he talk to someone. He blocked me on everything. O don’t think he could process his mom passing as she hovered over everything in his life. Guy is as the young folks would say, cooked.
I really wanted to help him because he had burned all his bridges and couldn’t figure out why. He is on some kind of spectrum or something. I just don’t think any of it was ever looked into.
Legit sounds like it could be a compelling psychological horror premise. Guy whose life is so chained up by his mother that when she dies he isnt even sure if she is really gone. Actually chilling
That’s a wild claim about someone who apparently wasn’t allowed to play. If he was even half as talented as you claim, some coach would’ve gotten his grades fixed
His grades were already good enough that he can play. It was his mom that was stopping him because they weren’t better.
I guess he wasn’t good enough then
Thats sad
I was close friends with Younghoe Koo in high school and that mf was ridiculously good at every physical game. He nearly bowled a 300, he landed a kickflip LITERALLY THE FIRST DAY HE STEPPED ON A SKATEBOARD (if you’ve skated you know how mind boggling this is), he was nasty at basketball, he was a black belt in tae kwon do and had a whole book case full of medals, and 100% would have gone D1 in soccer and maybe pro. He scored hat tricks nearly every game through middle school club soccer. I’m pretty sure he represented South Korea in some youth tournament against China.
I remember he pinned one of the best wrestlers in our high school just messing around in someone’s basement. The first day he showed up in 6th grade it took literally one gym class and the whole grade was like “yo, have you seen this fuckin new Korean kid?” Apparently in capture the flag he just ran around everyone for fun the whole class and never got tired.
Yea, some people are just gifted physically.
Nice try, Younghoe
If he made it to the NFL then he’d mop the floor with normal people.
What’s kinda funny is apparently if you ask players on the Eagles who the best athlete on the team is, a lot (most?) of them will say Jake Elliott
Edit: Forgot to finish my point, but I was gonna say that I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of kickers are guys who fit that mold. Good at a lot of things (often soccer ofc) and find their way filling the niche in high school. There’s def a mentality aspect to it as well
The brain is responsible for abstract reasoning and logic and when people are preternaturally good at it we call them geniuses.
The brain is also responsible for coordinating the physical movements of the body but for some reason when people are preternaturally good at that we don’t often use the same word, or have to qualify it with something like “basketball genius”.
I always think about Joe Mauer.
2 Consecutive state championships as QB throwing for 3,022 yards and 41 TDs, was USA Today National player of the year and number one football recruit before he decided to focus on baseball.
2 time all-state selection in basketball averaging 20 points his last year.
Baseball…should all know about his career.
Bowled a 290 game with teammates when he was in the Twins system.
Something like a 5 handicap in golf.
His dad was a great high school player in Kokomo, Indiana and went on to play college ball where he met AR’s mom who was a stud college volleyball player. Dude probably could have played multiple sports professionally had he taken different routes.
things like this really just baffle my mind. Reaves in high school looks like a million kids playing high school sports but he has just a complete innate ability that doesn’t show until you see him move. There are so many genetic factors that aren’t obvious at first glance.. it would be so cool to have that elite reaction time/body control/hand eye coordination/extremely quick learning
You should see Luka on Dude perfect, and it’s insane outtakes. I bet Luka was legitimately frustrated at losing.
I went to school with one of those guys and he ended up going pro at golf and got as high as the top 25 of the world golf rankings for a little while and made millions on the PGA tour. He was just stupid good at every sport we played growing up. Soccer, baseball, tennis, bowling, even dodgeball. Basketball was the only one where I could keep up. I’d never seen anyone that naturally gifted before.
I bet he’s not a top 500 overwatch player.
Azen but sports
Never thought I’d see Azen referenced on r/nba. Elite pull
I’d imagine Steph is the same way. He has generational hand eye coordination that I’d imagine carries over to all types of games and sports.
Yes. I had a friend like this. Keep me humble. He beat me at everything except wrestling cause I wrestled in college. ✌️
Obviously, I don’t have a bowling alley in my house but it would piss me off to no end if my friend beats me every time at my bowling lane that I took the trouble of installing in my own home.
That’s how I feel when they beat me at mario kart
How much trouble was it installing Mario kart
Terrible. It took a whole hour because my internet sucked
Weird to live in a world where Mario kart is installed ngl
You’re joking but the feeling of inviting all your friends to come play Beerio Karts or board games after setting up the system , getting the vibes right, getting good food and then u end up losing in everything is infuriating lmao
Look up shortcuts and save your mushrooms for them, most regular people don’t really know or use them. It feels like cheating but it’s not!
Soul Calibur for me. Motherfucker I paid for this Dreamcast
It was probably already there when he bought the place.
It was, and he’d just got it so doubt he played that much on it
He bought it from Maria sharapova
Goat russian tennis player just by sound alone.
Are you referring to her screaming with every racquet swing?
you just know Luka was throwing his hands up complaining to an imaginary ref after every 7-10 split
Ah yes. The bowling gods are cruel and can’t be influenced no matter how much you complain.
One time I played like 20 games of ongoing against a guy because he couldn’t handle losing the entire night. It was sweaty, decent ping pong. So I just fucking smoked him again and again and again well past midnight until he gave up
AR is 100% that dude that is just natural lights out when it comes the 2nd or 3rd tier sports. I bet he’s nice with pool cue too
I bet he’s unbeatable at corn hole😂
He’s NICE with the bags
Probably a sick darts player too
darts is an outstandingly easy game to win against friends if you have decent hand-eye
now, my friends are not Luka Doncic, so take my word w/ a mine if salt
He must have like apex level hand eye coordination. He’s good at stuff that involves throwing things into other things, or hitting things with other things into other things.
He unironically does. He’s not the most physically athletic dude and look how far he’s gotten in the NBA
That intentional miss into putback against Denver last season was picture perfect hand-eye coordination
Just had horrible flashbacks
he’s 6’5” with good lateral quickness. i think he’s a pretty athletic guy, even for an NBA player
I’d pay to watch Steph and Reaves compete in random events that involve hand eye coordination. It would have to be stuff they wouldn’t normally play or practice at home like curling or shuffle board.
I have a buddy like this, just nasty at the finesse sports
always hits last cup in beer pong
being able to just absolutely smurf every party game would be awesome. like Ted Lasso dart scene. Kinda reminds me of those people who unassumingly speak another language and then hear some people talking shit and call them out on it.
yeah it’s honestly so sick, filthy at darts, polish horsehoes, shuffleboard, pool, cornhole, bocce all the accuracy party games
I played a lot of pool as a kid but haven’t played much in years. There was this pool table at a hotel I was just at and after I wore my wife out playing like 10 times this guy wanted to play me. He couldn’t win, and we kept playing until like 2AM. It reminded me of this story, ha.
I am an above average pool player and I have buddy who I’m positive his degenerate dad dragged him to the pool hall every day as a child. This guys absolutely works me every single time we play
Yeah, I’m pretty solid and was having a good night. This guy was getting pretty drunk, but he thought I was so good he wanted to bring me to pool halls to hustle. He was an actual degenerate, though, ha.
I have a very tight bell curve where a couple drinks elevate my game but once I pass that peak boy she falls off a cliff
Wins a free game every time on the pinball machine.
Absolutely bangs on the claw machine
Wins enough tickets at Chuck E Cheese to get the stereo on the top shelf.
AR is Luka Doncics Father ( in bowling)
AR is Devin Booker grandfather
And golf
So Luka kept Sharapova’s bowling alley?
I mean tbf the amount of time money and effort to remove it just wouldn’t be worth it probably
Maybe it’s one of the reasons he bought it. Never know maybe Luka just loves himself some bowling
Come on cousin Luka, let’s go bowling!
It’s an oddly shaped space. How else would you use that?
TIL that Luka bought Maria Sharapova’s old house lmao. Looks sick; Manhattan beach is a baller location.
https://youtu.be/Pt_5Faa_J-U?is=640Gv4LjvssKnTZE
Why remove it? He probably has more than enough room in his mansion for anything he wants.
Interesting connection: Maria Sharapova was engaged to the previous greatest Slovenian Laker of all-time, Sasha Vujacic, in the early 2010s. They broke off the engagement after a year or two.
Now that Luka is divorce, you think he’s going to marry Sharapova?
Luka is divorce, think will marry Sharapova, yes?
Lmao
bowling is fun as fuck
Reaves has that aura
He looks like the second most important guy in a frat house
That’s good
That is fucking hilarious
AR seems to have a good head on his shoulders. This is adorable
Definitely not a typical star nba player that’s for sure, who goes out with 10 chains and sun glasses on etc lol.
If I didn’t watch basketball I’d think he’s just a tall farmer from Iowa or something and he grows potatoes.
I’d let him date my daughter
Luka’s going to get him into Overwatch just so he can beat his ass.
Reaves grinds for a couple months and smokes Luka. Luka rage quits the NBA and becomes a banana farmer in Slovenia.
I still can’t believe Luka is top 500 in Overwatch.
It doesn’t make sense that he’s that good while having a career in the NBA.
Of course Luka has his own bowling lane at home.
Yeah, but I think he bought the house from another athlete who already had it. Not something he added
Maria Sharapova
I think she was involved in the design phase actually
Damn 25 Million
Light work for Luka
I’m curious, can he even use regular bowling balls? Wonder if he scaled everything up by like 10% lol
if he has his own bowling alley he won’t be using generic house balls. If he wants to use it at all, he’ll get his own bowling balls and theyre free to drill to your hand size when you buy one
You can just increase the span between the fingers.
Luka about to have a down year cause he working on his bowling game too much
His FT percentage will go up shooting underhand.
A bag had to have been involved right? 5am?
0% that got done off pure competitive determination lmao
Luka is salty enough to force AR to keep playing til he wins
Drinking and gambling
No way anybody is bowling till 530am without one.
Anyone who has friends from Europe knows the answer is yes
I’ve never used and I’ve seen 5am doing more relaxing things. If I had a friend that was trying to compete in something, it’d be easy to have time slip away.
Potentially, but these guys already have weird schedules that involve mid day naps and being at your peak in the evenings
Bet they had a mound of cocaine that night
They took ecstasy and dry-humped the rest of the night
Can confirm, I’m Luka’s dealer.
His description was he can beat Luka at everything other than the one thing that probably matters most (basketball lol)
As a Laker fan, I love having him on the team. We can quibble about his contract, but he he’s fun and gets along with Luka well on/off the court. Everyone on the team seems to like him. Lebron liked him.
It’s so freaking hard to build a True Contender™ nowadays with the rules and if we’re not going to top shelf, I want guys like Reaves on our team. 82 games is a long season.
You gotta have players that make you root for them, make you wanna watch. He’s that dude for sure
IRL who do you think you are I am
As soon as Luka beats him he’s getting traded
I will never get over the Austin Reaves accent…
It’s hard for my brain to separate the art from the artist..
Pardon my Taint
I can’t help but imagine the ending of There Will Be Blood
Reaves screaming I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE
He couldn’t beat him. So they beat each other.
Hey Luka, let’s go bowling!
lol I bet he’s fucking godly at pool too
Luka would cook him in overwatch tho
Austin “Roman Bellic” Reaves
There’s a Big Lebowski (Nobody fucks with Jesus.) vs. Prince (Game, blouses.) joke in there, but I can’t find it.
He would literally go to the Quidditch Hall of fame
Power of Friendship coming to a Lakers team near you
This is Luka’s house with bowling alley btw.
Looks like Kevin Bacon
Can they just fuck already
