Every day that passes is a day older AD gets and as he gets older, he loses more trade value. Maybe, the Wizards are hoping to hold onto him and see how the season goes, but if AD sustains another serious injury, they may not be able to give him away, and AD has a $62m player option going into 2027-28. At least with Trae, he’s only 27 so best case scenario, you could get 5-6 years of quality play out of him and he could stick around for when the Wizards are ready to contend in the East.

It just feels like they should push forward with Sarr and let him develop. Maybe they can get a couple of solid picks out of AD and can use that to draft pieces around AJ or trade for a piece that better fits their timeline

I mean when it comes to small market teams does the salary really matter? Their priority needs to be drafting well and making good trades, because 9 times out of 10 a great player won’t join them in FA.

My perspective is that atm they feel like they have a nice young core that they won’t have to spend any money on for some years, might as well hold on to veterans that will make you competitive now and hope the younger players can develop better playing with them.

Yeah the Trey Young contract is horrible. extending AD also will hamper their cap, but by the time it ends is when they’ll have to extend their young players, and every year that passes the contract becomes easier to trade.

Wizards probably think best case scenario next year is being a 5 seed (not saying it will happen, but they have a better chance at it with Trey and AD than without them) and giving their young players playoff experience and a winning culture.

They wanted AD because they got him for free and thought they could maybe flip him for more assets than what he went for at the deadline. He’s aging rapidly and always hurt. Doesn’t really fit their timeline.

They want to trade him but with AD still delusional thinking he should get a max extension no one wants him at any price.

Because there may be a milder version of Paul George 2019 where LBJ tells the Warriors he will only go there if they get AD. That would prompt the Warriors to offer enough for the Wizards that they can’t turn it down.

Too many people forget that OKC got so much for PG because the Clippers were essentially trading for both PG and Kawhi (even though the official trade in the books was just for PG). It was bidding war between LAC and TOR for both of them as a package.

I could have the date wrong but like August 6th the wizards can offer an extension. They’ve given no indication they will. So he will be an expiring contract with no intention of coming back

Pretty sure AD doesn’t really seem like he wants to be there, doesn’t believe them to be good enough to contend (which is what he wants to do). Generally teams tend to trade stars that don’t want to play for them.

i think a lot of it is literally the media just wanting to see that Steph-LeBron-Dray-AD team that was rumored for one last run.

Who knows what the Warriors are willing to give up, but if they included an unprotected future pick for AD that would be tasty. I think the Warriors would want to protect it though for a 60 million dollar guy who can’t stay on the floor and is only getting older.

I don’t think the plan is to trade AD. Maybe if he rehabs his value and you get some nice offers at the trade deadline you move him then. But if the LeBron situation has a team offering real value for AD right now I don’t think the Wizards mind not having to deal with his future extension.

Part of it is people don’t like to think about cap rules and like to imagine what their team would look like with just making AD appear on it; like if it was 20 or 30 years ago there is a world where a team that is like one piece away and is part way through the season might see that AD is having a good year and is healthy and offer some stuff (not a huge hall but some stuff) for him to put them over the top, and he could be a super version of what Rasheed Wallace was for the Pistons in 2004. The reality is that with the current cap rules, you just can’t do that with a contract that big, the amount of stuff you have to give up for AD now means you need him to be a big piece not the last piece which means he needs to look more like he did in his 20’s, and if he is having that kind of year he is in the MVP talk and Washington is a buyer, not a seller. To some degree you always have magical thinking about trades. Back before he was sent to LA, I remember on the Lowe Post someone saying it was too bad he couldn’t just be moved by the NBA to the Blazers since if they could get him without gutting their team at the time they might actually be a title contender, just an impossible thing but the kind of stuff that people like to talk about

No one mentions Sarr. I’d rather let Sarr grow with Young and Dybantsa. Sarr was really good last year, imagine him in 3 years with the other 2 around him.

TLDR: If im the Wiz, id rather focus on Sarr with D.A as the backup.

#2 can be refuted when you consider that one of the public suitors for AD is GSW who would be sending back Butler contract and not some center. Ayton would be a stopgap C in that situation.
