Dwight Howard randomly runs into Andrew Bynum in NYC
Bynum kept it pushin lol
I do this at work when I see people I don’t want to talk to
Yep! Be nice but keeps the legs moving.
Kawhi on the iPad home screen vibes.
[deleted]
Bro just shared all of that for no real reason
😭😭😭he mus be going through it to share dat on da nba reddit 🤣
I felt like Bynum here, started reading his second sentence, saw a huge paragraph, and just kept it moving to the rest of the thread. Except I got pulled back, something nagging me.. “why the fuck that dude started talking about maxing out financial aid and credits”
Last sentence killed me LMAO
Lol. Brutal honesty.
Like a drunk guy gets on the bus and starts acting up. Most people just nod and try to ignore, but then you’re in the back and you just yell “hey man, nobody wanna hear all that”.
Yeah but now I’m wanting the follow up comments. I’ve got a lot of questions.
damn bro i hope you’re making millions now for doing all that that sounds terrible
Sounds like someone who got off work late on a Thursday after already working 50 hours this week for way less money than they should be making and is like 6 drinks deep venting because they have no other outlet because all their coworkers are going through the same shit so they have to vent to Reddit. I’ve been there before.
I have to ask how your life has turned out after doing all of that, incredible that you managed to work that hard but that just doesn’t sound fun or even worth it.
Thought I was on LinkedIn for a sec
I do this cause I’m awkward lmfao.
Too many times I’ve ran into someone in public, did a basic greeting or dap, and then just kept going with my day like I got tunnel vision.
Later I think, “Oh shit. Probably should’ve talked for a minute.”
If you gotta get going but still wanna be cordial, the key is to greet, chat in the same spot for at most a minute or two, then let them know you gotta get going and start walking backwards while wrapping up the conversation, and finally say goodbye and turn around
Walking backwards is good technology. Worth remembering. Mythbusters also pointed out that you can get through a crowd of people who want a picture with you or something similar without getting stuck or seeming like a jerk by just never breaking stride but inviting them to walk alongside you for a second and lean in and smile for the pic. It worked great, lol.
I’ll keep that in mind for the next time I’m in a crowd of people who want a picture with me
Lmao same. I’m awkward and hate small talk
Sometimes you have no choice. Opie & Anthony used to make fun of Michio Kaku for avoiding talking to them, but his three choices were to say too much which would be awkward (his brain is like a firehose, aka motormouth), say nothing which would be awkward (“still waters run deep”), or try pretend to have a normal exchange which would be awkward since it would be obviously fake (come like a “creep”). So the only real option is to get away from that situation as quickly as you can, which even then is socially negative, so he just comes off as afraid of people in casual / small talk situations.
This is like if Chris Paul saw Deron Williams on the street and they just dapped each other up and continued pushing like they don’t have any history with each other 🤣
[Insert Chris Paul fake laugh at Steve Kerr and back to serious gif here]
I was going to say that if you see a co-worker or classmate out in the wild it feels like you’re instant best friends, but not according to Andrew Bynum, lol.
It’s Manhattan. Not even the bums have time to shoot the shit with Dwight unless they’re getting something out of it. Everyone but the tourists & kids keep their hustle on.
Bynum is from halfway between NYC & Trenton. He’s probably been going to The City his whole life and automatically goes into Manhattan mode when he’s there. Would be shocked if he’s got beef with Dwight or something.
Why do I understand everything but simultaneously nothing of what you said? 😂😂
LOL
It’s probably also he saw Dwight involved in some shit with a fan and a camera and thought I’d love to stay and chat with Dwight but I don’t want to get stuck talking to some nobodies and not even have a good chat with my friend. Fuck that noise. I’m jogging on.
He’s a New Yorker. Doing New Yorker shit. Dude was in a hurry to get somewhere and wasn’t going to get distracted by Dwight’s need for attention while interacting with a “fan” who thought he was Bam.
Manhattan isn’t that chill… lots of celebs still get stopped by local clout chasers and people who are making an exception because they’re big fans of so and so
“I didn’t want to do a stop-and-chat.”- Larry David Andrew Bynum
He knows Dwight too freaky for him.
This was my thought. Word is out on freaky ass dwight
Andrew Bynum could’ve had it all if he had just an ounce of work ethic and a little better luck.
Do you think Andrew Bynum don’t got it all lol? He got enough and living his life. Basketball career wise sure, but outside of that he’s set for life.
I meant his legacy as an NBA player.
None of us care about legacy in our jobs. Bynum had the injuries and lacked the bball fire. Retired with $72mil in earnings at 26yo. Living the fucking dream
Legacy wise for sure. He was lucky that he had Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant coming into the league pushing him to be better cuz he immediately joined a championship contender. It was all downhill once he got traded.
It’s the knees man, no amount of work ethic gonna fix that.
Surprised he’s not fat.
He was seen in an entire bike compression suit out in LA biking around the city for hours a couple months ago.
I mean he had some bad knees. He got as much out of it as he could imo
Bynumite would’ve crossed the street off he’d known it was Dwight. lol.
Dude completely disappeared after he retired. No interviews, no podcasts, just peaced TF out.
Yes, and I can respect that. Dude had a lot of opportunities to be on cam, specially when Kobe passed away.
Yeah I was surprised that he didn’t even release a statement. He really wants to stay out of the spotlight.
He looks good and healthy. Glad he is doing well.
Yeah for his height and injuries he’s still moving pretty well it looks like
He’s 38 years old lol
Is he?! This made me feel… young, so thank you, lmao
Bynum was 17 when he got drafted straight out of high school. His age was a big storyline in his early NBA days…was he mature enough, could someone so young handle a teammate like Kobe, etc.
Yep I remember all that and tbh, never heard a single bad thing about the guy
Don’t let him near a bowling alley
He’s not even a year older than Steph Curry but definitely feels like they played in different eras.
He left the league in 2014 just before the Warriors era began.
lol
his time in the NBA was pretty controversial, and the media hounded him like crazy. i hope the guy is doing well.
I live in NJ and I’ve seen Andrew Bynum and his family multiple times at places like six flags, American dream mall, etc.
He’s a chill dude but he doesn’t wanna be bothered.
Mad respect. I’d be the same way.
Give me the money, fuck the fame.
Back when STL had the Rams in the NFL, I saw players at Six flags with their big ass families. It was nice, everyone just having a blast at the wave pool.
Basketball was never of interest to him. He played basketball because he was a tall kid and it opened up doors for him but it was not like Kobes love for basketball.
I think you have to be interested in basketball to make it to the NBA. There are just too many hours of work / dedication to argue otherwise. I think the injuries eventually took a toll on him and he became a complete dick both on and off the court as a kind of coping mechanism. He was probably super depressed about it given his ceiling and hype. I’m sure anytime he runs into a former player there’s a lot of shame involved.
It’s a really well paying job. I’d be able to lock into anything if it guaranteed millions.
I knew dudes that had college scholarships that HATED the sport they played. But it was a free education.
He still seems to carry himself that way. No need to pretend to be friends with Dwight and chop it up. A simple dab, yessir and he’s on his way! He’s living his life and that’s good on him
Probably would be getting harassed by psychotic fans (not a compliment) 24⁄7 for things he did 15 years ago
And he disappears right after dabbing Dwight. Didn’t even want to catch up and talk lol
Kind of like this interaction.
honestly you gotta respect it. man secured the bag and just went to go bowl in peace
He just kept walking lmao
He was on the way to the bowling alley
Late for his shift
Flamenco danced right around Dwight.
He doesn’t wanna be on camera lol
He’s like “ahh shit I’m gonna be mentioned everywhere again. Thanks Dwight”
Dude probably doesn’t wanna deal with the comments made about how his career ended which always gets brought up with him
I would bet you he’s not “dealing with” anything. Not everyone is terminally online. Bynum is just living his life lol…
It’s like running into a coworker you didn’t really care about from a job you had 10 years ago, and it looks like the coworker wants to “catch up.”
Pro move is to just nod, smile, and keep walking, lol.
Yeah I’m always just all smiles, wow great to see you! Make a joke, but never stop walking the way I’m going and just truck right on past. Game recognize game.
And wants nothing to do with Dwight lol
He was a two time back to back NBA champ in his prime, ain’t got no time for the 1 ring chasers
And crazy good himself
He got a shorty waitin for him
everyone’s a shorty to him
Hijacking just because the world doesn’t know enough about his infamous Myspace.
It’s the funniest NBA related thing ever.
Scouts probably caught it late, and thought oh my god.. he’s an idiot.
And Bynum just dapped him and walked on. Lol.
Post retirement Bynum is an enigma. No online or media presence at all, just random sightings on the street
He is an enigma. He was randomly spotted in like the 25th row during one of the 2016 Finals games, drinking a tall can of Miller Lite, and enjoying the vibes of a classic Finals series. I hope he’s doing well.
He seems to be avoiding attention, while simultaneously giving zero fucks if he happens to encounter it and something about that is endearing as hell lol
He’s secure with himself
This… people calling him an enigma for not having social media is so funny to me
You lowkey get treated like this in real life, even if you’re just a random bum, for not having it. It’s just so normalized by the younger generation to have it.
You see Tim Duncan more than you see Bynum which is saying something
tim duncan is still involved in the nba that’s why
the actual bigfoot
In a major city though not like he living in some ranch in the woods bro is in in manhattan living life lol
That interaction and Dwight’s reaction was Bynum’s entire career summed up.
Ain’t got no time for that BS friendly catch up lol.
Late for his pickleball date
Dinkin’ and Dunkin
Bro did not give a fuck
Bro did a jazz Westbrook
NYC is your favorite player’s favorite city
Move on before you get hit on
True New Yorker.
Bynum greeted Dwight like he was a random fan
Kitty was with him
Crazy shit is Bynum hasn’t played in like 13 years and is still only…..38
Lakers still need a backup C, don’t they?
His knees would crumble the moment they hear a basketball dribble
They signed Looney. His knees broke the moment he lifted the pen. Bynum would fit in nicely.
Looney slander. My king doesn’t need to jump.
He is basically a beyblade at this point.
Like books in an ancient library
Or a bowling alley
I remember people were hyped when he signed with the Pacers because the Big 3 Heat would have to deal with both Hibbert and Bynum.
Then he only played 2 games for them and disappeared
He came to the Thai restaurant I worked at a lot that season. Always alone & was always down to chat about anything other than basketball
What was his go-to order?
Brother I don’t know what I ate last week, you expect me to remember Andrew Bynum’s order from 12 years ago?
Yes
I can’t remember what I ate last week either but I would probably remember what some random celebrity ordered a lot at the place I worked at.
I remember those Indiana games. I remember Heat trying out Greg Oden to help with Hibbert. I don’t remember Bynum in Indiana. I remember that whacked ass haircut he had in Philly.
Bynum was 17 years old when he got drafted
I still remember him coming from the crowd to walk the stage first player I remember doing that
Bynum kept walking like Howard was asking him for some spare change
You don’t know he didn’t ask for it.
I’m fucking dying at this one
Those two were competing for best center 15 years ago, crazy.
And they got dealt in the same trade!
That’s what seems to be lost on everyone. Bynum was the big Lakers piece they had to move to acquire Dwight, and the lead up to the trade was exhausting with the rumors and media circus. Seeing them randomly run into each other in Manhattan is wild.
Paul and Pau being the forgotten duo in this cycle always makes me wonder what if.
there were credible people saying the sixers might have won the trade by getting bynum at the time lmao
I mean tbf Bynum was coming off a second team all nba and all star season and he was only 24 at the time, while Dwight was coming off of back surgery which reduced his athleticism.
They the 2012 All NBA 1st and 2nd team Cs
I think Bynum could have had the edge over Dwight but he lacked two things: Motivation and 2 functioning knees.
Bynum had a significantly better offense bag during the year at his peak
Still a 2 X Champ regardless of everything. Dwight only got one in the end post-prime.
I was such a Bynum fan. I remember the little back and forth against Shaq. Good times.
Not fair to compare Bynum and Dwight’s rings though. Dwight couldn’t win being the bonafide #1 option but he absolutely carried those Magic teams and took them deep in the playoffs. Bynum got 2 rings being the 4th/5th option on a top heavy team.
Bynum is definitely underrated though. His touch around the rim was elite
And don’t forget Kobe and Pau were his team mates lol.
I should’ve put some emphasis on top heavy team
Also both ended up as NBA champions with the Lakers. What a weird timeline
This is the most random video
Lowkey should win best off season video.
And the espy goes to…
It almost feels like a dream.
Dwight, Bynum, and Bam all in the middle of NY is fucking hilarious
Bynum was an anomaly. Feel like he could’ve probably had a few more good years but didn’t give a shit at all. Came in, got his chip, got his bag, got his injuries and bounced .
A post up Center that wants to play rough and Shoot three?
Get him up out of here
Dude was putting shakes on Miami shaq, he would have been a beast for however long his knees let him
As an 18 year old rookie no less
Really, these are just teenagers who were born super tall and athletic, and, for their entire lives, everybody has been trying to force them to become 30 PPG scorers in the NBA
Dwight holding on to his fame while fans are mis identifying him as Bam lmao. If it was anybody else, it’d be kinda sad but you can tell Dwight enjoys the chaos.
Dwight was on the fucking Masked Singer he lives for weird shit. He’s just happy to be here.
Interesting that that’s your example of Dwight liking weird shit
It was the most TAME example I could give. You could write a novel about the weird shit Dwight happens to get into.
Kid knew him as that guy from Dancing with the Stars
It’s a pretty easy mistake to make. The two look alike and have the same build. There’s a popular meme that Bam looks like someone drew Dwight from memory.
can’t imagine being sad because some kid thinks I’m someone else
Looks like Bynum don’t even realize that’s Dwight Howard. Hahahahahs
I was lowkey thinking this cause I figured they would at least have a short conversation, but it also looks like Bynum didn’t want to be around the cameras too long Lmaooo
Probably that, didn’t expect to be on camera suddenly, I don’t blame him
He had to have known that was Dwight. Not many people look at Bynum eye-level
He knew… These 2 literally battled in the finals
He thought it was Bam lol
Andrew Bynum lookin 67 years old but he’s like 28.
He’s 38
Tall folk are like Great Danes.
Tf you mean “like 28”. Google is free
What the hell lmao
lmao bro did not want to stay and chat with dwight
It was like a high school classmate interaction. Idk why people find this surprising. It’s been nearly 15 years and bynum got thrown through the grinder. I wouldn’t have even smiled.
Not everybody deserves a stop and chat.
I’d say it was more a case of seeing a camera recording and wanting no part of it, or him just wanting to look past the NBA entirely more than anything.
Which is fair. Some people are like that. And in his case it is more understandable. At least he’s looking in good shape all things considered.
Andrew Bynum is still only 38 years old.
The Hans Moleman of centers.
might be the first time i’ve ever seen an NBA run into an NBA player on the street like that. pretty cool moment for sure
Dwight looked excited himself like a kid spotting an NBA player.
Thats gotta be super rare to ever have two 7ft former all stars randomly run into each other in public outside of a basketball event
I used to think Dwight was corny, but man, he seems really nice in every video I see him in. He seems misunderstood. I prefer this version of Dwight over pseudo-intellectuals like Jaylen Brown. He sucks
How’d you manage to make this about your dislike of JB lol
Wheres Bynum gotta be lol
Home with his fam
Thought Bynum was living on the streets for a sec there
Me too. I was like, Oh shit. And then he comes into focus, looking like a just for men ad.
lol, honestly that kid is relatable as hell in a way.
For whatever reason, I just haven’t watched a lot of the Heat & Bam. When I think of Bam, I get Dwight Howard’s image. It’s like a mislabeled hyperlink in my fucking head.
I seen Bynum at a PF Changs in Manhattan Beach middle of the day, middle of the week about 10 years ago and he had this same energy. Wild hair, bumming it in sweats and a white tee. Hilarious to see this.
What’s up with the towel on Bynum in the middle of the streets? He just jumped out of the pool? And he couldn’t say a few words to a former coworker? Where he gotta be??
I have so many more questions
Looks like he just got out of the gym.
Didn’t want that smoke.
No seriously. Using it to block the wildfire smoke.
Traded for each other too. (Well others as well. But you know.)
Feels like something you’d make up while talking to your friends.
Feels like seeing two distinct people from separate points in my life interact
Bynum younger than Dwight btw how’s he looking like someone’s big uncle
Bynum on his way to go throw up half court shots at his next practice
Bynum looks like he just got out of the men’s shelter and why is Dwight using Snapchat
Bynum has been want to left the fuck alone for a minute and it shows here
Why is he in a hurry? Is he late for a bowling tournament??
Bynum didnt wanna do a stop and chat
Dwight always looks so happy and fun. Seems like a cool guy
Everyone here thinking “Bynum hates Cameras” or “Bynum hates Dwight”. My man looks like he got out of the gym when it’s 97 degrees with literal AQI of 226. No one should be outside right now.
My man rushing to get the fuck inside and hit the showers.
“that guy tall as shit” glad i have the same reaction as dwight howard when just walking around town
Two Lakers centers that contributed championships.
At one time these were the top two centers in the league
