When Monte Ellis Said He’s in The Same Category as Dwayne Wade: “To be honest. I’d put myself in the same category as Dwade. I mean at the end of the day the only thing he have that I don’t have is more wins and 2 championships. That’s it.”
Same bro
I’m closer to Ellis than he is to DWade is all I’m hearing
Brian Scalabrine needs to talk some sense in to you
I know that punk George still crying somewhere under the George Washington bridge
Ellis was an all star or at least should have been. One of the most electrifying men in sports entertainment.
To be fair, so is GeneralActuary2410, and I’d defy anybody in *checksthesub* r/nba to dispute that.
The NBA is lucky I was born with bad knees. I could have been the first white dunker
We already had Blake Griffin
His great great great great grandfather was black
Good afternoon my Octaroon!
One drop rule keeps America in a choke hold.
Have you seen the documentary on albino black men in africa? I was like holy shit, theyre all Blake Griffin
What the fuck
If you didn’t appreciate Monta at his peak that’s on you, that’s not on us
Monta have it all
except for more wins and two championships
And Gabrielle Union.
This is unreal nostalgia lmao. I was there for the prime Monta years
He was fine, but come on
Brother I get nostalgic for Luis Scola. Lemme live
Luis Scola was like you turned down all the sliders on Jokic (including the run/jump ones) then gave him a mullet.
I could watch him and Al Jefferson tape all day and call it a good day.
“prime Monta years”. I must have missed them🤣
Both of them were some of the basketball you’ll ever see
Did he do the elbow ?
Drain The Rock Johnson
He was entertaining, but not effective.
If DWade is a 10 then Monta is a 6.5 at worst and you’re a .5 at best tho
Shiiiiiiit 6.5 is pretty low. Monta should’ve been an allstar with GS and also with the Mavs. One of the best attackers in the league every season.
I said at worst because I didn’t want to argue with idiots that don’t know how good he was. I played against him multiple times in HS so I’m very aware lol. We were a good team and he gave us 40+ every game
No your not
I so happy I’m in the same category as wembanyama
Me 2 im a male just like him, for the rest I dont consider myself as an alien.
One might say that I’m the Monte Ellis of Dwyane Wades.
Don’t forget that there was a large contingency of the Warriors fanbase that was upset they chose Steph over Monta.
I was one of those fans but you have to understand talent had very little to do with it. Up until that point Steph would sprain his ankle every time someone sneezed on the court. It looked like he was going to be a chronically injured player with a short career. Glad I was super wrong, obviously.
It’s kind of amazing he had the career he did given those first few years. He really hasn’t had a ton of ankle issues since, but back then it was constant. I wonder what he did with those things? Does anyone know?
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/14750602/how-golden-state-warriors-stephen-curry-got-best-worst-ankles-sports
tl;dr: A LOT of time in the gym
Really? Aren’t you forgetting somebody?
Everyone forgets Mark Jackson had Jesus use his healing powers on Steph’s ankles. The caterpillar still being disrespected.
That was a fantastic article
Yeah people don’t understand that Steph is an insane workhorse even by NBA player standards
He’s an all-time worker. His conditioning is arguably the best of all time and his strength progression throughout his career has been insane.
the warriors staff made him relearn how to fall to not put stress on his ankles and he strengthened his core and back a ton to do the same
Main thing was strengthening his core. Basically he wasn’t strong enough, or not focused on the right type of strength. Core became stronger, legs took less stress, legs take less stress, ankles take less stress.
Please tell Lamelo your secrets Steph
Some of it involves being responsible and focused, so I’m afraid you’re out of luck with lamelo
LaMelo apparently started the same this past year. There’s a vod of a G-League dude talking about scrimmaging with melo when melo was coming back from an early season injury and changing the way he exercised and worked out. Im just surprised it took this long.
For real, like you’re a professional athlete, i’d think you’d be desperate after consecutive seasons of injuries. I know they did a host of things different this year (ankle braces, stringent time management) which seems to have worked… but who knows how much luck there was as well. Only time will tell.
Hasnt steph basically said he got healthier by squatting? He had the highest squat besides looney on the team iirc
Mark Jackson’s pastor blessed them lol
ya i remember the draft back when he was at davidson, like 70% of the discussion about him was about his ankles, it’s actually impressive how well they’ve held up since he started playing in the nba
Those fragile ankles are what enabled the Warriors to be what they became. He signed a meager 4y/44m contract right after his crippled season when he had a handful of ankle sprains that kept him to like 25 games (in a shortened season). That contract ran through 16-17. That enabled them to sign Igoudala a year later and then on the last year of that piddly contract, sign KD.
Yeah, this is singularly the reason LeBron didn’t end up with like 6 rings or more
Yeah I was at the BOO game, and I was booing. It also had to do with not really having anything except Monta for so many years. Like we stunk but Monta was fun, so it hurt, like now we stink AND we lost our most fun guy. Also management was not trust worthy at that point, so it just felt like betrayal. Was VERY wrong but so was everyone else, I’ve never been in a room that big booing that loud, ever.
Also, it wasnt a large amount it was everyone.
Tbh I don’t think people would have booed that much if Joe didn’t do his arrogant schtick in the middle of Mullin’s night. Also, I was not booing lol
Really? We could have used your help…
I guess your right no one would have booed if the focus was just on Mullin …
The whole situation, when it got out of control had me laughing so hard.
I was like kinda into the nba at that point, mostly just into basketball in general but i definitely wasnt paying much attention to the Warriors. But! That Monta trade was a really big deal, I remember that. And i was a fan of Steph cuz of that Davidson run (still get pissed that he passed up the last shot in their last game of that tournament)
tbf Andrew Bogut was super injury prone too but he was able to put it together for that first championship
Bogut was not super injury prone he had a freak injury. By the end of his first stint with the warriors he had like 3 seasons he didn’t play over 65 games
In his last season with Bucks and first season with Warriors, combined he only played 40 games. And that was years after the awful injury.
He had an ankle issue.
He only ever played over 78 games twice and under 40 games 6 times , he was pretty injury prone along with freak injury.
Yeah, it seemed like on the rare occasion that the Warriors would get a national tv game back then, Steph was always out due to his ankles. If you told me his career would turn out the way it did in 2011, I would’ve thought you were crazy.
My friend was a big GS fan pre Curry, and I get it, that team with Monta had flaws but was really fun to watch
Okay. I get it was the consensus at the time and it’s hard to just understand stuff based on games played but like for his first 6 or so years Steph only had one year where he missed most of the season. Otherwise he played 70+ games consistently , did he really get that injury prone label off that one year? Like right after he went back to 70+
Anybody over the age of 13 knew that. Reddit just likes to karma farm you’re good bro
without the landing zone rule change, I think that would have happened.
His shot is beautiful, but, if someone’s closing and there’s no landing zone, that super-efficient little hop doesn’t give him a chance to adjust his landing
Monta was a main part of the only decent Warriors teams they had in decades and they traded him after he had his best season.
Not just that, but the Lee/Ellis 2012 Warriors were a just barely not .500 team and Steph spent most of that season injured on top of it. After the trade, the Warriors went like 6-25 to finish 20 games under .500.
It felt like the Warriors got rid of their one decent player in forever, for a guy who couldn’t stay on the court AND they got considerably worse after the trade too. Not to mention trading for a “washed” and injured Bogut.
Sometimes good moves, don’t look so good at the time. But to GSW fans, it felt like they had just traded their chances at being a playoff team.
its an interesting case of trading someone at their max value point in their career, and it worked out.
To be fair, part of the reason the Warriors went 6-25 (or whatever it was after the trade) was that they tanked pretty hard to keep the draft pick that became Harrison Barnes.
For sure, look it was definitely ALL intentional. But Warriors fans had spent, you know like 40 years with literally like 2 or 3 playoff team to show for it.
Still kinda weird considering Ellis was clearly a player that couldn’t take a team anywhere by design. Too big of an ego to skill discrepancy. Mediocre defender, inefficient on offense(not a big deal in 2011 yet) and way too ball dominant.
So even if Curry wasn’t it, there was at least the potential unlike with Ellis.
Ya I feel like the league didn’t really know his archetype was on the way out yet back then, right?
Nah. He ran a 2 man PNR with dirk when he came to the mavericks and he was golden.
Just to be clear. There were some Warrior fans (like me!) who were very enthusiastic about the trade because we had long recognized that Monta was fools gold.
I didn’t think Bogut was going to end up being half as good as he ended up being and I was still very happy. Monta was clearly standing in Steph’s way.
Booed the shit out of Joe Lacob during Chris Mullin’s jersey retirement because he traded this man
And because he made Chris Mullin’s retirement night all about himself
He and Guber seemed like just another couple of arrogant VC/Hollywood dickheads at the time. I was reading a lot of analytical writers so thought the trade was actually brilliant, but I couldn’t blame the fans for unloading on them in that moment. I was listening in my car and almost had to pull over I was laughing so hard when Rick Barry was scolding the crowd. Top 5 Warriors Fan Moment for sure.
Me included. I was hoping it would’ve worked out with both of them on the team.
It made sense because Monta was popular and a consistent scorer and Steph kept rolling his ankles
The Warriors fanbase wanted both. The Broadcast crew constantly talked about their excellent chemistry and Monte’s efforts on defense. Monte was also the last surviving member of the “We believe” team(s) which fans loved. The thought of being a weird match up nightmare 7th or 8th seed for eternity was to many warriors fans an absolute win.
Also the traded Ellis for an injured Bogut meaning it was another tank year the fans wanted the Warriors to “go for it” and try and get into the 8th seed. To them at the time this was just another restart and sign of them giving up.
What they wanted was Monte Ellis, Steph Curry, Delon Wright, David Lee and Biedrins to compete they believed Biedrins was about to turn it around and be like his old self again, that randos on the bench would turn into great roleplayers. A lot of this was the broadcasting team constantly hyping everyone.
They wanted Ellis and Curry and no rebuild.
steph was injury prone and not too proven at the time. thats not exactly a reach without hindsight
I was more concerned they were trading an established first-option for a center who was clearly not that.
I’m from the Bay and everyone at school was pissed lol
True, it was controversial at the time
not i
That’s not how you use the word “contingency“ lol
That’s the same mindset that got him into the NBA. Only 5,000 players have been this delusional. Sometimes you gotta be delusional lmao.
Deadass. I really wish I could be delusional instead of pragmatic and realistic.
You also have to be a freak athlete lol
Not if you’re delusional you don’t
lol you just said something pragmatic and realistic. You’ll never make it
I used to be a pragmatist
“Those fancy words would get you kicked out of the league real quick, college boy”
/s
Idk it just feels like Monte had his ‘moment” a touch too late but he was a bucket kinda
Bob Ryan had the best quote ever about Monta saying “he was just good enough to keep both teams in the game”
Devastating.
Speed Kills YouTube montage went hard
Most people who have reached the pinnacle of their careers will tell you that exact thing. You need delusional confidence. When everyone else is doubting you have to be borderline irrational. Seen so many different famous people say that.
[deleted]
Monta Ellis is 6’3” I know plenty hoopers his height but with anxiety
You don’t have to say this shit out loud
The kind of offensive minded player monte was, you’re absolutely right
Emphasis on delusional. I’ve heard guys say life is hard with a 40million dollar contract!
Dwyane
Also Monta
OP managed to mess up both guys’ names.
Setph Curry
“Kevin Durant” – Nico
Monta ella had it awllllll
I forgot what that was from but that’s all I can think of when I hear his name
You got it from the last 2 seconds of this clip
The Basketball Jones and No Dunks used it a lot
No dunks there we go shoutout you
Holy fuck it was bothering me that I couldn’t remember
Change this face, be happy, enjoy it!
OP is a karma farming account, so I doubt they give a shit about accuracy as long as they get the karma
Not enough people realize how batshit the spelling of his name is
Ironically the reason I always nail that spelling first try is because of how utterly insane it is. Just an unforgettable typo of a name. Like “actually, it’s Micheal Jordan.”
I had to Google MJ. I’m too tired and you had me convinced that I’d never seen his names about that way even though it’s not spelled that way
obligatory

Jay-kwellen, Ay Ay ron…
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd7FixvoKBw
O’Shag Hennessy
Dwee Ah Nay, should be pronounced like that, like some traditional Senegalese name
Convinced it was a typo on the birth certificate and they just went with it
r/tragedeigh
Dean
Damn. I just learned this.
Wtf never noticed that
Dwanye Wadest
He did average 25/5/4 with 2 steals a game, the same year (09/10) Wade averaged 25⁄6.5⁄5 with 2 steals a game. Wade shot 47%, Ellis shot 45%. Like basic stats he wasn’t far off. Actual game play, he was.
Wade was also one of the better guard defenders in the league and Monta one of the worst
as a young dubs fan, Monta is what made me realize that having a high amount of steals per game often means you’re not a good defender. he was allllways trying to jump the passing lane…and yeah, he’d steal a good amount, but the other times his man would have an open lane to the basket.
Him and AI always gambled with jumping into the passing lanes for steals. They would always end up out of position when it didn’t work.
AI was a much better defender than Monta. AI got alot of his steals from the ball handler dribbling
one of the greatest defensive guards of all time and has the most shots blocked. monta is not close to dwade lol. acting like defense wasn’t a major factor in his chips. if dwade’s peak was more than a couple seasons he’d be in the same convo as kobe
Wade averaged 26.6 lol. How are you going to round down by 1.6 to make the numbers match up? And the TS% wasn’t even close. Monte was at 52% and Wade was at 56%. (Average was 54% in 2010).
He was also coming off the 09 season which at the time was crazy like now looking at what players put up because of inflation it doesn’t look that impressive but be was unanimously top 3 in the NBA after 09.
Well also monta led the league in minutes. Per 36 numbers highlight the difference between the two players more.
Wade lead the league in usage
My bad, I thought I did 26, my fat thumb hit the 5, you’re right. I didn’t double check the numbers
this sub was mostly breastfeeding when monta was playing.
He really can have it all
My empire of dirt
He have it all
I scrolled too far to find this.
MonteEllyhaveitall was one of the best memes in this sub
If I’m being charitable for the sake of having a conversation more than just “lul he’s stupid” - absolute peak Monte was a monster and he could be the best player on the floor any given day with hall of famers also on the court
on another note, Danny Granger would’ve been one of the best players of the 2010s if he could’ve stayed healthy. He’s been completely forgotten but he was truly sensational. If he and PG had been healthy, the Pacers smoke the Heat all day long
rant over
Hell i think people have somehow forgotten how incredible PG was even. First time i got to see the bucks play was against indy and they legit won by like 50 and george was just torching us silly. Him and granger could have been nasty
PG pre horrific injury felt like he was going to become the guy that would match LeBron. Honestly with how awful the injury was, I am shocked how he has stayed around the league and lots of it at a super high level.
That Indy team was cursed though. PG and Granger injuries, Lance falling off randomly, Hibbert getting amnesia and completely forgetting how to play the game of basketball. Tragic
Granger and Brandon Roy are some of my all time “if they stayed healthy…” guys.
BRoy is in a class of his own there. Dude was poised to be the best SG in the league for a time period without injuries.
Danny was the guy in that 08-09 season.
Thank you for giving Monte his respect.
Also love you side note syrup. Granger 🐐
just re checked his stats here as for 99% of this forum I haven’t seen him play in a while.
He’s an 18ppg career scorer in 12 years with a peak of 25ppg.
A decent 45%FG career although a bad 3pt shooter (31%) overall so the “inside outside” he mentions in the vid, eh.
He was also small and although he could get steals, not a great defender and certainly nothing on the level of Wade.
No AS selection or All-NBA.
Monte really have it all
To be honest I’d put myself in the same category as Henry Cavill. I mean at the end of the day the only thing he have that I don’t have is rugged good looks, fame and wealth. That’s it.
Plus he was Superman
The Mississippi Missile!
bullet*
Context matters.. if this was 2K
Monta >>>>>>>> D-Wade
One of the NASTIEST 2k players ever. My god. I dropped 60 on the boys regularly.
Played him and Lou Will in a high school tournament in MS and their teams eventually met in the championship game and it was absolutely electric offense back and forth. I remember both of them hit deep 3’s to force OT and double OT. Serving each other back and forth the whole game, they both had 45+ points iirc
Peak Monte was super talented
I also have less wins than Dwyane Wade, does that mean I’m on par with Monta Ellis?
Kinda the mindset you need to have to become a professional athlete
Monta Ella have it all
Monta Ellis have it all
The Monte Ellis have it all meme didn’t have enough legs.
It used to pump numbers on here 10 years ago
Also “I took da plej”
I will not allow any Monta slander in this thread. Dude was a bucket, full stop
Monta got it all… wrong
throwback to win this guy was taking 13 shots per game for the Pacers & scoring 13 points per game while doing it.
Research Monta Ellis. He’s a certified baller.
I agreed with him and still do. I understand that he isn’t not on the skill level per se, nor did he have the success that DWade had. Seriously though, have you seen him play? He has literally the same exact stat line of DRose during the 2011 season, just less assists and less wins. ME in his prime would drop 25-5-5 on a 36-46 team that should’ve has Curry as his sixth man when he was the alpha (only way that would’ve worked). He wasn’t as good of a perimeter shooter, effcient nor was he as good of a defender, but offensively ME wasn’t that differenr from Wade and them. ME worked best as the 2nd/3rd option on a team, but still in all he could play a good all around game of 1 on 1 basketball and team basketball too
It is absolutely insane how much athletes overestimate themselves. I got a traffic cone star in my local national league who said to my face he can guard 1-5
Hes talking about Dean Wade
Wade was a much better defender, more efficient, more athletic, more clutch, better scorer, better rebounder, better passer, stronger, a little faster. No monta, wins and chips are not the only differences
You misspelled BOTH of their names. Impressive.
https://youtu.be/xlrBN5lMhhg?si=4opgHOzLuF7Np6fE
Me too
I’d put myself in the same category as Tom Cruise. I mean at the end of the day the only thing he have that I don’t have is his looks, money, and fame.
Dwade won 611 regular season games and 105 playoff games.
Montana Ellis won 356 regular season games and 12 playoff games.
Winning is what counts the most.
This reminds me a little of Rudy LaRusso with the early 1960s Lakers except he was totally joking when he talked about teaming up to score 71 points in a NBA finals game. Elgin Baylor scored a record 61 and LaRusso got 10.
Its Monta and Dwyane motherfucker God damn fuck do a Wikipedia search first fuck
Other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?
Incredible moment in NBA history. Bro had half this city saying “Monta Ellis have it all” for weeks lmaoooo
I like this, he is right😃😃
With this logic, I am also close to Dwade 🥳🥳
If you take away his wins, money, fame and jersey, he’s just a guy
I fell the same.
MONTA ELLIS HAVE IT ALL
To me, he was born just a decade too early. He balled out on those dubs teams that didn’t really make any noise and still played well in mil and dallas. Realistically if it didn’t take him to get Bogut he would have probably got a ring or 2 in oakland if he would have just accepted it’s currys team now and the 6th man role but it is what it is he still got to run with some solid teams until the end
I’ll never make the comparison but put young Monta on those heat teams with shaq instead of wade and they maaaaaay have made some good runs, no ring though imo, but you never really know. If you’re young go watch a highlight tape of young monta before you hate lol he was nice
“Monte have it all” has lived in my head rent free since this video came out 😂
The “Monta Ellis have it all” is the mike drop.
Nobody has pointed out yet that he’s saying all of this to point out he’s the 2nd best SG in the league.
to all the idiots that can’t process what he’s saying: joker will not retire with 7 rings. But he’s likely easily one of the best players to ever play basketball, yet he might finish with just one ring.
your gm, your coach, your scouts, your fans, politics, girlfriends, family, injuries, anything could derail a players career, or could change the trajectory. The talent and skill a player has is often measured in accolades, and that’s just boring, because the player is often a small piece of a big big pie. Brady likely doesn’t even start on another team, and never becomes “the goat”. The talent will always be there, the circumstance, not so much.
having seen both play, do i think this guy is on the level of dwade? no. that’s ego, but the idea that him saying the rings don’t dictate whether or not they’re equals on the court is fine.
-230 career plus minus vs a +2827….
Ha ha ha ha
JFC the levels of delusion these guys have
Except for size, talent, work ethic, fame, money, wins, stats, and championships…
Me and Jordan are basically the same.
dude was a baller, used to watch him on the mavs and wish he was just 3-4 inches taller. seemed like a nice family guy too, id sit behind him and his wife and kids sometimes
He basically averaged over 20 points for damn near a full decade, he was a straight bucket. So I understand his argument.
It’s like saying I’m closer to d wade because I lived in Miami, that’s it.
Becoming a professional athlete requires unreasonable self belief.
