The league’s position is that betting by fans is okay and betting by players is not. That’s a basic, completely justifiable distinction. Both the league and players profit from those agreements.

Silver is a greedy bastard, like all the owners, and the best course to clean up the league’s relationship with betting platforms is no betting rules at all. Insider injury information is legal and throwing games is legal. You sleep with the devil, you get the devil’s babies and pay child support.
