He’s a mentality all star. And has all the physical tools. I was surprised after watching him at UNC that he wasn’t discussed in that upper echelon of picks. I didn’t see much on court that separated Boozer from him.
I keep seeing this, but he was the consensus fourth overall in a draft class that was considered very high tier for years. It’s not like he was disrespected as a prospect.
The top three have also showed exactly why they were highly touted. It’s really okay to wait like five years to do a draft revisit instead of tossing around superlatives after two weeks of Summer League

He absolutely was considered up there with the other 3 prospects. This was a 4 man draft ever since the NCAA season ended. Some scouts had him as better than boozer and some had him with the highest ceiling in the draft. You’re making up an argument that isn’t real. Caleb was as good of a prospect as the other 3.

Boozer played like a vet in summer league and it wouldn’t surprise me if he basically looks like that this whole season even against non summer league opponents. I could see Caleb struggling a bit to the start of the season but having random 35 point games or something and then starts to hit his stride a few months in where we see some consistency. Two excellent players with probably very different but still successful trajectories.
The biggest issue with Boozer was that we knew he’d be like this coming in, but we don’t know how much further he has to go.
Imo his upside is limited compared to the other top 4 picks.
But his floor is starting much higher than them as far as the next level is concerned. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I’m a Duke Fan and Boozer is going to be good but the one thing that this kid has that Boozer doesn’t have is that super athleticism not that every player needs it but Caleb is more raw not as polished as boozer is offensively. Defensively Caleb could be a DPOY candidate (excluding Wemby here they can’t give him the award every year can they ?)

Chicago got their guy
As a UNC fan, I’ve been screaming at a wall about how he’s going to be the best player in this draft. They were a different team when he was healthy - gave Duke one of their only two losses last year.
20ppg on damn near 60% shooting. 40-inch vert, explosive first step, elite second jump, amazing hands makes him a lob threat, can run the floor like a PG and run an offense through him, switch 1-5… he’s a freak.
His mid-range game is already great. He will absolutely clean up his three-ball (and hopefully his free throws.)
I don’t fuck with all the betting apps, but he’s a safe RotY pick in Chicago with a Pg like Giddey feeding him and Claxton holding down the paint with him.

I can see the comparisons. High-motor, two-way player, hyper-athletic fours.
But Caleb’s off-ball defense has a long way to go. He’d lose his guy fairly often at UNC. When he was locked in, it was a sight to behold, but could definitely get lost ball-watching from time to time.
I think they both operate way differently offensively though. Caleb likes to use his speed to beat his guy because other fours can’t keep up with him. He has a nice jab-step too. But he would rather take his guy off the first step, whereas KG was more of a back-to-the-basket maestro who preferred to operate at the elbow if he didn’t have the long middy open.
I think Caleb is more like a Chris Bosh type in that end than KG.
The key difference is KG was closer to a 5 and Caleb is closer to 3, in terms of positional dominance. Obviously Caleb can play the 4 but Wilson’s true specialty is the quickness and if bulks up too much he’ll lose that and not really have a unique advantage.
Pretty comfortably my favorite player to ever watch at UNC. He says all the right things and plays super hard.

Im sure you see the hype of the Fifa world cup, don’t discount that hometown energy. Something way cooler about a local player ending up in their own cities team that just can’t really be replicated no matter how good the player. Closest you get in the NBA when its not the case, is a team just sticking with a player their entire career like dirk/curry/duncan. Probably the only actual franchise i like is the spurs because they tend to do that, and its more likely just they happen to trip and fall into absurd players over and over.
