The draft that Lebron James went first overall is closer to the reign of Cleopatra than it is to the draft that Steph Curry was picked.

This completely discounts draft age, sure their drafts are 6 years apart but LeBron is only 3 and a half years older because Steph played 3 years in college and LeBron played 0. It’s not unreasonable to group them as the “old guard”

Lebron had his first All NBA First Team selection in 2006 and made it 8 times before Steph’s first in 2015. Lebron had been to the finals 5 times and had two rings when they first met in the finals in 2015.

Lebron has been a superstar for a decade by the time Curry came around. Lebron had an entire hall of fame worthy career before Curry was even on the radar. So it is funny they get lumped in together.

I mean yeah but I think Steph would feel a little more like a different generation than LeBron if Steph didn’t spend time in college. If he went straight from hs to the nba and was actually six years younger than LeBron, he’d feel like a different generation probably

People forget, before Curry, Lebron had a rivalry with Tim Duncan. They played against each other 3 times in the finals. The first time was two years before Curry was drafted (2007).

this would be the equivalent to curry lasting long enough that Devin booker and KAT are the other “old” guys in the league

Since I started watching the NBA in the ‘80s, I already think of Booker and Towns as older vets. They’re both going into year twelve. At that point, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Isiah Thomas only had a season and a half left in their careers. Michael Jordan was a year away from his second retirement. The idea that year twelve isn’t someone’s twilight is a pretty recent development.

I love that context on Bron’s not only longevity, but actually still being an impactful player at this point in his career.

Booker is going into Year 12. Very good player. Not that he’s a liability to have on a roster or anything, but he’s also already on the downside of his career.

LeBron is better NOW. It’s close (now), but still LeBron.

02-03-04-05 always felt like Brons cohort the next year the one and done rule gets instituted and it’s a different generation of player 2000 and 2001 was pretty irrelevant. Stoudimire, Wade, Melo, CP3 and Dwight Howard were his peer group these are the main group of guys
