SURELY, both parties need to be punished. One for offering the bribe and one for accepting it.

Kawhi and Balmer were undermining the salary cap of the NBA. They need to be held accountable. Kawhi obviously feels he should be the highest paid player but breaking the rules is not acceptable. Kawhi’s attitude always seems to be grumpy.

Contract voiding means shit. Only if he had real meaningful time left on it, which he does not (not counting the trade to the Raps, who in no way should have anything to do with any consequences of this whole saga) since the team is currently no longer contending. The only way to ensure any possible punishment serves as a real consequence, and as a deterrent to other teams/players trying to do the same thing in the future, would be to force him (or the clippers ownership) to repay/donate the entire value of his Clippers contract to something like the NBA Cares charity fund, or their programs for under privileged/developing countries like the Africa League.

Short of something like that, there will be little lasting impact or consequence to this whole thing.

Feels like ESPN is already “massaging” what they mean by significant, I don’t think even a full season of suspension is enough especially if it’s actually multiple circumvention that happened

Regardless of what happens it’s going to feel incredibly anti-climactic if/when he’s finally, officially a Raptor again even if he receives zero punishment and the trade goes through as reportedly agreed to. Assuming they do an introductory (or I guess re-introductory) press conference during the offseason, or even just wait until Media Day in September, there’s going to be a ton of questions about this that’ll just bum everyone out or no one will say anything about it and it’ll be this giant elephant in the room that no one wants to acknowledge.

Kawhi shouldn’t be punished. The Raptors and Lakers brought his camp’s demands to the league office in Summer 2019 and they thought nothing of it, said there’s nothing to punish.

Everything about this was in the CBA at the time and the league didn’t care.

Therefore it’s non-legally binding.
