Game 1 they were down by 1 with the ball for what would’ve been the “final possession” if it was 46 minutes long, totally different situation than what they had irl. (Inarguably worse position for the Knicks to have been in than they were at the end of Game 1 though.)

2 minutes left in Game 2 the Knicks were up 1 with the ball for what would’ve been the “final possession”, but again, it’s totally different in an end of game scenario. (A worse scenario for the Spurs than what they had irl in Game 2.)

Knicks had cut it to one with just over two minutes left in the massive comeback Game 4 so who knows what would’ve happened with it then being a final possessions situation. (Pretty much the same scenario as what happened irl there.)

And the Knicks were up by 3 but Spurs had the ball with just over 2 minutes left in Game 5. (Pretty much the exact same situation as irl.)

So all of their “comeback games” could’ve legit gone either way if they were two minutes shorter, just like the irl ones. This isn’t the point Sweeney thinks it is, even setting aside how stupid “analytic victories” are, with one situation being worse for the Knicks but still arguably favoring them/not being too unfavorable towards them, one being better, and two basically being the exact same if the games were two minutes shorter.

LOL, more often then not you wish the games were longer or went to overtime but he’s right maybe a couple of minutes earlier we could’ve had a better outcome. But the OKC series took everything to get out of, I still loved the run we had.

On the other hand he directly lost us a game with him telling Wemby to go switch out onto the perimeter to cover Brunson on the last inbound with 6 seconds left instead of staying near the rim.. That how OG got the miracle tip in in the first place, Wemby had to contest Brunson’s shot.

Such bad luck on that one, but it was a terrible defensive decision in the first place.

In Game 1 with 2 minutes left SA is up 95-94. Brunson hits a 3 and NY is up 97-94 with 1:52 left

In Game 2, NY is up 100-99 with 2 minutes left.

In Game 3, SA is up 108-104

In Game 4, with 2 minutes left Hart steals the ball and misses the layup. SA is up 104-103

In Game 5, with 2 minutes left NY is up 88-85.

Additionally I find it weird that no one talks about NY being up by 8 points with 6 minutes left in Game 1 only to be down by 1 point with 2 minutes left.

as a spurs fan i get what hes saying but imo closing out games u r supposed to win is not luck, its a skill and the old spurs knew how to do that. i think the knicks series was a good experience for the young core but they need more accountability and not chalk this up to bad luck

KG said that the Spurs are a very arrogant basketball team. They acted like that already won the finals after OKC like they would easily beat the Knicks as a formality. And that their arrogance shows in how they play, sloppy possessions, throwing up 3s early in the shot clock, like they knew they could mess around and win it because they were better despite not having won anything.

They didn’t have enough size at the forward position. The backup center stunk. They didn’t shoot particularly well in that series. They made crucial mistakes in crunch time, as young teams do. Mitch made coaching errors. Victor was inconsistent, and Fox was downright terrible. I’m a Spurs fan for 30 years, but this is why they lost.
