I have zero idea why the Mavs would do either unless they have more faith in Jovic’s health and improvement than what the stats show.

The buyout specifically is so weird. The only incentive would be if May is desperate to get Nemby on the active roster or the Mavs have a deal aligned to get multiple players in another trade, because otherwise a buyout has no sense. He is an expiring, he is not stomping his feet to leave, he has a role and will have minutes. Unless it is one of the two, a buyout is just another “team that we like needs player, farm team provides player because reasons”.

I’d do Klay for Jovic straight up, if they threw in a couple seconds I’d drive him to Miami myself. He’s completely cooked, Jovic is a better player than Klay.

As someone who watched very little Heat basketball last year, why did Jovic regress so hard? Was he hurt or just bad?

I guess Miami might be ok with taking back Martin, but that would be 27M in total. While Martin is also at best a neutral contract, that would still require some compensation, but Miami’s pick situation is very dry. Maybe by involving Charlotte somehow who own the Mavs (top 2 protected) 2027 and the Miami 2027 top 14 pick (that otherwise conveys in 2028). This could be structured to make both the 2027 and 2029 FRP movable. Then again Miami isn’t going to spend that FRP on Klay. Maybe if Naji is put into the mix? But what would Charlotte be getting here? That Giannis trade was so weird. Could have just stayed with the Bucks given how Miami gutted themselves for the trade.

Or the Mavs buy out Klay and he  goes to Miami for the minimum. Could happen I guess.

Mavs roster is full, so if they get an interesting player for their TPE maybe. Wonder if Miami could grease a TPE deal to the Mavs, trusting this would lead to a Klay buyout, who would then sign with them. But I guess there are some tempering rules against stuff like that, right?
