Interesting. I thought it was well known that both Maker and Biyombo’s age controversies were debunked. Ibaka as well openly criticized claims against accused age manipulation, as he was a properly documented citizen since his birth to rather famous parents.
The only one who is up for debate is Ilyasova, as it was simply settled between the Turkish and Uzbek federations for his eligibility.
The Maker one has a ton of circumstantial evidence, don’t think it was ever “debunked.”
There are records and yearbook photos of him being a “freshman” in two different Australian high schools three years apart.
i mean i can only find evidence of one Australian school and his guardian says it wasn’t a high school year book. it all seems circumstantial to me. the most “concrete” is the passport which has the DOB listed by the NBA so…

It’s because there is/was a more loose documentation system in some countries about birth/age.
This is true of any player coming from a country with questionable documentation. There’s too much financial incentive not to do it, especially for the “agents” who help connect these kids. I mean, even kids born here are being held back a year on purpose to get an edge.
NIL is going to make it worse too, because now you don’t even have to be pro level to make money.
Huge in soccer too. Often high profile players and in some cases we’re talking entire national teams getting disqualified.
