Jeremy Lin spotted playing in the Philippines
Jeremy Lin playing against 70% of Warrior and Laker fans
That is hilariously true. Every Filipino I know is a Laker or Warriors fan.
15% Knicks Fans (New)
Real.
I became a lowkey Knicks fan because of this
Quoi?
I went to the NBA lockout game here in Manila jn 2011 wearing a Kings shirt and found exactly 1 fellow fan in a sea of 18,000 lakers and bulls shirts.
Well you dont get the hype and news smaller teams get in their hometowns in overseas news. So only bigger teams marketing make it overseas
And the occasional Spurs fan
Spurs fan since 2006. Started because i was gifted a Tim Duncan jersey from the fiesta tiange by my Unc lol.
Occassional? Spurs fans are one of the most loyal(if not) fanbase in the world.
I’m with the Suns for most of my life
During the 2000s, Free Tv only showed Finals games so most millenial Filipinos are either Lakers or Spurs fans.
Now that we have Harper we are gaining Filipino fan quick
They had that playoff series a few years ago and people were calling it “Phillipines Civil War”
Can confirm. Am statistic.
Nah dude it says he’s in San Antonio, they’re deffo Spurs fans
29.9% San Antonio fans and that one Nets fan wearing black shirt
I’m like the 5% of Filipino fans of Celtics 🤣😭
NBA champ & all around good guy
Kobe Bryant lookin’ up in disappointment
I see what you did there 😏
You mean looking down
ahahha
probably not
No
Por que no los dos?
Because his helicopter crashed into the earth and then his soul went deeper after that.
Weird ass comment. Lin has had a falling out with pretty much every team he’s played for - including those outside the NBA.
If everyone you meet is an asshole, you’re the asshole.
I just remembered this is r/nba and it’s irrational hateboner for Kobe lol
hating a rapist = irrational. you cannnot make this up lmao.
He was convicted of rape?
OJ wasn’t convicted of murder but we all know he did that shit lol
That’s not why you hate him and it’s fine to admit it. Just say it with your chest.
What are you even implying here
If I had to guess its the standard reddit sports idiot trump card of “you don’t like this player because he’s black,”
Ain’t no way your bitchass blocked me on my actual account, imagine replying to someone and then blocking them so I can’t reply. Real pussy move lmao.
Anyway, unlike you, I’m not a pos who excuses rape so I don’t need any more of a reason to hate the guy.
lol did you make a new account just to reply to them or is this a joke
nah I just have random accounts I don’t use lmao. It would be pretty funny if I did though, generational hatred. But nah you can see the account age on my profile.
Why don’t YOU say it with your chest? What are you implying. C’mon. Say it. Just say it with your chest.
Now I’m curious . What is he implying here?
Idk man I have a pretty consistent track record of hating rapists
Jeremy Lin opens up about how disrespectful Kobe Bryant was to him and when Lin confronted him about his bad body language & leadership style, Kobe went months without talking to him
The truth is Kobe hated Lin because he couldn’t control him and have him bow before his rapist knees
r/nbacirclejerk getting outjerked once again
And Lin was hated everywhere he went. Even in China. It can’t be that everyone is racist to him all the time, my guy.
What?! The Taiwanese dude is hated in China? No way!
It’s irrational to hate a rapist?
Race card
Wow I do not remember him being on that Raptors team
Mid-season trade and sparingly played. Still has more NBA Finals minutes than Carmelo.
Now thats just unfair. Carmelo never had the opportunity to play with mr threepeater Patrick McCaw

And actually might be smartest in the room. Those Harvard credentials ain’t a joke
Can’t believe we got a country where the average male height is 5’3” to be obsessed with basketball. Cruelty of American imperialism knows no bound.
A disadvantage globally for sure but hoopers locally can enjoy it and have moments like this.
A place where a 6’3 non shooter can thrive as an inside big
Dang I missed my calling
That California connection is also huge. I believe it has the largest Filipino population outside our country. That’s why 90% of NBA fans here are Laker fans.
The others are mostly Warriors/Curry fans.
Yeah the Filipino contingency in the bay is sizeable to say the least lmao
HK and China have a fuckton too. I don’t wanna talk about why.
I thought it was just because of Jordan Clarkson
there are a fuckton of filipinos in LA, i don’t think it’s more complicated than that. lakers have international appeal, the philippines loves basketball, and many people have friends and family in LA
As someone who grew up in the Philippines, LA games were typically the most accessible. With the time difference, the replays were always LA. Plus, I remember Kobe coming to the Philippines pretty frequently for an NBA player.
It’s mainly because of Kobe. He visits here a lot.
Not much we can do about it, soccer programs for the local communities are almost non-existent when I was growing up.
Thats true but it has more to do with the fact that basketball can br played almost everywhere, in any surface here. You can have a 4x5 area with poop and dirt in it, as long as you can put a bended metal rim, you can play it. And the fact that its highly social too. Also quite cheap. Goes well with PH setting
Soccer’s the same way. Could’ve been a better sport for Filipinos to excel at at the world stage (given it’s less height-dependent) if it had been given as much attention and budget as basketball does
Eh… Thailand and Indonesia are very crazy about football but are ranked in the 100th.
You are conflating sports as a leisure and a cultural things versus competition.
It has attention and budget because it’s part of the Filipino culture. The same way as Thai and Indo on football. There’s demand, so businesses can get ROIs. The Filipino government isnt giving budget and sh-t to Filipino sports, and that includes basketball. The national program is broken and sh-t because it’s run by private orgs.
> Soccer’s the same way
No it’s not. You cannot play football properly on a 4x5 area with lots of houses around. Not to mention, you can be clueless in basketball and still get a good exercise. This is why old men and uncles still play leisurely. You just run, get a rebound, and shoot wildly. It’s also literally fine to just stand and let the others play when you’re tired.
Attention and budget isn’t what made basketball popular. The attention and budget followed it when it was already popular. It came when the Americans made our first mass education system since the Spanish efforts were so paltry in that regard and became super popular in the PE and YMCA programs during the colonial period. Pretty much the same reason volleyball is popular here. The Spanish were out of here before soccer was even widespread popular in Spain.
The first Spanish football club was formed in 1889 (by Brits). The first football club in the Philippines was in 1906 by non Americans for themselves basically. It just never had the sort of all social class accessibility basketball did right from the start here.
it just makes no sense baseball wasnt their sport instead
Lot of really really good pool players though, which you can do at most heights
No government support, no grassroots programs.
The Philippines used to be good in baseball, competitive in the little league worlds for a while. Won the inaugural Asian Baseball Classic. But there was also a scandal where PH cheated by using older players back in ‘92. It’s an interesting watch
Like many things Philippines, corruption and incompetence fuck up a good thing.
I mean, the US occupation of the country has been over since WW2. Maybe they just love the game. Not everything should be pursued in hopes of getting the bag.
> Not everything should be pursued in hopes of getting the bag
Clearly we haven’t colonized them enough if this is how they think
It’s how our politicians think tho 🤣
What do you call the military bases and exercises still held there
That’s called a bilateral agreement. The US vacated its bases in the Philippines in 1992. The Philippines then chose to have US forces back in the country. The bases there today are not US bases. They are Phillipine bases.
We don’t have US bases here. We’ve got some warehouses for US materiel on our own bases and facilities. There’s no permanently stationed forces here. There’s small units to handle the warehouses scattered around on fairly short rotations, and the visiting forces agreement.
The joint exercises are way different than an occupation, or even some place like Okinawa that’s gotta deal with them being around being fucking menaces all the time.
Not everything should be pursued in hopes of getting the bag.
The system clearly does not give this premise any favors.
The physical occupation maybe, but we still financially control much of the world’s resources and force them to cycle their resources through our banking and currency system - or get invaded with some made up excuse.
Libya got invaded when they tried to implement a gold standard for their oil, and recently Venezuela was invaded and the only thing that changed in the corrupt regime was to pass their oil revenue through the US system - we don’t even hide our only interest which is the financial occupation of other nation’s resources any more.
you ARE a San Miguel Beerman!
Still cracks me up that “Tender Juicy Hotdogs” was an actual PBA team name for a while.
we also had Mighty Meaties
Swift Mighty Meaties
tangina HAHAHA
Translation: “son of a bitch!”
Kids can tell!
Given the product they are advertising, the Titan Ultra Giant Risers are definitely one of the worst names.
In the 2000s there are teams for five different beverages: milk, gin, beer, soda, and an energy drink
Is there rumors of him playing for smb this season?
He looks like he’s having a ton of fun, look at the smile.
No scandals, class act and being a very humble man will do that to you. NBA Champion too.
lmao he’s a cool player but the glaze is unreal
Clean shot too, NBA players shoot the ball like it’s weightless.
Them mfers are shooting from a way better position than my 6’0 ass though. Wish I could experience shooting the ball as a 6’10 wingspan.
I wonder if kids who have a short growth burst end up with a better shot than a kid who grew over a longer period of time, all else being equal. Would the advantage be to the person whose height was more consistent or who was continuously adapting their shot as they went from 5’5 to 6’10 or whatever. Or does it not effect the development of their shot to a significant enough degree. Hmmm
That MilLin dollar smile
San Antonio National High School but no big ol women
No churros either
Linsanity!!!!
He’s barely aged

You got me curious so I looked it up, San Antonio National High School is in the Philippines.
There are probably 300 San Antonio National High Schools in the country with how commonly it’s used as a place’s name

It’s San Antonio, Quezon province
No Victoria’s Secret there either
Them big ol’ women snacking on dem churros

Kuya Jeremy!!
man linsanity was pure heat. there was that stretch where he dropped 38 on the lakers and you could feel the garden just waiting for every shot to go in 🔥
It was crazy enough for me to catch wind of it in France and started watching some NBA games again ; something I had not done since Jordan’s retirement :)
Ngl. When I read the title I immediately thought another temu version was created. Pretty sweet to see JLin in the Ph.
Gotta post this any time I see Philippine basketball brought up. Rafe Bartholomew, who used to write for Grantland (RIP), wrote a really fun history of basketball in the Philippines and the PBA. Highly recommend it for any basketball fans. I’m not even Filipino and I thought it was an incredible read.

He should get cornrows again.
Perfect jumpshot
he can definitely play for the Philippine tiger team
In Quezon no less
Okay
Jeremy Lin genuinely seems like such a great dude, im glad the community gives him so much love and respect bc he honestly deserves it
Not many players, let alone asian players balling and giving Kobe trouble.
Same fucking form
You know he’s in the Philippines for some Dota
Lin if your reading this. Go play Brunson. He’s down there too!!!
Lin should’ve at least experienced barefoot basketball for better Filipino Basketball immersion.
Looks about white
