The only thing NBA players are gonna learn from this is to show up to one photo shoot and retweet once a year. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue at hand.

It has NOTHING to do with making money outside of basketball. LeBron is going to make tons of money outside of basketball no matter where he goes.

The issue at hand in the Clippers situation is that there was coordination between team and sponsor to provide a player with a non-market rate deal that would be otherwise unjustifiable except in the case where it’s clearly not compensation for value as a sponsor and only justifiable as payment for basketball services.

LeBron will make millions of dollars off the court and it will be market-rate for the influencer and personality that he is. That is allowed in the CBA. Giving fake deals that aren’t justifiable financially except as a way to launder money from the team itself is absolutely not allowed in the CBA.

The question at hand in the outcome of the investigation is not ‘was there a violation’ it’s ‘what do the other owners want to do about it?’ and that’s not clear.

I think the answer is pretty easy and a handshake deal because LeBron is so close to retirement anyway it’s an easy move. You don’t pay him now for a no show contract with an affiliated company in trouble funded by you which is stupid brazen and obvious like with Kawhi but instead you wait till he retires and then give him ownership for very little money. LeBron has said he wanted to be an owner - you can argue that the deal makes sense from a business standpoint too because he adds value (same deals get done for celebrities too) and then he gets a position with the team paying salary moving forward- for instance Sixers are valued at 6.1 bn if you sold him 10% of the franchise for say 200M that’s like giving him 400M dollars that might be aggressive bu then you make him operating owner face moving foward too - might be aggressive be something in the 5% range but would make a lot of sense and also explain the timing here because that could be a lot more serious financially then a salary.
