[Highlight] The referee Simone Jelks explains mic’d up Kobe Bufkin when it is a foul. Including a replay of the play.
actually a really good explanation
I never understood how that works until this vid. She ref for the big show? She should!
Because it doesn’t work like this in the regular season. Shai does this like 10 times a game and gets the foul.
Any and every star ball handler. They maybe get called for a offenside foul 1 in 50 times. Maybe a no call another 5 times.
Not Steph for whatever reason
Yes, she is an nba ref already.
wait was he actually talkiing on the mic
I’ve seen enough, lock her in for the finals
Bill Kennedy smiles *it’s all coming together*
*shows teeth*
Both for officiating and camera time.
Because she’s got a keen eye and integrity, they won’t. With the finals, you unfortunately need refs who can play the political game so honest refs won’t sacrifice their morals to do what Silver wants.
Is she also known as “The Extender” or does she bet on games? If so, she’s a lock for the finals.
What I gotta do?
Stay in your lane.
Rare ref W
This is probably the most civil conversation between a player and a ref I’ve ever seen
I wonder why lol
I mean she is objectively the best ref in the league
Does +30 means teams score 30 over their baseline in that refs game? And is that supposed to be good?
Look at the guy’s flair lol /whoosh
the GOAT
There are multiple instances of male refs having civil conversations with players too, bruh. Don’t be that guy..
All women’s ref crew? As misogynistic as it is…
Wait a minute, you almost got me. I see your flair.
Bro trying anything to get his Magic City Night 🤣
We can’t stand for this altanta hawks psy op to get magic city night back on the table
SEND HER TO REF OKC
Ya and this will be 2 free throw SGA and technical free throw SGA.
I’ve always thought that Jelks is one of the better NBA refs, but she didn’t rate so high on the players survey.
I remember a play where Danny Green was called for a foul and he asked her about it and she took the time to explain how she saw it and it changed his mind to where he agreed with her.
That kind of interaction speaks volumes because it’s mutual respect and not two people trying to protect their own egos.
She probably didn’t rate high because she ain’t giving them these bs fouls
It’s because she’s a woman 100%.
They call this differently throughout the entire NBA season. Not sure what they expect players to do tbh. I prefer this stance obviously but they need to be consistent on it even with star players.
Ya, I prefer this interpretation of the rules but they don’t call it this way often
Yup, I bet 9 times out of 10 that play is a foul.
Would love to hear more of this
“Smh, I’d be broke if they gon be callin it like this” -SGA probably.
How witty
Jalen Brunson is the king of this now and they never call it
His full name is 2026 NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson
You forgot his middle name “King of New York, Captain Clutch”
In general think it’s a dumb rule for it to be an offensive foul. Once you have a guy best you should be curling in to cut off the defender and take control of the pace.
Just feels like they didn’t have the leeway to not call defensive fouls with that level of contact. So had to legislate it the other way to give a justification.
Now call it consistently this way throughout the season
This needs to be the norm. Mic up refs like they do in rugby!!
Genuine question about the rules here. If he would have gone in the air off line to get around a big contesting the shot and it went into the path of the player behind would that still not be a foul?
I was wondering the same thing. Her explanation makes it sound like offensive players have to drive in a straight line lol which is obviously ridiculous. If there had been another defender in front of him and he stepped to the right to get around them, and this same defender trucked him from behind, that would clearly be a defensive foul right? I guess that’s where the refs have to make a subjective call at game speed, which I do not envy at all.
Yeah I don’t agree with this call either. This should just be a no call imo. Contact was initiated by the offensive player but not in a reckless way.
Purely based on the logic the call should be the same, also going around a big shouldn’t be a problem if you’re actually going to the rim rather than stopping and leaning backwards
Respect
That was excellent. More of that.
Wild last name
Jelks
Good explanation.
Now we take you to the regular season where that’s a foul.
That’s a good ref right there
nice :D
Paul and Young feast on this
Hey turns out they can fire Foster and be fine, turns out reffing isn’t that hard and can and should be done at a higher level on the biggest stage
if this is SGA, its a foul
Asking what do you gotta do to get a foul tells you everything you need to know about the state of the league…now if he would’ve asked why wasn’t that a foul, then that’s legit. The refs explanation stands for either though.
“Steph is just so good at getting guys behind him.” “Put him in jail.” . . . Pause
Lots of hands on bumping and grinding going on here… Just saying…
Naaah stop teaching the youth the B.S Chris paul foul. Let it die with the old heads. 💀💀💀
