I don’t think Butler had a problem with Bam. He just wants money. It’s pretty consistent in all his drama.

Heat prioritized Bam (not saying without reason) and didn’t want to give Butler his extension (again, not entirely without reason); he throws a fit, has problems with management, then he leaves for GSW to “find his joy” (money).

I don’t think Butler ever had a problem with Bam, it’s just a recurring theme that he’s toxic about this stuff. The Heat situation was more a management beef than a Butler thinks Bam sucks thing.

I mean Bam is obviously the much better player than Herro. But anyone acting like they can’t understand why Heat players might come to resent Bam a bit, even if that isn’t the mature response, is lacking a bit of emotional intelligence in the moment.

The Heat have been absolutely terrible about keeping their trade talks quiet, it seems like just about every player has been pretty loudly put in trade talks over the year except for Bam. That doesn’t help players feel good about their position. For Herro they’ve put him in trade talks just about every season since the bubble.

Bam meanwhile, for all his drawbacks (and I would still have him as a top-30 player at least), is just flat out untouchable. Not even just untouchable the way no other player in the current era has ever been; you can see the Heat try and trade for Giannis and the thought that Bam could be included isn’t even mentioned. I’ve literally, literally, seen more cases for trading Jokic and/or SGA made than Bam (who is on a max contract despite probably being short of a max player) over the last couple of years.

Bam since 2020-21 has gone from nailed on DPOY candidate (and I still think it’s silly that he didn’t win for not playing enough games, then saw JJJ win playing less games the next season) to All-Defense 2nd team argument. His efficiency, going back to 2020-21, has dropped every single year. He gets the max contract, he can never be traded, he never gets criticised in the media, and everyone in the media plays along with Bam as an untouchable cornerstone. 

Again he’s obviously so much the better player than Herro, but Bam does get golden child treatment and it’s pretty obvious why players who are in constant trade rumours might resent that.

People haven’t been a fan of him for years and still aren’t. I bartend at a sports bar and almost everyone wants him traded.

I think a big issue is Bucks players know Herro is a snake who will be nice to your face and talk shit behind your back.

You can point to exactly one series: Boston round 1, 2024. Herro was completely alone and had to play maybe the best all around game of his career in game 2 (I think?) to barely get a victory. The context, of course, was that EVERYBODY was injured. Not that they were beating Boston anyway lol, but Herro definitely needed help that series.

Not just that but Bam is a big man, those will always be rare and thus higher value. I can go to any park and find you a 6’ guy who dribbles between the legs and chucks 3s from half court

Not just a defender too. He’s an offensive hub and will give you 20 on the other end. They absolutely paid the right guy.

Probably not he’s a inconsistent on the offensive end. He’s yet to average above 21 pts in the league. Hes a great defender but 50m plus for a defender is kinda wild

There’s been plenty of discourse over the last couple years around whether Bam is worth that kind of contract. I’ve seen a lot of Heat fans say they hoped he was gonna make a big leap on offense that never really came. Like he’s good, but he didn’t become a consistent offensive player the way they expected after the bubble run. The 83 point game has colored a lot of people’s perspectives since then, but I’d say the criticisms are still valid.

Pat and Spo seem pretty important

Makes more sense to max a two way guy than a guy who just scores. You can find players that can put up 15 a night everywhere in the league, finding one that can do 20 on elite defense on the other hand is hard. Very hard
