I know it can be “risky” drafting an “older” player, but I hope Yaxel thrives. Dude is just flat talented.

It is sometimes preferable to play college sports in a more supportive developmental environment than to spend several seasons as a benchwarmer in the NBa, followed by sporadic 20-minute appearances as a role player in your 3rd and 4th years. Both have basketball experience that carries over. Yaxel needs an adjustment period for the NBA game, but as you notice, stylistically, his fit is perfect for the NBA’s hybrid, do-it-all forward style (see Jalen Johnson).
Calling him a benchwarmer is an exaggeration. Moody has definitely logged more minutes of basketball over the last 3 years than Yax has since there are more nba games than college games.
He’s better in SL than every single one of our rookies that we’ve drafted since 2019.

He’s looked great but he’s the same age as some guys going into their 6th year in the league I’d hope he’s lighting up summer league

Why he so old? He musta got held back. I think he graduated high school when he was 21.
He didn’t play HS ball until senior year because he has under a 2.0 then he worked at a factory, his mom who had cancer got him recruited by a JC, he then played 3 years at a JC then three on college. He sold but has only played basketball for seven years
Also: he was rated as a low first round pick last year but with Michigan wanting him and the NIL he made millions of dollars more by staying in college another year, and in turn will have significantly higher earnings on his rookie contract because he was drafted much higher
